The same with Texas A&I Grads.   Alumni donations tanked and never came back.

My dad got two bachelor's from UT, his master's at A&I and his PhD at aggy.  When A&I was changed to aggy Kingsville, they wrote and offered to send him a new diploma with the name of the school updated.  He sent back a letter telling them hell no.  This occurred after he got his aggy PhD.

It's like SWTSU alumni changing their resume to Texas State.  I know a few SWTSU alumni who are proud of the old name, and refuse to associate with TxState.

Not really the same, IMO.

Dropping the SW was a good move bc Texas State sounds like a bigger deal than Directional U. Of course, I guess you can make the argument that replacing Texas Wesleyan with aggy law does the same, but I digress.

The name change had a pretty incredible positive impact on the school. I actually chaired a faculty hiring committee the year before the change and another one the year of the change.  The difference in the applicant pool (both quantity and quality) from one year to the next was ridiculous.

Alums who are still bitching about the name change are the same people who bitch about anything being changed.  (Except "Gulf of Mexico.")

My family members are not bitching at all.
Their degrees read Southwest Texas State, not Texas State…..so that’s what they use when talking about their own background.

Noooooooo! Billy Liucci is an independent journalist and a free-thinker. He’ll tell you the honest, unvarnished truth.

He’s not a booster and recruiter and marketer for Texas A&M. Perish the thought.

Tells you everything you need to know about their culture that they treat that same company as though they are a legitimate media outlet.

The name change helped the school more than it harmed.it for sure. They wouldn’t have the seventh largest enrollment in the state and achieved FBS status if they had retained the directional school name. My daughter just finished her Freshmen year and I had not been on the campus since the name change other than to attend some high school playoff games at Bobcat Stadium and I was floored how much it expanded.   And the town has a different vibe too.
