It's like SWTSU alumni changing their resume to Texas State.  I know a few SWTSU alumni who are proud of the old name, and refuse to associate with TxState.

Not really the same, IMO.

Dropping the SW was a good move bc Texas State sounds like a bigger deal than Directional U. Of course, I guess you can make the argument that replacing Texas Wesleyan with aggy law does the same, but I digress.

The name change had a pretty incredible positive impact on the school. I actually chaired a faculty hiring committee the year before the change and another one the year of the change.  The difference in the applicant pool (both quantity and quality) from one year to the next was ridiculous.

Alums who are still bitching about the name change are the same people who bitch about anything being changed.  (Except "Gulf of Mexico.")

I have to figure out a way to work for the Aggy athletic department. Do you think they would hire me on the spot if I wear an Aggy ring and say “Howdy”?

That didn’t age well and was just over a month ago. Ouch. I’m sure looch will come up with some new sunshine

My family members are not bitching at all.
Their degrees read Southwest Texas State, not Texas State…..so that’s what they use when talking about their own background.

Noooooooo! Billy Liucci is an independent journalist and a free-thinker. He’ll tell you the honest, unvarnished truth.

He’s not a booster and recruiter and marketer for Texas A&M. Perish the thought.

Tells you everything you need to know about their culture that they treat that same company as though they are a legitimate media outlet.

The name change helped the school more than it harmed.it for sure. They wouldn’t have the seventh largest enrollment in the state and achieved FBS status if they had retained the directional school name. My daughter just finished her Freshmen year and I had not been on the campus since the name change other than to attend some high school playoff games at Bobcat Stadium and I was floored how much it expanded.   And the town has a different vibe too.

I still call it fiesta Texas

Does San Marcos feel like old Austin?

"Does San Marcos feel like old Austin?"

More like the old East Germany. Beware the Stassi now.

In many ways it certainly does minus all the state government related stuff.  Hopkins St leading up to the campus has similarities to The Drag back in the day.   Nice recreation water source in the San Marcos River runs through the heart of town,

I know exactly 5 people that went to Easy T.  None are changing their diploma to aggy-commerce.

Son graduated from East Texas the year aggy took over. Grads were told their diploma could have aggy on it if they wanted. He told them fuck no.

Got two cousins that graduated from West Texas State University. The renaming drove the male one to really start supporting the Longhorns. Well, the name change plus 2 of his cousins graduating from Texas, me and my sister.

1.1 million to Texags for marketing might be aggie's athletic department best use of funds ever.    They push out marketing propaganda everyday rain or shine.    Lying to the rubes by Texags probably generates 10s of millions in donations.     Outstanding ROI.

My buddy dentist went to UT undergrad and Baylor Dental School in Dallas.  aggy bought that dental school just as he was graduating and slapped their name on his diploma to his shame.  He was pissed and had to do some creative framing/matting to cover that ignominy up.

Must of covered half of the diploma.  LOL.

Must have been before they changed conferences. There would be no way to cover the giant SEC emblem on his diploma.

I was wondering if a Championship Game team has ever been unranked the next season.

Well, and (likely) not even in a Regional...

I was wonder the other day how aggy got the #1 overall.  They never played okie, and okie was .5 games ahead in conference standings and a better overall record. Anybody know?  Honest question.
