From Wiki.  I forgot how crazy this story is:

At 11:30 p.m. on July 22, Edwards flagged down two Milwaukee police officers, Robert Rauth and Rolf Mueller, at the corner of North 25th Street. The officers noted Edwards had a handcuff attached to his wrist,[201][202] whereupon he explained to the officers that a "freak" had placed the handcuffs upon him and asked if the police could remove them. When the officers' handcuff keys failed to fit the brand of handcuffs, Edwards agreed to accompany the officers to the apartment where, Edwards stated, he had spent the previous five hours before escaping.[201]

When the officers and Edwards arrived at Apartment 213, Dahmer invited the trio inside and acknowledged he had indeed placed the handcuffs upon Edwards, although he offered no explanation as to why he had done so. At this point, Edwards divulged to the officers that Dahmer had also brandished a large knife upon him and that this had happened in the bedroom. Dahmer made no comment to this revelation, indicating to one of the officers, Mueller, that the key to the handcuffs was in his bedside dresser. As Mueller entered the bedroom, Dahmer attempted to pass Mueller to himself retrieve the key, whereupon the second officer present, Rauth, informed him to "back off".[203]

In the bedroom, Mueller noted there was indeed a large knife beneath the bed. He also saw an open drawer which, upon closer inspection, contained scores of Polaroid pictures‚ÄĒmany of which were of human bodies in various stages of dismemberment. Mueller noted the decor indicated they had been taken in the very apartment in which they were standing. Mueller walked into the living room to show them to his partner,[204] uttering the words, "These are for real."[203]

When Dahmer saw that Mueller was holding several of his Polaroids, he fought with the officers in an effort to resist arrest. The officers quickly overpowered him, cuffed his hands behind his back, and called a second squad car for backup. At this point, Mueller opened the refrigerator to reveal the freshly severed head of a black male on the bottom shelf.

Two cops get flagged down by a guy needing help and the rest is history.

Of course, there was this from one year prior -

On the afternoon of May 26, 1991, Dahmer encountered a 14-year-old Lao teenager named Konerak Sinthasomphone on Wisconsin Avenue. Unknown to Dahmer, Sinthasomphone was the younger brother of the boy whom he had molested in 1988.[156] He approached the youth with an offer of money to accompany him to his apartment to pose for Polaroid pictures. According to Dahmer, Sinthasomphone was initially reluctant to the proposal, before changing his mind and accompanying him to his apartment, where the youth posed for two pictures in his underwear before Dahmer drugged him into unconsciousness and performed oral sex on him.[157]

On this occasion, Dahmer drilled a single hole into Sinthasomphone's skull, through which he injected hydrochloric acid into the¬†frontal lobe.[157]¬†Before Sinthasomphone fell unconscious, Dahmer led the boy into his bedroom, where the body of 31-year-old Tony Hughes, whom Dahmer had killed three days earlier, lay naked on the floor.[158]¬†According to Dahmer, he "believed [that Sinthasomphone] saw this body", yet did not react to seeing the bloated corpse‚ÄĒlikely because of the effects of the sleeping pills he had ingested and the hydrochloric acid Dahmer had injected through his skull. Sinthasomphone soon became unconscious, whereupon Dahmer drank several beers while lying alongside him before leaving his apartment to drink at a bar, then purchase more alcohol.[159]

In the early morning hours of May 27, Dahmer returned toward his apartment to discover Sinthasomphone sitting naked on the corner of 25th and State, talking in Lao, with three distressed young women standing near him.[160][161] Dahmer approached the women and told them that Sinthasomphone (whom he referred to by the alias John Hmong)[162][163] was his friend, and attempted to lead him to his apartment by the arm. The three women dissuaded Dahmer, explaining they had phoned 9-1-1.[164]

Upon the arrival of two Milwaukee police officers, John Balcerzak and Joseph Gabrish,[165] Dahmer's demeanor relaxed: he told the officers that Sinthasomphone was his 19-year-old boyfriend; that he had drunk too much following a quarrel;[166] and that he frequently behaved in this manner when intoxicated. Dahmer added his lover had consumed Jack Daniel's whiskey that evening.

The three women were exasperated, and when one of the trio attempted to indicate to one of the officers‚ÄĒboth of whom had observed no injuries beyond a¬†scrape¬†to Sinthasomphone's knee and believed him to be intoxicated[167]‚ÄĒthat Sinthasomphone had blood upon his testicles, was bleeding from his rectum and that he had seemingly struggled against Dahmer's attempts to walk him to his apartment prior to their arrival,[n 7]¬†the officer harshly informed her to "butt out",[168]¬†"shut the hell up" and to not interfere.[171][172]

Shortly after the arrival of the Milwaukee police officers, three members of the¬†Milwaukee Fire Department¬†arrived at the scene. These individuals also examined Sinthasomphone for injuries and provided a yellow blanket for the police officers to cover Sinthasomphone. One of the three believed Sinthasomphone needed treatment, but the police officers directed the fire department personnel to leave.[173][170]¬†Shortly thereafter, officer Richard Porubcan arrived at the scene.[n 8]¬†He and Gabrish‚ÄĒfollowed by Balcerzak‚ÄĒescorted Dahmer and Sinthasomphone to Dahmer's apartment as Dahmer repeatedly commented on the general crime in the neighborhood and of his appreciation of the police.[174]¬†Inside his apartment and in an effort to verify his claim that he and Sinthasomphone were lovers, Dahmer showed the officers the two semi-nude Polaroid pictures he had taken of the youth the previous evening. Though Balcerzak said he smelled nothing unusual, Gabrish later stated he noted a strange scent reminiscent of excrement inside the apartment.[175]¬†This odor emanated from the¬†decomposing¬†body of Hughes.[176][177]¬†Dahmer stated that to investigate this odor, one officer simply "peeked his head around the bedroom but really didn't take a good look." The officers then left, with a departing remark that Dahmer "take good care" of Sinthasomphone.[178]¬†This incident was listed by the officers as a "domestic dispute."[168][n 9]

From Balcerzak's wikipedia

Quote

In the aftermath of Dahmer's arrest, an audiotape of Balcerzak and Gabrish making homophobic statements to their dispatcher and cracking jokes about having reunited the "lovers" caused heavy criticism. They were fired while Porubcan was put on job probation for one year.[20][21][4][3][5] By failing to check Dahmer's identification, the officers didn't learn that he was a sex offender with a 1988 child molestation conviction where the victim was Sinthasomphone's older brother, who was 13 at the time.[5] Milwaukee later paid the boy's family a sum of $850,000 to settle a lawsuit over police handling of the situation.[22]

Both officers appealed their termination. Judge Robert J. Parins ruled in favor of the officers and they were reinstated in June 1994.[23][24]

Service as union official[edit]

In May 2005, Balcerzak was elected president of the Milwaukee Police Association, defeating Sebastian Raclaw by a vote of 521 to 453. As president, he was criticized for failing to protect officers from mandatory overtime and not supporting African-American officer Alfonzo Glover,[25] who was charged with homicide on 30 May 2006, and later committed suicide on the same day.[26] By June 2006, the union vice president had resigned because of disagreements with Balcerzak's "leadership style".[25] A petition to remove Balcerzak was filed and a recall election was held in August 2006. The results were 213 for a recall and 397 to retain him. At an October 9, 2009, trustee election, Balcerzak was not re-elected as a trustee and vacated his position as president on December 31, 2009.[27]

Can you imagine sharing a name with a serial killer?  Like the Seinfeld episode,  you have to eventually change your name.

Others to look out for:

Serial killer??  John Wayne has only been confirmed to have killed four people, and three of those were extras on a set, and two of those were because he was trying to prove that there was only the one live round in the rifle that killed the first extra.  Granted, it would have been more if John Ford had not managed to get the rifle out of his hands, but still, not exactly a serial killer.

Do all the people who developed cancer from the set of "The Conqueror" count?

i've always thought he was a different kind of killer...motivated by money, fraud, and eliminating competition/problems. not that that's any better...but i don't think he was as fucking grotesque as that list, or Edmund Kemper, Richard Ramirez, etc.

You are correct. He murdered for profit and to coverup other crimes. The "Murder Castle" was tabloid fiction. He was a repeat killer, but his kills don't really fall into the serial category.

Kinda tired of Netflix's serial killer porn - where the killer is star of the show.

Pretty good trailer though.

I enjoyed The Golden Glove for the reason that it depicted the ugliness of the killer about as dry and unromantic as possible to the point where the film itself feels filthy.  Would be cool to see Dahmer given the treatment as Fritz Honka was given in that film.

I distinctly remember my cousin making that joke in like 3rd grade.

Dahmer jokes were a whole genre right after he got caught (was in jr high). The other one I remember:

What’s Jeffrey Dahmer’s favorite song?

Legs

I can remember that shit but can’t remember where I put my keys five minutes ago.

Through four episodes. Definitely don't feel like they are glorifying him. He just comes across as the sad, little, pathetic loser he was.

Of course, he never seemed to have the bravado of many other serial killers who seemed to revel in thinking they were smarter than everyone else.

He's humanized not glorified. I'm liking what it's doing even if some of it makes me pretty uneasy. I feel pretty sharp that I recognized Michael Learned and Penelope Anne Miller. Couldn't quite place Molly Ringwald. Interesting cast.
