One of my friends had a work project that took her to Pittsburgh on a near-weekly basis for two years, so she had a standing reservation at the Marriott. Unfortunately, it's the official hotel of "Anthrocon." The hotel sent her an email and slipped a note under her door warning her about the attendees.

I think furry culture is as weird as the next guy, but if my "official hotel" was warning people about my presence and I'm not breaking any rules or being a nuisance, I'd be fucking pissed. Let people do what they fucking like.

Life is too short, the older you get and further you get away from college, for a game played by 18-22 year olds, that you have no control over, ruin your life.

Yep. But it took me a while -- as it probably takes many, or most, of us -- to get to a place where I wasn't bummed for at least a few hours by an especially painful or gut-wrenching loss. Like the 2015 Okie State game, which was not just a loss, but a reminder of how stupid and unfair life can be. Sometimes you just don't need the reminder, and that's what these games can do because we get a bit invested in them. The emotion makes them both more entertaining and disheartening.

At the same time, there are so many glorious things about sports. The willingness to give in to a tear or two, or a visceral bellow of triumph, also makes them more fun, both on and off the field. Young people are so much more able to give in to their emotions that it's a life-affirming thing for me to watch, for instance, the video most of us saw from the other day. And it's our team, so naturally we feel something extra. Love watching the expressions on the faces around Landwehr as the guys start catching on to what's happening, and the explosion of unmitigated pride and elation from the brotherhood never gets old. It's also an affirmation of everyone else's triumphs and work, so it's basically a communal celebration of values.

Well, she was an actual nurse for a few years when I was real young, so do with that what you will.

If you give him permission, people might make this a running gag or something, and then we might not get the airport designation talk we really need.

Nah. Disney Adults are weird fucking people, man. I've never met one and thought "wow, what an interesting person with well developed hobbies and social skills. We should hang out more."

you have to distinguish between normal adults that like to go to disney (with or w/o kids) and disney adults who wear mouse ears when they fuck

Never took CHIEF Jr. to Disney, the closest we got was Universal Studios before the Rose Bowl, specifically to talk shit to all the folks in USC gear.

My wife likes to wear an Alf costume when I fuck her. Is that weird?

Or the "normal" adults who just go to Disneyland to experience riding the spinning-teacup ride while they're drunk.  Lulz.

Furry conventions have had issues before and tons of venues don’t allow furry events or charge significant fees to host them.

So my younger daughter just finished her first season of club volleyball. Some genius at the Northern
California Volleyball Association books a tournament at the San Jose Convention Center each season concurrently with Furrycon. I guess it must be the cheapest weekend you can book the venue since most others wouldn’t want to be exposed to it. Having a bunch of teen and pre-teen girls intentionally intermingling with furries makes sense in some world.

This year we were PM wave for the tournament on the first day. I was texting with a friend whose kid was playing AM wave and he was talking about how freaky Furrycon was. I laughed it off because it’s so absurd. But when we got there in the afternoon I understood what he meant. It’s somehow funny in theory, but when there are enough of those weird sweaty nerds in one place to easily overpower and kill you it becomes less entertaining.

My kid needed to find a bathroom when we left that first night at 11pm (fucking volleyball tournament scheduling). It gets creepier at night when they’re making “night clubs” in the halls and they’re at the point where they’re removing their heads and just loitering around.

We are in SoCal travel volleyball.  We actually heard about that one up there hahahahaha. That was January right

I don’t think a heads up is out of line. If someone has options and is traveling with kids, maybe they pick another hotel.

My wife and I went to NOLA for a long weekend once and stayed at a hotel on Canal Street because we liked the deal and we don’t mind the area.

Well, this particular weekend, that hotel and several others were hosting an annual event called “Nawty In N’Orleans” - a swingers convention. The thing included timed sessions in conference rooms discussing aspects of swinging. It was surreal. These people attending were not the lookers you’d be hoping for in that situation. A ton of olds, fatties, and hillbillies. Getting talked up by people in every elevator ride got old really quickly. Would have been nice to have had a heads up so we could have picked something in the garden district.

We were staying downtown in Houston once for an Astros game.  There was a pirate convention at the George R Brown that weekend.  Our hotel was full of people in Pirate costumes who spent most of the weekend gettingd wasted.  We had fun watching drunk pirates stumbling around.

Would you rather that hotels just refused them all together?  Because the PR of no heads up and other guests are pissed is worse than the PR of the furries are pissed.

Sounds like something a furry would post on a message board.

This hits close to home, literally. Winter is no joke, though.

Yeah Key West is the only other place I have ever considered living outside of Texas....Yes I have been all over the pacific northwest...its fun to visit......but I don't think I'm built for Montana Wyoming winters.

I really don’t even think this is a remotely close comparison. First, I’ve never wept after a Texas victory. And the older I get the less a loss ruins my weekend. Sure, some of the other stuff you’ve posted is accurate.

but a football victory is an achievement, or a failure. It’s not scripted, the outcomes aren’t known, there are spontaneous great plays and horrible ones, worth celebration and despair. Every outcome is different, every season is different, and there are consequences to a certain degree in the real world regarding your ability to recruit, how obnoxious your rivals will be for a 12 month period, etc. also it’s fleeting, only a few months a year.

Disney is the same. Maybe there’s some different parades and shows, but the rides are the same, until they build a new one. Galaxy’s Edge is cool, but it’s the same unless you catch a Kylo Ren sighting, etc.

I’ll put the 2005 rose bowl on in the background of my house, I’ll watch some old highlights sometime, and obviously I ingest a lot of college football content. I go to 4-5 games a year, so I invest financially. But it hardly rings the same to me as people who spent obscene percentages of their net worth going to the same theme park(s) multiple times a year and playing dress up and having it be their entire identity. Football ain’t mine.

it’s like the ren fair people who go every weekend and travel with it throughout the year, but with hopefully better hygiene and less poor.

Cry?  No....but 17 year old me was wanting to shoot Brian Polydixon as he scored like 10 touchdowns against us in 1997.....

Are the furries any different than the comicon people or a Halloween costume party?

As a friend put it to me once...comicon nerds can still be hot you have no clue with someone in an animal suit.

Did this guy also make you stop to use the bathroom for 15-20 minutes at every truck stop on road trips?

I'm actually a little old for Alf [the tv show, perverts], never got it at all, which is why, I guess, thinking of my wife in the least hot thing imaginable was funny. Clearly I fucked up.

I'm going to get into the general spirit of questioning the motives and character of everyone else on this thread by questioning your motives and general character, based on your description versus what I see on the link you gave. I mean, the whole point of this contest is to give us something outrageously beyond the staple fair foods. I'd fly into DFW or DAL on a charter full of furries to try this:
