It's called sexism.  Our country still has so much sexism that enough voters thought they'd rather have Donald Trump as President than a woman.

A presumably smart person on this message board voted for Gary What is Aleppo? Johnson over a woman who had been Secretary of State for 4 years because "she rode Bill's coattails to power" and he was "unconvinced that she was prepared to run the country". This is the kind of bullshit women have to overcome in the USA.

Seriously.  @TwiceHorn almost admits to the misogyny in his voting choices, without acknowledging it.  Just fully admit you don't think a woman can be President.

I don't think a woman can be president.  Well, let me clarify: I think there are plenty of women who could perform the job brilliantly; I don't think a woman can be ELECTED president in this country.  Because we are one retrograde-ass country.  We stepped out of our comfort zone ONE TIME, and elected a milquetoast black dude....and it completely and utterly broke us.  We are a shattered, unsalvageable wreck of seething hatred and idiocy because of that one step outside the "old white guy" zone.  We won't be stepping outside that zone again for decades, maybe a century.

Don’t be too hard on @TwiceHorn  I was there at one point too. Hell my wife seriously thought I might vote for Trump over Hillary knowing how much I despised both of the Clintons.

I had to tell her something like, “are you fucking kidding? Me? Vote for Trump?!?”

I held my nose and cast my irrelevant vote for HRC.

Anyone give any thought to if we’d be in any different a place right now had Hillary won?  Irrespective of the job she would have done in her 4 (or 8 ) years, trump would have done the rigged election thing in 2016, gotten his people all riled up. And there would be a woman potus on the heels of a black potus to further amplify the rage of the christofascists.

As a former sufferer of Hillary Derangement Syndrome myself, this is correct.  A whole bunch of us let 30 years of propaganda, which really got started because she had the audacity to sit on a committee to try to reform healthcare, taint our impression of her.  Thanks Rush/Fox/et al.
Well said. At worst she's a career do- gooder nerd that may have craved power, but also actually wanted to improve her country and help people.

This.  You think electing a milquetoast black dude broke us?  Imagine electing a milquetoast black dude and THEN following it with a woman.  We'd have been in full-on open warfare within 6 months.  Truly....it might have been even WORSE for us than electing Trump.  That's how badly electing a milquetoast black guy broke our collective brain.

Irrespective of the job she had done as President as opposed to Trump? No. What good would that do? That’s sort of the whole point. So what if the deplorables would’ve been pissed? They’re pissed now. In 2016 and 2020, better for them to be pissed than for Trump to be President. I have no doubt that the country would be in a better place if Hillary had won in 2016. (Fuck you, Comey.) I don’t care what would’ve happened with his followers had Trump lost in 2016. I saw what happened when he won.

Yeah I guess the Supreme Court would look much different, and have made different decisions. So that’s a big deal.

but he would have wailed about election fraud, run again in 2020, and we’d be right back here in 2023 with him talking about ww3 and civil war and his group in lockstep behind him.

we would be 1000X better off today if Hillary had been elected. there's no debate in that. also likely millions of people would still be alive, which I'm not convinced is necessarily a good thing overall

I admire Twice Horn's honesty. I also get the retroactive fuck you, and I can't say I didn't smile when I read it.

I gave Trump a bit of a chance when he won. Right off the bat you have:

  • The Russia conference at Trump Tower.
  • Kushner setting up back channels to Russia that will get around White House communications.
  • General Flynn, top security advisor, has ties to Ukraine/Russia.
  • The insane lie about the inauguration crowd.
  • His early press conferences where he reveals emphasizes his contempt for and determination to discredit the American press.
  • He gives his immediate family important White House positions.

That's just off the top of my head. All of it early on. I was stunned he got the nomination, I was horrified that he got enough votes to win, but I still tried to hope for the best.

I'm glad you've shaken off the residual GOP virus. A lot of smart people had to take the medicine and shiver their way through withdrawal to see that what they thought the GOP was about was illusory.

This vile man needs the humiliation of felony conviction and jail. He appears to be physically deteriorating right before our eyes. I don't want him to die of natural causes in his bed at home before he faces justice. But I have little say in those matters.

After Obama had fired Flynn, and had a private meeting with Dotard telling him that Flynn was bad news.  Of course, Trump the dumbshit said "I know better than you, Mr. just sat in the Oval Office for 8 years".

We'd be in a different place, definitely. SCOTUS was already mentioned, which is major for decades. But there's a MAJOR difference between what we had as a national attitude in 2016 and what we saw in 2020-today. A celebrity loses an election he is projected to lose? It's a footnote to history. They move on to the next guy.

But he wins and then cements grip over the party, becoming a sitting president calling election fraud and directs supporters that eventually attack the Capitol. And having four years of him riling people up and removing any sort of decorum to politics is unbelievably harmful.

It's like night and day over if she would have won.

I wasn't intending to be hard on him, just point out that any of us can be susceptible to propaganda. Especially when it's concealed well and we're slowly bombarded over years. You start to believe things that are bullshit because of the constant bombardment and a lack of spending much time reflecting on it. It underscores how important it is to constantly be evaluating and questioning your own beliefs and if there's any evidence or proof to support them. Unfortunately very few people do this and the vast majority live in a delusional fog created by bad actors.

And yet somehow there is a thread about Trump being indicted for fucking up the payoff to a porn star and stealing classified documents and trying to overturn a Presidential election.

I'm not sure where the thread is about Trump being indicted, but somehow all of that, particularly the latter two, seem far worse than anything Biden has done.

Biden is a better man than Trump.  The bar is not that high.  What does that have to do with Trumps administration vs Joe's? I did say Trump had this shit coming did i not?

You must love rampant unemployment, government bailouts to cover terrible import tariffs and trade wars, cabinet level corruption, needlessly separating and detaining immigrant children from their parents - oh and being absolutely opposed to democracy complete with an attempt to aid in a violent overthrow. Cool.

Would you care to offer any examples of how his administration did a better job with anything than the current one?  How did he do with rolling back executive orders mandating safety measures for the railroad industry for starters?

We know that's not what you "said", but it's the truth about the man.  Although, technically his current indictment is state-based, but the federal one is coming over summer.

I'll be the first to say I don't think Biden is doing the absolutely, amazing job that many on this thread think he's doing.  But he's doing a pretty good job, particularly given the fact that all that QE free money finally hitting peak circulation combined, supply chain choke points, with pent-up spending demand during Covid, all culminating at the same time was inevitably gonna lead to higher inflation and then higher interest rates.  Last I checked, automobile gasoline pricing was based on crude oil pricing, which is a global commodity beyond the control of any one head of state, by design.  His most master stroke is Ukraine, and it's the one least talked about, which makes it his master stroke.  and I think he's a solid guy.  I bundled and voted for him in 2020 and will do it again in a heartbeat if he's facing off against Trump in 2024.  Mostly what I'll do is spend primary season stoking Trump's RNC opponents to attack him as much as possible until some idiotic MAGA lover decides the only way for Trump to guarantee victory is for his leading primary opponent to get taken out by a lone gunman.

This is about his indictment so Trump will continue to grift off the arrest.  He'll be indicted again for the Georgia election fraud and then again for stealing and passing classified documents.  It'll all hang over him during the election cycle.  He won't be tried for any of them (possibly the current Manhattan case, at least initial trial proceedings).  A handful of folks around him will take plea deals, including up to one of his children.  Backed into the most serious corner of his life, he will begin to act out even more cravenly than ever before.  He will begin making outlandish claims of anticipated voter fraud in PA, WI, MI, GA, AZ, and a few other swing states.  This will begin to exhaust all but his most staunch supporters.  The non-stop campaigning, lying, and grifting will cause the tub of shit to die of natural causes in September or October of 2024.  At which, two new issues will arise for our political process:

1.  Does his VP ascend to the top of the ticket with great sympathy from the American people, and possibly win the general?  Does the RNC go back to the primary/nomination process real fast?  Does MAGA nation just vote for him anyway, assuming he's operating a government-in-exile, and still very much alive, with JFK Jr.?

2.  Does his base accept his death or violently lash out, wrongfully assuming it was the work of the Deep State to prevent his ascension back to the Oval?
