Cheerleaders in a parking lot? That’s a blasting.

It sounds like you are. And that you live under a rock. People participating in club or select sports in far away cities is common practice. Some of the Austin Banditos select baseball teams fly in players from New Jersey and Florida for tournaments. You can argue if that’s really necessary but the reality is people do stuff like that in all sports. Not sure why you think that means they deserve to be shot.

Yeah you idiots are out of your element here, no offense. My sister (no pics) did competitive cheerleading all through high school. Many of the girls cheer for a couple different teams/gyms, not just one. You have a main one and then another for more exposure or experience that isn’t as huge of a time commitment. Maybe just a few competitions, once a week (if that) practice. Your main gym or school you’re practicing for is a daily thing.

And saying these girls deserved to be shot at just for doing that is beyond insane.

@royivand @GoPokes83 were pretty clearly blaming the incident on the victims for being in that parking lot. Notice they’ve made no mention of the shooter or any condemnation of his actions, but had a lot to say about the victims here. To me thats the same as saying they deserved to be shot.

I haven’t read the whole thread yet and haven’t seen every response. I just saw how his opening post put 100% of the blame on the victims and thought that was very stupid, and saw that gopokes agreed with him. I’m not familiar with either poster or their views on issues. Granted it looks like they were both successful in drawing discussion away from the shooter and his weapon and onto something else totally irrelevant, which I imagine was roy’s initial goal.

Upon a full re-read I think @royiv was being sarcastic when he said the “shooter was justified in neutralizing the cheerleader that approached his car”. Definitely didn’t come across that way at first. I notice now also that his victim-blaming post wasn’t his first response in the thread, my bad. I do stand by my interpretation that it’s victim-blaming, and at least 4 other posters have expressed the same. Clearly it was a dumb thing on his part to bring up in that post.

If they're road tripping at night w/o adult supervision, that's a bad idea.

Fuck, this whole time I thought we were the cowboys in your tiresome analogy.

I let y’all decide who the cowboy is and who the indian is based on how you see it.

The key is to make sure we continue to let a bunch of boys and girls that never grew up keep playing pew! pew!

Men…y’all will drive 99 miles in the wrong direction before you turn around. Take every single goddamn thread and go off on wrong tangents for pages instead of simply asking “What did you mean in your comment because I took it to mean…is that what you meant?” But instead immediately launch into a verbal assault of equal dumbassery. Goddamn and y’all think women go off on tangents.

I would like to know more about the suspect in this awful case. What is his fucking deal? Yes cheer and gymnastics are a racket and yes it’s a ways to travel for young women but it could have been anyone at that HEB because the suspect is a fucking asshole like all the other fucking assholes who do this shit. At least these girls are out doing stuff instead of playing video games in their basement and 4chan Reddit incel bullshit.

I assume dude was tweeking out or waiting on some type of drug deal and maybe thought it was going bad?  Who knows, but definitely confirmed he’s a giant asshole for shooting a bunch of young girls.

Dang.  I literally pulled the same thing leaving the dentist office the other day.  Walked up what I thought was my car opened the door, hopped in and looked around and said to myself... "We don't have tan leather seats".  No one was in the vehicle.  It was same make, model, year, and color of my car.  Parked one slot closer to the door than my car.  Hopped out as soon as realized what was going on.  Made a glance at the dentist office to ensure no one was coming out to confront me and I hopped in my car and left.

Embarrassing and funny has hell and that's all it should have been for those girls.

That’s happened to me twice. I have 2015 Nissan and I guess the color/model are pretty popular. I use my fob and unlock as I’m walking towards what I thought was my car and hop in and same thing…I don’t have this…hopped right out. I guess the older models the fob/frequency or whatever works on the same model? Anyway as your post put so well that’s all that it should have been for those girls. Damn. Such a shit story in a week wrong door and wrong driveway leading to such terrible results.

Yup... happened to me at a church in west Austin... parked next to an SUV just like mine... went to drop off my son, walked back and opened the wrong car... couldn't figure out why there was a bunch of stuff in the passenger seat until I realized it was the wrong vehicle.  The area I was in is probably armed to the teeth.

Now as far as the debate that cannot seem to be settled here.... You anti-gun lunatics seem to have no concepts of Mao, Hitler, Castro, Chavez, et al. All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. There is a reason our founding fathers granted the 2nd amendment in order to protect the 1st. If you are so foolish as to believe the examples listed wouldn't happen here in the USA then by all means get on those trains and find out if compliance will save you.

With all of that said the thing that blows my mind is how little education or training you need (absolutely none) to go get your guns from the FFL. I have always and will continue to state that you should either have to have served in the armed forces and thus have received significant training or have to take 20+ hours of classes across the whole spectrum of firearms ownership (handling, maintenance, storage, range time, laws, etc). How is it you need to pass a driving test to get a drivers license yet only pass a background check to get a gun? That is provably and demonstrably insane.

The thing you need to understand is this is all by design they (the powers that should not be) want unhinged lunatics to have guns in order to whip people up into a fervor so that they can get a forfeiture of rights and gun confiscation going. Screech and yell about guns all you want just understand that you are doing the work of the government for them that same government that views you as slaves/useless eaters and want over 90% of us dead hence the climate histrionics even though they generate way more carbon than any of us.

So what kind of heat do you pack when you're at Thundercloud? I'm looking for suggestions since ordering sandwiches has become very scary. The gun discussion is one that I find difficult to talk about. Believe me when I say I understand the “sane” points people are making on both sides and I agree. I’m a good shot. Living with a family of experienced hunters and gun experts I learned how to respect and protect and fire a gun. I love shooting at targets. I was great from a distance shooting (be it prone, sitting, kneeling or standing—a rifle (never have fired a hand gun/pistol.) I do not hunt and have never shot anyone or any living thing. As we get older our eyesight isn’t what it was (I was 20/20 up until the last two years and never had to wear corrective shit to look at anything—this new reality sucks btw.)

My dad collected 113 Winchester rifles and a few Colts during his 62 years. When he died my mom sold them all at one time (2005—wtf they were an investment he never fired just cleaned and assumed if shit got heavy in the future he’d sell them off one at time—since my mom hated guns and the fact my dad like to collect them—when he died she sold them all at once (her right to do so but those were collectibles that he kept in a safe and cleaned every month to sell in the event things got rough)

I come from a family very responsible about guns. I don’t hate guns. I do have a problem with quite a few of the people who own them. If this were about cars, or drunk driving or any number of things that people should do or have it would be one thing—it’s about the ability to take the lives of multiple people at one time. I don’t expect anyone to agree with me at all. We do have laws on the books we don’t enforce, we have too many loopholes that are being exploited, and we have too many people concerned that eventually the government will transition to a North Korea or China or Russia and they will lose their rights and thus need to stick up to prevent it.

I am absolutely appalled and beyond heartbroken and disgusted with how people wield something so powerful with so little respect for the weapon or human life. I kept one gun of all the guns my dad collected. It wasn’t a Winchester. It was just a replica of one he used to show my how to clean a rifle. That was the only one I wanted because it was time spent and a memory with my dad who passed almost 18 years ago.

sorry for the rant. Was just thinking of that scene from the amazing show The West Wing (cut and pasted below) and how nothing will ever change. And I wish so much more could be done and understood so that assholes can’t go and continue to take multiple lives bc they are idiots. Fuck!

  • Sam Seaborn : It's not about personal freedom, and it certainly has nothing to do with public safety. It's just that some people like guns.

Ainsley Hayes : Yes, they do. But you know what's more insidious than that? Your gun control position doesn't have anything to do with public safety, and it's certainly not about personal freedom. It's about you don't like people who *do* like guns. You don't like the people. Think about that, the next time you make a joke about the South.

If he wasn't just trying to tweak people, yeah, you can mock him all you want about taking a weapon into a house of god, because I agree, that's fucking stupid. But if he's not doing something illegal and he can sleep at night, that's his prerogative, I guess. I couldn't fucking do it.

As for the rest, maybe it's easier for @Handcruser to come and point out the exact gun reform items he does support for me, since it appears I've potentially been hoodwinked.

Like a fart in the wind, our arms dealer never came back... Now do you understand his level of support for the NRA and actual real reform?

He has repeatedly gloated about the numbers of ARs he sells, how guns de-escalate conflict, being cute about his brunch gun, etc. He's totally crass about guns. You say he supports gun control, but when he's been pressed about what that means and what he's doing, he slinks away into the night. He's been pressed here on those issues multiple times and has never responded. I've asked him if he would ever consider pulling support from the NRA and he's never responded. You can't be for the things you articulated and also support the organization that is most diametrically opposed and actively blocking those measures.

I’ve posted what I would be for multiple times. You’re too stupid to find them and understand them.
