Yeah, none of that is reasonable. When it comes to yearly physicals or well checks, we should adhere to the same kind of de minimus policy that we do for labor or tariffs or any number of things. If you are going to the doctor for your yearly physical and something else briefly comes up, that's all in the game. If you go to the doctor for your yearly physical and you spend an extensive amount of time asking about other health issues that you would otherwise need to schedule separate appointments for and potentially with specialists, then it's probably fair for the insurance company to consider it more than just an annual physical.

It sucks, and insurance companies are leaches on our general wellbeing, but it is within the rules of the established system.

We need to change the rules of the system instead of complaining that the rules we think should exist aren't being followed.

Enshittification acceleration should be the term of the day.  It's not just enshittification, it's that it's happening fucking everywhere, faster and faster and beyond the human capacity to keep up.

Even my wife, who doesn't really pay attention to grocery prices, came home from a trip to HEB yesterday and asked me "what the fuck?"  She'd just bought a single bag of groceries, and spent over $100.  Granted, $42 of that was on....coffee.  See, we use keurig coffee pods (San Francisco Bay co. breakfast blend), because it's just the two of us, we don't need a whole pot.  A few months ago, a box of pods was $14.  Today, it's $21.   Every single thing she bought has noticeably gone up in price (but coffee was definitely a beating).  Prices on everything goes up.  Quantities go down.  Quality goes down.  Experience gets worse.

And fuck you, what are you gonna do about it?

It's so fucking demoralizing, and to be clear, we have the money, it doesn't matter to us whether a quick grocery run is $70 or $100.  But it sure as shit matters to a whole lot of people (and we can damned well remember when it would have mattered to us).  But shut up and take it, everyone.

My Manservant says that the foie gras prices are now unacceptable.   He is wrong. They are fine.  What is NOT fine is his subtle passive-aggressive display of unhappiness when advised that his Christmas bonus will be his continued employment.

You're a fucking asshole.  It's like you've never even heard of the jelly-of-the-month club, the PERFECT Christmas bonus.

And yeah....I don't shop for fois gras.  I do have some fresh boudin and some mollejas in the fridge, though.  I don't trust my manservant to make a proper selection in such important matters.

And speaking of coffee, I bought six of those giant Starbucks bags of whole beans at Sam’s last month.    The Winn-Dixie near me went out of business this summer, and in addition to scoring a bunch of 50% off wine I bought the last four large cans of Black Silk coffee at a 70% discount.  I don’t normally buy pre-ground, but there is no way on God’s green earth I can function without a large amount of coffee every day.

Tbh, you're better off with those reusable pods and grinding your own fresh. It's way better and way less plastic waste

Agreed.  But....and this is important...I'm really freaking lazy.  As a compromise, we buy the brand we buy because they aren't full plastic pods -- they are recyclable/compostable.

Costco coffee in the big brown can ftw. Who cares if you pour out half the pot every day. It’s so much cheaper than pods and you don’t throw away a billion little plastic cups a year.

Outlaw plastic bags and straws but allow k cups and plastic water bottles by the zillion? Makes perfect sense.

My local shop puts its Community Dark & Bold on a BOGO deal about every 4-6 weeks. I stock up enough to wait them out for the next sale. Normal price for a shitty 12 oz bag is now $10. I think it was $6 last year and I thought that was ridiculous.

You know you can make a half pot, right?

I do.  But I like to keep it easy.  I have two cups of coffee on a Saturday morning.  So, I make two individual cups.  It's nice.  It's easy.  Sit on the sofa, shoot the shit with the wife with a Premier League game on.  I am a fan of "easy."

Our morning ritual is a latte and a flat white out of our Bambino Plus - a $40 2lb bag of beans will last us damn near a month and it's waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy cheaper than Starbucks with a shorter wait. But its a whole thing and not just slapping a pod in and pressing a button. Our toddler loves to watch coffee get made while she has her first breakfast (she's on the hobbit meal schedule atm)

Community King Cake for us, six bags on Amazon went from $35 earlier this year to $54 last time we ordered.

good one.

My grown ass son is a coffee aficionado and and he makes all that shit on his own rig(s.)  It's a great hobby and ends up paying for itself if you're into the daily indulgence.

Just get one of those little basket filters that fit into the Keurig machine so you can make a single cup with grounds.

I am an 8th generation Texan with multiple pairs of dirty work boots who loves traveling to and spending time in European world capitals.

Don't try to understand me.  Just be in awe of my beautiful complexity.  And make sure I don't run outta k-cups, I get cranky when I miss my morning coffee.

Skip that and invest in a Mochamaster coffee maker and a decent conical grinder like a Baratza.  Yeah, it's an investment but it'll pay for itself in the savings from switching to whole beans.

I do have one of the little basket filters that fits in the machine -- I fill it with Community medium roast, which is my platonic ideal cup of coffee.  Dudes, I'm not a coffee snob and never will be.
