Seems damning:

What the public saw of Joe Biden’s functioning was concerning. What was going on in private was worse. In an exclusive full excerpt from their forthcoming book, “Original Sin,” Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson report on a fateful fund-raising event that revealed the extent of Biden’s decline, stunning George Clooney, Barack Obama, and others—and how the President and his advisers decided to conceal his condition and continue campaigning for reëlection. Read it here: https://www.newyorker.com/news/the-political-scene/how-joe-biden-handed-the-presidency-to-donald-trump

Seems foolish to not want to, at an appropriate time and with the right people and good intentions (in this case, The New Yorker reporting) to understand root cause analysis and what went wrong in a look back to try and understand to learn lessons. So as to not repeat the same mistakes or mistakes that rhyme.

Kinda weird you’d ask because it’s super valuable and super common to do post mortems on all sorts of projects, cases and deals, especially where the outcome was negative, and is related to feedback. The opposite seems foolish and emotional akin to “I don’t want to talk about it anymore, who cares, what’s it matter, fingers in ears, etc.”

I guess it’s unpopular but I think Kamala wins with a real chance and runway. She was asked to come in down 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth and then gets blamed for not striking out the side and hitting home runs at the same time because the managers left Biden in too long.

It’s unpopular because it’s not based in reality. She wasn’t even popular among her own party and a bunch of idiots thought saying she wouldn’t change anything about what Joe did was a negative. There’s no defeating a country insistent on being stupid.

She finished dead last in 2020 but was handed the nomination without a fight or interruption in Chicago. She decided to be a pop star and tour arenas and ask Americans to finger blast her asshole full of money,  than to do retail politics. But hey, an old guy sounded old on a televised debate in the summer nobody watched

this "but Biden" shit is hilarious & tiresome.  This all sounds like revisionist whiney loser talk.  "Wahhh, Biden was old & made it hard for us,  Waahhh!!!"  Yall really need to move on.  Dem leadership has been dysfunctional and wimpy for some time now.  They struggle keeping a reasonable & comprehensive story together, which leads to them getting run over each time.  Until someone with balls steps up and leads them, this will happen over and over again.

What amazes me is that a completely mentally incapacitated Joe Biden as President with a Democratic controlled Congress right now would be infinitely better for this country than what we have. It’s an amazing indictment on the bribery, incompetence, and lying that wafts thru the White House currently.

Do you think Biden’s candidacy could have survived another debate? What do you think Trump would have done if Biden had stayed in the race but refused another debate?

Biden was never going to win re-election, and the people who hid him from the public save for very short very controlled appearances for the last couple of years of his presidency did the world a huge disservice

For lying to yourself that this somehow justifies your support of the overthrow of the republic.

He, Incred! They're rounding up random foriegn-born people (not the white ones, of course) and shipping them to a hell hole in El Salvador. They're ambushing regular people with brave, armored, heavily-armed assault teams and saying they're all criminals with no evidence. Many of them merely publicly disagreed with US policy and the homeless famine inflicted by our brave ally Israel.

Dude, Brandon, tee-hee, is bankrupt. He was corrupt. We dodged a bullet!

Does your shit ever generate infections in your ear when they finally leave that dark canal to return to daylight? I mean, I know you like the taste and smell in there, but it seems to be unsanitary. Maybe wash those ears out before returning to your happy place. You don't use them in he outside world, but I don't want to see you unwell.

Keep an eye on the traitors! They must meet their just rewards!

There was the option of voting for a criminal, found guilty of 34 accounts of fraud, rape, admitted tax evasion, grabbing women by the pussy and being able to shoot somebody or the option of voting for someone that prosecuted criminals but was female and black.  Guess which option they chose?  Well the Democrats screwed it up you see, Biden.....no, they still voted for a legit criminal that ran on being able to commit crimes, was found guilty of committing crimes and then said he'd go after all the people that indicted or brought indictments against him.  Those were the options.  Rape and crime meant less than racism.  Anybody saying differently is trying to bury the lead and their past--you know, recreate reality.

Biden's camp and the democrats had to prop Biden up or the Republicans were going to 25th amendment his ass.  It's not complex.  The problem is that Biden then thought he was still the only hope and salvation even though his public gaffes were increasing.  I respect Biden and really wanted him to be the answer, but that debate against Trump even caught Trump off guard how mentally off Biden was.  There was no hiding it at that point, and he had to go but that left little time at that point for anybody to coalesce and win the public over on an unknown.  Even still, we knew Kamala wasn't corrupt and that should've been more than enough.   What we're fighting over is that a bunch of winey turds didn't show up for whatever reason, even though they all have reasons afterwards for not doing their basic due diligence in a Democracy.  The apathetic and all those that voted against their interests because of the likes of Joe Rogan bullshit fucked us over.

I don’t disagree, am glad he left the race, wish he would have dropped out much earlier, and don’t believe he should have stayed in the race. I was simply pointing out that a defective President would have been better than the shit show we’ve got. It’s ironic.

For the record, Republicans couldn't "25th Amendment" him, unless he decided to appoint a bunch of em as Cabinet secretaries.

They could have tried to impeach him.

The dems should have held him to his campaign promise of being one and done. As soon as it was clear he was not going to do that voluntarily they should have exposed him and forced the issue when a true primary was still feasible

I do not remember that campaign promise. He said some ambiguous shit like “I’m the bridge to the next generation” but I don’t think he ever said it would only be one term.

He never did explicitly say it. He just said things that led us all to assume that was the plan. Also just the fact that it was obviously such a stupid and bad idea to run for re-election that surely...

Yet another time assuming the people in charge have a clue turned out to wishful thinking on my part.

To be fair... It's likely that most of us also assumed the other guy was going to be impeached or indicted in a way that ensured he couldn't run again. Whoops.

Similarly, it probably could have been someone other than Trump.  The anti-incumbency was huge.  But the fact that he had his dumbass base locked in surely helped.

I don’t believe that. I think a true primary would have yielded someone who could have won Michigan Pennsylvania and Arizona (and probably Wisconsin). Do that and you keep the senate and maybe flip the house.

Of course we will never know. But we were definitely hoodwinked by Biden and his handlers for the last 18 months and that crippled any chance we had.

Yes no campaign promise. Just widespread leaking from the campaign that he won’t seek reelection.

From 2019:

Quote

According to four people who regularly talk to Biden, all of whom asked for anonymity to discuss internal campaign matters, it is virtually inconceivable that he will run for reelection in 2024, when he would be the first octogenarian president

Funny because sometime between when Trump had been charged with 86 felony counts and when he was convicted on 34 of them, polling suggested that were he to be convicted on even just one count, it would completely destroy his chances of winning. I forget the numbers but something like 40% of Trump supporters said they wouldn't vote for him if he were to become a convicted felon.

But then he was convicted. 34 times. And his poll numbers didn't really drop. He still had a huge lead over Biden. Absolutely nuts but cults are real and this one keeps electing the one person who definitely should not hold office.

Trump's base was already established. He left a mess with the pandemic that corps took advantage of by jacking up prices under the guise of supply chain issues, making matters worse. His last day in office he gave Venezuelans TPS status and told Rs not to support a border bill so he could run on those issues when he came back. Markets were high under Biden but the laymen isn't concerned about the market. Groceries and rent were still inflated. Uneducated people believed that tariffs were going to lower costs. Racists believed he was going to kick 15 million brown folks out of the country.

People here are locked in and understand how policy works. The unwashed masses weren't listening when economists were saying we were heading to inflation at the end of 2020. All they know is when they noticed the cost of goods went up Joe Biden was president and Fox News did a good job of laying it at their feet. So between the racists and the woefully uneducated there was no Dem candidate that was going to convince them not to vote for that asshole. As far as they were concerned the Dems WERE the problem.

We need to stop electing and allowing old men to be elected.  First, we watched Biden decline mentally and now we're watching the orange narcissistic idiot decline mentally.  You have to be at least 35 to be electerd president.  There need to be an upper age limit.

No one knows what candidate a real primary would have yielded

No one knows if a bipartisan immigration bill early in Biden’s term would have assuaged the Hispanic voters in border states who flipped to Trump

No one knows if an effective AG had been appointed if Trump could have even won the nomination.

Dems won and then brought a knife to a thermonuclear war

Man, try to imagine a world where a democratic president pulled all the shit Trump did between election day and January 6. Not just trying to stop the vote count on election day, and the whole organization of the riot thing, but also getting on the phones and demanding that the swing states he lost fabricate their vote tallies so that he could win. I mean, fuck. That actually happened. And ol' Merrick just sat on his hands FOR YEARS. Now flip the sides and imagine what that looks like. How soon would that democratic president be in prison?

Also, Biden was losing badly before the debate. He would have lost with or without debates.

I can tell you right now, that had Trump been indicted on everything on January 22, 2021, the outcome would have been the same.  Chutkan might have actually possibly gotten a verdict in the 1/6 case, but it would be on appeal and not a final conviction.  And thus subject to Trumpification.

And it would not have made a single solitary shit of difference.

If nothing else, treat him like the insane criminal he is, beginning January 20, 2021.

Again, what would republicans do? Probably daily press conferences on how they will go about prosecuting the president who tried to overthrow an election he lost and end democracy. Make the idea of him actually running for president again the most absurd thing in the world, which it was.
