No one would care about these pardons if the Democrats had not spent 4 years claiming Trump was a dictator and a threat to democracy only to, be a threat to democracy themselves.

You are 180 degrees from reality.

Yawn. The moronic American voter just re-elected a twice impeached convicted felon.

Sorry if I don't give a fuck who Joe Biden pardons on his way out the door.

Exactly. Twice impeached. And there was no politics involved at all. Trump was snooping around Ukraine when our government has done nothing wrong there. We never needed an investigation.

You do understand that impeachment is a wholly political process, right?

You bring up a good point. We didn’t need an investigation into what was going on behind the scenes in Ukraine.

Biden was an excellent president. Inflation was not his fault. The tensions with Russia were trumps fault. Under Biden most Americans were doing not great but we can’t expect great things when we have so many trump radicals trying to overthrow the government.

The oligarchs under Biden were much more preferable, I’ll agree with that. Why can’t we go back to when twitter and facebook were not oligarchs and they could censor speech I disagree with. Is that too much to ask?

Presidents often are saddled with problems that are from the previous administration or external forces, but they can still be judged on how well they handled the crisis. In my opinion, Biden deprioritized battling the inflation and contributed to it. The opposite argument could be that he was trying to save the economy from COVID but inflation, or the lack of dealing with it, is on his watch.

And I don't care about arguments that are, "but Trump..."

I give Biden A+ on many other areas especially in helping to show what a paper tiger Russia is. In the past, the Soviets could put a force almost anywhere in the world and perhaps win. Today they can't beat a much smaller country literally on their doorstep. They're a nobody.

Joe Biden was the right man for the moment in 2020 and was on track to easily be the best president of my lifetime for the first half of his term.

He may still be at least domestically, we're going to have to see what the Republicans do to his platform over the next couple of years and what the long term impact of the surviving pieces is (I think a surprising amount of the IRA is going to remain intact). Things pretty clearly came off the rails in 2023 though, and between that and his age he was absolutely the wrong man for the moment in 2024. His handling of the war in Gaza and lack of coherent immigration policy that ultimately led to a capitulation to Trumpist policy, both of which came to a head in the final year and change, is a stain on his legacy and on our country.

Do I think Democrats would have won if he stepped aside earlier? I honestly don't know. Post-COVID inflation has taken out an impressive volume of political incumbents. But had he announced his intention to step aside after a strong showing in the midterms the entire race would, or at least could have been reframed in a way Harris just never had a chance to accomplish given the hand she was dealt.

The combo of his age and the stresses of the presidency has obviously been rough on him. Hearing him speak now vs the 2020 election, the difference is stark. I wish him a happy and healthy retirement surrounded by family, but I fear we're going to be wondering what could have been for a long time.

Biden literally cured COVID

Passed Inflation Reduction Act, Chips and Science Act, bipartisan Infrastructure bill, first gun control bill in 53628153 years, and then pantsed and exposed Russia’s baby dick to the entire world. The effects of infrastructure law will be felt for much longer than any snap judgement on his legacy by armchair historians.

do you really believe that? what could he have done differently? anoint himself king? he was told he was going to lose if he ran again and he was also told Kamala could win. so he stepped aside for the good of the country. trump won (apparently?). I don't see how that is Biden's fault, seeing as he's only one vote.

That’s a dumbass graphic. That inflation is only at 2.9% totally ignores what occurred with inflation the entirety of Biden’s term, and his utter inability to communicate what he (the Fed) did to combat it and plans for his second term to continue to combat it.

Stock market and job market are strong. I strongly suspect inflation will be kept in check except for gas prices, which will be an ongoing Trump battle. I also expect unemployment to go up.

So what?  Trump is a buffoon. And, so was Biden. The constant comparison to Trump is tiring. I like neither of them.

and this is why many have a hard time taking you seriously. were you in a coma his first term? where do you think the inflation Biden was dealing with came from? there's way too much recency bias at play here but those shitting on Biden now will be singing his praises and yearning for these times in a couple of years.

In ordinary times, Joe Biden would go down as a very good president owing to the infrastructure act, the CHIPS Act, and the inflation-reduction act.  But these were not ordinary times.  Biden treated them as they they were ordinary times, but they weren't.

Joe Biden never had the first clue what it was going to take to defend the Republic.  So he nominated people like Merrick Garland.  And in so doing, Biden failed in his foremost job duty: to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

have you seen the median voter? They have mashed potatoes for brains.

Biden looks old as shit, and his brain processing looks older than that. He melted down in his only debate against that orange clown (which he shouldn’t have been subjected to if anyone close to him actually gave a shit about Joe Biden as a person).

I know why rampant inflation occurred. That is an entirely different argument, and one I’ll have with you. Here’s something we can likely agree on: it largely wasnt his fault.

however, that graphic showing some current inflation metric is overly simplistic and frankly intentionally hides the massive inflation on his watch. It doesn’t tell the story you want it to.

It doesn't hide anything.  Current inflation is 2.9%, down from a peak of 6.6% in 2022.  Anyone too stupid to understand "current" vs "peak" should have their vote taken away, but here we are.

It’s just saying what inflation is right fucking now as the bitch in chief takes over. Thats it. Is that confusing?

It conceals it from voters that don’t know any better.  Like 2.9% currently makes all the inflationary action of ‘22-‘23 nonexistent. It’s not like prices have come down from the peak.

WTF?  Nobody said prices were coming DOWN.  You seem a lot closer to the idiots who don't understand inflation than those who do.

Guess what . . . prices rise over time.  There was a day when you could order a house from Sears for $700 (roughly the mean annual salary) and have your local handyman build it for you.

I don’t point fingers, and I don’t compare presidencies, particularly one that includes fucking Trump. I mean if you want to point fingers, be my guest. Though I wouldn’t use inflation as some sort of relative strength for Biden because that would be monumentally stupid.

I don't think it's a Biden "strength".  I think inflation was bound to happen given the stimulus etc. during the pandemic.  I don't even blame Trump for that.  It happened worldwide.

I do credit Biden for at least some of our quicker recovery than most Western countries.

That said, I don't think it's important (except in a political vote-getting sense) to pander to the uniformed.  When people can't grasp the very simple concept of price inflation and consequences thereof, I just write them off.

Spot on.

I'll go further. Biden's presidency was an abject failure. So were Merrick Garland and Jack Smith.

His main objective should have been to stop Trump. By prosecuting Trump for Jan 6, the Mar-a-Lago security documents, and whatever else. I can't recall all the stuff the Jan 6 committee brought up.

Trump first. Everything else secondary.

Biden got it backwards.

Total system failure.

Good talk @jimmyjazz!

Sorry, forgot to respond.  I define uninformed (in this context) as failing to understand that inflation rate is a snapshot in time, and that price history is the net accumulation of inflation/deflation over a given time period.  (My words.)  The media and government officials could do a much better job of clarifying this.  Politicians have little to no incentive to do so.
