Fucking hell. Its felt like an eternity already.

It's one of those weeks where decades happen. But it's every goddamn week. I think we've lived a century in geopolitical time since the inauguration. The planet is also experiencing one of those centuries where epochs happen. Cool stuff, if we weren't experiencing it live, right? The historical AND fossil record are going to be very confusing to whoever unearths it.

How much of a simple fuck does someone have to be to have not thought this out any further than "he only bet on HIS TEAM WINNING"? Maybe think deep and consider why it's not ok to bet on your own team. On the days when has money on the Reds, he may not be managing with the team's long term interests in mind. "I have money on this so I'm going to leave Dibble out there for 3 innings even though he pitched yesterday and I'll likely need him tomorrow." Or on the days when he doesn't bet, it tips off the sort of shady people that would've been taking bets from a MLB manager. Or that he could've put himself in debt and been asked to alter a result to pay off that debt. Yes, our president is every bit this stupid. If he were a poster on the Surly baseball board, you'd face palm at reading his posts. Also, they've had this loaded up as a distraction for when he does something indefensible like side with the invading genocidal dictator over the democratic country being invaded. Holy shit this country sucks.

So, what you're saying then is ... Helobious is Trump?

I'm actually starting to believe Pete Davidson is right when he says that Trump can't read. If you watch the video yesterday where Trump receives the letter from King Charles, it would certainly appear that he had no idea what it said. Combine that with the EO performances, where an underling tells him what he's signing, and it doesn't look too good. Maybe he can't read, or maybe he just can't see well enough to read, or maybe it's dyslexia or something else, but something doesn't look right there.

He chooses not to wear glasses, at least in public.   I remember back in 2015-16 he was wearing a pair at a presser; hell, he's old---it's not that big of a deal.  Ever since he was elected, I don't recall see him ever wearing any.  He probably sees it as a sign of weakness or something, as vain as he is.

Here's a pic from the Daily Mail in 2017:

I have been able to obtain, at great personal expense and risk, a copy of this letter.  Whatever you do, please don't disclose this to anyone:

Yeah I've had my candidate lose the election lots of times, but since I turned 18 in 1983, I can't remember a single presidential election where the result didn't follow very closely with what the signs were showing us. Until this one. It was an utter shocker for me. Everything seemed to point to a Harris victory imho.

I'm not saying it was rigged ... but it sure feels like it was.

I will believe the election was fair and square when I see the percentage of bullet votes for each state.

Nice win for Putin, dividing USA and European powers over Ukraine. IMO, just like Brexit, how it ends up doesn't matter, the discussion itself creates diversion and long term rights in anti-Russian alliance.

And President Huff & Puff and his minions are following the script.

Trump signed an EO intending to make English the official language of the US. He’s also done the following:

Within hours of President Donald Trump’s inauguration, the new administration took down the Spanish-language version of the official White House website.

The site — currently https://www.whitehouse.gov/es/ — now gives users an “Error 404” message. It also included a “Go Home” button that directed viewers to a page featuring a video montage of Trump in his first term and on the campaign trail. The button was later updated to read “Go To Home Page

Wonder if Republicans will stop lying on Spanish speaking radio stations in South Texas.

I have to say that I am surprised and disappointed that Trump has ordered English as the official language of the USA. Certainly we need to rename our language to Americanish, it is completely disrespectful to the greatness of our county and ignores our independence from the small island country of England/Britain/UK.

Same here. It is a very petty thing. I took pride that we did not have one. The cost for a Spanish web page is nothing. Should have had it in every language. Oh, there are 18 of a group of islanders in the indian ocean, call Imma and get a new page up. Ask him to not scare them with river monster pictures.

To all you "Speak English!" assholes, Ma jebi tvoj pitchka mater. Je sam Americanac.

There is a possible positive outcome. If Europe becomes a more independent militarily it could still be a US ally when or if the US ever stabilizes but until then it can be a counter balance. And a stronger Europe as an ally makes the alliance only that much stronger. I’m becoming very much pro Europe in this fight. Distance and develop more capability and capacity and make the world more stable. Multilateralism with the US and China at the top isn’t working for the world right now.

We are way beyond saving democracy.... that's because we are witnessing human DEvolution in real time ... led by Team USA ... streaming on screens all over the world.

A 21st century crusade of idiocy and violence accelerating our species backward into the Sixth Extinction event:

-- either by massive climate destruction over a few centuries

-- or total nuclear annihilation in an afternoon.

We are far beyond the event horizon.

But a few people will survive. They'll be able to rebuild a beautiful new world, with the lessons learned from this fiasco as a base. It will be like Star Trek, with all races of humans living in harmony in a utopian meritocracy.

Eh, Cuban's still an asshole and greedhead.  He just looks better by comparison these days.

I do think, unlike many other tech bros, he has some inkling how fucking lucky he is to be where he is and that he isn't some ubermensch to whom the rules don't apply.

Cohen is a Cambridge graduate, after all, and as a classically educated Briton seems to have a pretty firm grip on the current dynamics in the world.

Oddly enough, it seems most educated Britons do.  I started reading the Slough House/Slow Horses novels, which began in 2010 with an alt-right villain. And have continued to criticize Trump and Brexit.  The author is, of course, an Oxonian.

And also been reading another set of British books, by a guy named Andy Maslen, this time mostly pulp ala Reacher and others, but the first book from 2015 centers around an alt-right coup.

Ubermensch?

My Yiddish is a little rusty but isn’t being a “mensch” considered positive?

Yeah, in sort of American-vernacular Yiddish.

I am referring to Nietzsche's Thus Spake Zarathustra, where the ubermensch is the secular human ideal.

Of course none of these fuckwads is that, but I think they believe themselves to be.

I guess I’m holding out hope that everything happening currently is like the final act of an action movie in which the protagonist (the United States and western democracy) has been captured and tortured by the madman villain plotting to destroy the world (Trump, MAGA, Putin, Elon, etc), and we are just waiting for the unlikely plot twist that allows goodness to prevail. God we really need that plot twist about now.

regardless of the statistical impossibility of 7 for 7 at the exact margin +1 to avoid scrutiny, at least the way it went down we didn't have a jan6 replay, this time with a scene of slaughter
