She may not be quite as smart as Vance, or maybe even as versed on foreign affairs, such that her ad libbed answers to interview questions aren't super-polished.  Then again, Vance pretty regularly inserts his foot in his mouth, deeply, while speaking extemporaneously.  Far more than Harris.

But that was a prepared speech that most politicians could give.

100% chance they saw “Transitioning” and immediately cut the funding without knowing what it actually was

well, yeah, when you let an algorithm decide rather than a person, this is what you get. they probably didn't even "look" at it - it was probably caught up in a search for charged terms and added to the list automatically. collateral damage be damned. oh well, this is what "we" voted for

Hey, its summer down this way. Hope you homies are well. I made it all the way to Saturday and so can you.

Where you be? (Asking for a friend who's looking to maybe relocate)

Ah, of course. Austin's not far and I can support the cause remotely.

Yep, it's old paradigm. Trumpists have been getting shredded by smart people for eight years to no effect.

Well when five interns are allowed to overhaul an entire government mistakes will be made.

Fuck that. Longhorns don't go where it is easy. we change the world everywhere we go. Start in your little corner of Texas. That is as good, if not better, than jumping into existing groups. Have them support you, provide guidance and tools.

This sentiment should be going everywhere with us. Not just to where it is easy.

well, when your slogan is "fuck your feelings", it's gonna be hard to sway some minds. in truth though, that's not even accurate. it's not fuck your feelings, but bow down to mine. but "bow down to my feelings" doesn't have the same ring to it

Not yet...too early.  There is a lot of gnashing of teeth about it, and not sure if intentional or just a sign of disarray but there is nothing talk is going to do right now except drag the opposition (Ds) down into the verbal mud with the administration.  Timing will be critical. There isn't any sense interrupting your enemy if you believe they are making mistakes, let those things really start to play out and then strike.  The Leopards thread has to get a lot busier and work its way up the curve before the time will be right.

This, although I’m not sure the time will ever be right. I do know that a fuck ton of people, myself included, are trying our best to just ignore all the nonsense and watch this place burn down, so I’m not even sure it would break through to Dems, let alone maga morons and people who don’t pay attention.

So, the party of small government is allowing a foreign entity access to personal, private citizen data?  Undoing courts, investigative bodies/civil defense and consumer protective agencies, citizens are hemorrhaging protections and yet voted to give it all away, while being warned democracy was at stake. Brutality is likely on the horizon.

This is moving fast as fuck while representatives are worried about their chances to win elections? They’re not undoing all this to risk it on elections. Those reps sitting on their hands agreeing with toadie and turnip at the detriment of their constituents are doing so hoping they get appointed, not elected.

I already reached out to my State AG. Sorry, peeople in Texas. You guys are fucked.

That being said, I wonder if we should have some of our Surly Law Dogs file lawsuits in various jurisdictions. Bet we could get a lot of people to sign onto that lawsuit.

This right here. Some of the more chilling things I've heard from the new oligarchs are when they acknowledge there will be "temporary hardship" or that things will be painful during their process of destroying everything before they rebuild it. It certainly doesn't sound like people that are willing to lose power in midterms next year or in 2028. They're also not seeing themselves in sharing those hardships or willing to give away their fortunes.

This is the best idea I've heard yet.  The only hope is to win the mid-terms so hard that Trump faces an obstructionist Congress in the second half of his term.

Then he'll just do whatever he wants by Executive Order anyway, so we're still turbo fucked.

But all of this needs to be documented.  The museums need to show future generations that people tried to stop this.

If the advice being given is to ignore the courts, elections aren’t a concern.

I think they're in a hurry because they know they'll probably lose at least one house of Congress in 2026.

My first reaction to this was to roll my eyes, even as a Buttigieg fan and supporter.

But his temperament and speaking ability is unmatched right now within the Democratic Party, and some sort of consistent appearance in front of a camera is probably a good idea. It won't come off as hysterical or insincere when Pete is explaining the damage already caused by Trump/Musk/GOP.  We need a voice of reason.

I think they're in a hurry for all sorts of reasons. This is perhaps one of them. If I remember correctly, you're someone that was thinking a second Trump term wouldn't be so bad. This isn't meant as an attack, but how do you feel now? Do you think there's some chance we somehow don't have elections in 2026 or 2028? I expected unbelievably awful from Trump 2 but it's been worse than I expected so far.

I figure it means that the IRS will publicly apologize to Trump for years of audits and hand him a refund for $1 billion or so in the Oval.

I will always believe the embrace of neoliberalism by Democrats is one of the main reasons we lost the working class.

Really? I thought it was it was because progressives sacrificed the well being of 2 generations of working class families for the benefit of affluent boomers in thriving cities, and used representational issues and language policing to acquire the moral license to do it.
