He tried over and over again last time only for his handlers to pull him back from the brink each time. It was such a damn miracle we made it out with a disaster.

Still cannot believe we decided to try this again.

Litmus test for when you know everything is going so great, it can run itself, with too many failsafe backup checks to fail. So of course, let’s elect the guy running on unraveling it all, or worse, not care at all.

At the cabinet meeting, Trump begrudgingly accepts — if only for a moment — that his tariffs and the ensuing trade war with China may in fact lead to supply chain snarls and higher costs for American consumers. Addressing fears that soon there will be empty shelves in stores, Trump says: “Well, maybe the children will have to have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, ya know? And maybe the two dolls will cost a couple of bucks more than they would normally.”

Makes sense.

I mean, you're a bad politician if you don't at least TRY to spin it that way.

Fair enough. Biden did a particularly bad job blaming inflation on Trump, even though it was global and probably neither of their fault.

Democrats need to blow this up

I've been told repeatedly around here to give up that dream. At this point I don't think they would blow up a video of Trump shooting someone on 5th Ave.

Once they announce a tariff deal was made with the Falkland Islands, the Dow was going to go up 5%. Very strange times.

The economy shrank? Shortage of goods? Companies going backrupt? Tesla's sales are collapsing worldwide?

Buy! Buy! Buy!

Stonks make no sense.

this is a great quote, but I’m not sure how many people will know about it because I would guess that most Trump fans are not reading the Wall Street Journal.

Fortunately, Fox News has zeroed in on the important part, the “boom like no other.”

Why would a surge of imports cause the economy to shrink?

The argument is that a temporary distortion in net exports (Exports - Imports) can skew the GDP calculation.  As I understand it, In this case, they're saying that the binge purchasing of imports before the tariffs kicked in skewed GDP and that things will re-balance to some extent in the coming months as those imports hit the consumption part of the equation.  (For the record, I am not an economist.)

Quote

The typical textbook treatment of GDP is the expenditure approach, where spending is categorized into the following buckets: personal consumption expenditures (C); gross private investment (I); government purchases (G); and net exports (X – M), composed of exports (X) and imports (M). Textbooks often capture this in one relatively simple equation:

GDP = C + I + G + ((X − M)).

Table 1: The Components of U.S. GDP
Expenditure variable Expenditure category Definition
C Personal consumption expenditures Household expenditures for durable and nondurable consumer goods and services
I Gross private investment Business expenditures for newly produced capital goods (machinery, equipment, tools, and buildings), household purchases of homes, and additions to inventories
G Government purchases Government expenditures for goods and services that the government consumes in providing public goods and for public capital that has a long lifetime
X Exports Goods or services that are produced domestically but sold abroad
M Imports Goods or services that are produced abroad but sold domestically
X − M Net exports Exports − Imports

Ok I didn't realize imports were negative economic activity...whatever that means.

So once we buy all that stuff it will even out. Weird but I got it.

You know, I did things the right way. People said I should save for my son's education, so I saved for my son's education. Started a 529 because people said it was the right way. I didn't choose anything too risky, just Index Funds because people said it was the right way. I put a little (very little) money in each month and put some of his birthday and Christmas money every year.

My son graduated high school last year with $20K in that 529. I know that's nothing to some of ya'll, but to me, considering that I started college with Jack Shit, being able to give my son that $20K is something I take great pride in.

And now, after 20 years of doing the right thing, when my son actually needs that money to pay for school, I'm worried Trump's fucking around and I'm going to be the one finding out.

Fuck every one of you that voted for him. Fuck you for not knowing better. Fuck you for not caring.
