i’ve already heard JD Vance “joke” that people who come to the US for the event better not stay too long or risk being deported (he has the savoir-faire of a baboon), and i have no doubt that trump will have his grubby, orange fingers all over the event. so i’m just here asking those who know better: what, and in how many ways, is trump going to do to absolutely ruin this most important global showcase?

Trump is gonna roll out the red carpet for the shitbags of the world to commit all kinds of atrocities with the freedom similar to diplomatic immunity to get away with unspeakable crimes against Americans and other visiting foreigners on US soil.

It will be a disgrace many times over, that much I know. My favorite sporting event will likely be ruined by some combination of shameful foreign diplomatic antics, human rights violations, and blatant unprecedented corruption. It's too infuriating to even try and imagine the ways it will be debased.

You'd have to be insane to come to a World Cup in a country that might just throw you in jail for no reason, especially if you've been visiting our newest adversaries (Canada and Mexico).

Also, what C-Man said about FIFA.   At least hundreds of people didn't die building the stadiums.

I predict the US will win it after a number of star players from other teams are either refused entry into the US, or “deported” to Sudan after their arrival

Wasn't the last World Cup in Russia?  Or was it the one prior?  Either way, dumb soccer fans will go anywhere consequences be damned.

It was in the lands of our great ally and benefactor Qatar.

It’d be great if UEFA and CONMEBOL just said screw you and went and had their own World Cup. Even just UEFA leaving the competition would totally FUBAR the whole thing.

The good thing I guess is when the US loses, Trump will claim that it’s rigged and give the victory to the good guys. First World Cup championship is in the bag.

With Latino music artists having to cancel sold out concerts because they can not get in the country, it seems highly likely we will have multiple stories of players denied entry. FIFA doesn't care. It's not like FIFA hasn't taken the tournament to more authoritarian countries before 2026.

Considering they’ve been held in Russia, Qatar and other shit holes with bad human rights records I wouldn’t think much but who knows.

Those regimes were trying to normalize themselves on the world stage and had every reason to behave. Dotard on the other hand is trying to establish his authoritarian credentials. I have no doubt whatsoever that in the months leading to the WC he'll be issuing threats including the Mexico and Central and South American countries that they won't be allowed in unless they pay for a wall and accept planes full of prisoners and detainees. He'll continue crowing about tarriffs too for world leaders he doesn't like. He'll of course never follow through and will lie about how he got them all to agree to his terms. It's his pattern. And its inevitable.

Wait until he figures out Folarin Balogun, Yunus Musah, and Ricardo Pepi are members of the roster.  He will simply throw the team under the bus and say DEI ruined it.

That’s true and undoubtedly he will “Trump” it up. With that said if you were willing to travel to qatar where between 400-500 migrant workers died building facilities maybe your moral compass isn’t necessarily pointing in right direction

Bluster, an attempt to claim the spotlight and credit if things go well, and a vanishing act and blame for others if they do not.  Trump 101.

I guarantee dotard will embarass the entire country on a grand scale. If he shows his puffy ass at a game the crowd will boo urns the shit out of him because he is a fucking joke to everyone who isnt part of the cult.

The best result would be, and this is from a screw TFG perspective, to have Mexico be in the final. The stream of consciousness racism from the cult and their orange freak show would hit a magnitude we have not yet seen. Yes the odds of that happening and slim to nil, but hoo boy if it did just forget whatever normal rules once existed about how to be an adult in this country.

There will be an ‘embarrassing’ issue with customs / immigration that gets reported and then forgotten.

Trump and Vance will go to an early stage game where the US has a chance to win. They’ll get booed.

The US won’t make it to the KO round. Trump will blame Biden and DEI and Democrats while shitting on soccer in a Truth and during an executive order signing about amputating thieves hands for stealing anything over $2 on their plane ride to the new private prisons we’ve set up in the Syrian desert.
And then we all forget the World Cup happened at all when Trump removes the Census and just assigns congressional seats based on Trump library donations.

Remember when he got the Qataris to give him a plane bribe, only to put the American public on the hook to upgrade for like a billion dollars with the full intention to personally take it when he ‘leaves’?

Man that feels so long ago.

Considering the US' first round games are in LA and Seattle, they'll be lucky if all they get is booed.

Sorry, but federal law requires countries to be called by their birth name.

I for one look forward to the matchup between Upper Volta and Zaire, followed by a scintillating tilt between Burma and Persia.

(yes, I realize some of those countries may not qualify, but we still might get to see the Austro-Hungarian Empire face off against the Orange Free State....)

Eritrea is a country of importance to me due to the proximity to Ethiopia and the senseless war between the two this century.

I have a really good friend that is from the country next to Chad. He's from Niger (Almost everyone says oh he's from Nigeria.) which was a former French colony. His story about the country's first railroad and the day it opened made me laugh so hard I cried. Niger is on my list of countries I want to see solely for the railroad debacle.

Both interesting places. Eritrea has a surprising amount of decent art deco and Italian Modernist colonial architecture, mostly in Asmara - as an architect with an interest in colonial design and local adaptations, I found it fascinating.

Unfortunately Niger is not the most welcoming place right now, due in no small part to our Russian/Wagner PMO "friends," so ya know, fuck the Russkies.

(yeah, yeah - take this shit to the Food & Travel board -->) 😆

So those countries are so shitty that people from there are t allowed to come here, but we’re trying to build concentration camps in some of them

What better way to throw up your hands after the courts tell you that you have to bring people sent there back.

Iran has qualified for the World Cup. If this is still in place next year, with additional qualified countries added to the list, this will be a real cluster.

He appears to have forgotten the Nordic countries and their shameful manipulation of the worldwide Herring market.
