last night i was trying to think how it would actually feel to wake up one morning to your government not only telling you 'hey guess what, we bombed the shit out of this enemy country overnight' but also 'oh and btw as you go about your day today be prepared for retaliation and rockets raining down on your neighborhood, just fyi!'

i mean i guess Israelis are used to it? i dunno. but that would be a total mindfuck here. so i guess i should be prepared lol 😝

In WWII weren't Brits encouraged to do normal stuff including tea time and visiting the pubs knowing that there could be bombings at any time? Somehow there's a lot more nobility in that than this bullshit though.

Are you though? What can you do about it? If you know this is overwhelming to you then maybe taking care of yourself is more important than a lot of macro things you can't control? I'm having this same discussion with my wife. Staying informed is one thing. Doomscrolling especially when you are aware what it does to you does nothing to help.

I think that would be an improvement to some of the shit we’ve been waking up to here lately

Likely they flew over Syria to get through Iraq. Neither gets much say in the matter.  Eastern Iraq apparently littered with missile debris.

I don't take Trump at his word, but credible journalists were covering that Witkoff and Iran's foreign minister were basically on the same page and a deal Trump would sign was all but imminent.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/u-s-nuclear-proposal-iran-israel-mulls-military-strikes/

Those news reports all have the perspective from the U.S. side. As I posted earlier, Iran has been highly incented to just stall, with sanctions scheduled to expire in a few months. There was unlikely any deal. That’s just typical Trump administration bullshit lying.

Just look at the situation rationally. The head of these negotiations, Witkoff, is a Jewish real estate lawyer, with NO diplomatic experience. I’m sure he was kicking ass and taking names.

Enjoy your life and don't feel guilty about it just because some fuckers are trying to burn it down. Not like you could do anything about it anyway.

I mean, that's kind of the hilarious part. You don't have to be very smart or experienced to realize, after putting more than 10 minutes of thought into it, that Obama's nuclear deal had very favorable terms. Really, a no-brainer, even for a real estate lawyer. Restoring it had potential to deliver Trump an enormous political win by getting to slap his gaudy Trump branding on essentially the same building and as an added bonus getting to own the libs by pointing out how Biden was unable to do the same (because the "adults" Biden put in charge were massive assholes who were part of the "working tirelessly for a ceasefire" lie).

So in this particular case I don't believe it's out of the question at all that Witkoff would have been able to more or less rebrand the Obama deal as a Trump deal and that he was on the cusp of doing exactly that until the bombs started falling on Tehran. And I don't think Witkoff's religion necessarily makes him an Israel hawk.

I’m not putting up an American flag outside my house this 4th of July.  Most people I see constantly celebrating the flag now are racists, sexists, homophobics.  I don’t want to be associated with them and what our flag symbolizes  now.

I'm just gonna put up my Louisiana Creole Heritage flag and call it a day.

This is very, very true.  All the "no more endless war!" and "why should we spend money supporting another military?" types will suddenly do a 180.  Because dominionism, end-times prophecies, and other stupidity.

None of the religious right believe in the Bible. But they do worship the dollar.

People chill. Trump has this totally under control. The adults are here and are in charge. America will project their power and nothing will escalate.

Trump has the art of the deal in his pocket. He will not let this escalate bc he is totally tough and shit. What? Iran deal. That was a bad deal!

The moral hazard of being an American. We all get the former, but never the latter. Some real perversions play out. Most of us can’t fathom what life in West Bank and Gaza, as just two examples, has looked like for average Palestinians for the last 40 years. Most of the posters here, myself included, would lose their minds if they were born into the OT.  The examples are a litany, and cover basically every continent. But we call that the Pax Americana y’all.

Not just the service members we have in Iraq and Syria but whatever covert assets we have in the region like spy planes and satellites, etc. We may not have had physical assets and personnel engaged in the attack but we were definitely involved

Ok, but I read the article you linked and…help me out here…but where is the discussion of being close to a deal and what sources are they citing that are not from Trump world?

It must be comforting to the rest of the world that Trump is steering the ship at one of most dangerously unstable times in history.

With all the shit that is going on domestically, I'm thinking that there is a chance that Trump will just essentially stay out of the way and not make things more dangerous.

Bibi and Volodymyr doing it on their own >>> Dotard making decisions.

The consensus about the proposal's terms were along these lines:

Quote

Nearly two weeks ago, Witkoff transmitted to Iran via Omani officials a proposal from the U.S. Two sources familiar with the details of that proposal told CBS News that the U.S. does not want Iran to develop any domestic enrichment of nuclear fuel for what it claims is a civilian program. To maintain that limited program, the two sources said Iran would have to procure the enriched nuclear fuel from outside the country, rather than enrich it on Iranian soil.

Here are more sources that put some meat on the bones

https://www.axios.com/2025/06/02/iran-nuclear-deal-proposal-enrich-uranium

Quote

Iran has consistently said it won't sign any deal that bans enrichment for civilian purposes — a red line that is irreconcilable with the U.S. public posture.

But the proposal described to Axios by two sources with direct knowledge — one of whom provided a point-by-point breakdown — would seem to offer a clearer path to a deal.

Quote

According to the proposal, the nuclear deal will focus on creating a regional enrichment consortium that meets several conditions:

  • Iran won't be allowed to develop domestic enrichment capabilities beyond those necessary for civilian purposes.
  • After signing the agreement, Iran will have to temporarily reduce its enrichment concentration to 3%. This period will be agreed upon in negotiations.
  • Iran's underground enrichment facilities will have to become "non-operational" for a period of time agreed by the parties.
  • The enrichment activity in Iran's above-ground facilities will temporarily be limited to the level needed for nuclear reactor fuel according to International Atomic Energy Agency guidelines.
  • According to the proposal, the agreement will establish "strong system for monitoring and verification" including immediate approval of the IAEA's additional protocol.
Quote

Baghaei said Tehran was still reviewing the U.S. proposal, and pushed back somewhat on the U.S. claim its offer was "acceptable" to Iran.

Quote

What's next: A sixth round of nuclear talks is expected to be scheduled in the coming days.

My read on this is that the US was willing to allow Iran to have the civilian enrichment so long as other conditions were followed. That sixth meeting between Witkoff and Iran is probably where those final details would have been ironed out. But of course Israel thinks imminent peace deal is the same thing as an imminent attack, so here we are.

Don't believe me? From the same article:

Spoiler
Quote

The new U.S. proposal is likely to alarm Netanyahu and his aides, who have been lobbying their U.S. counterparts hard to accept only the most restrictive possible deal with Iran.

  • President Trump cautioned Netanyahu not to do anything that would harm the negotiations, as Axios reported.
  • Netanyahu advocated military action against Iran's nuclear facilities and has been preparing to strike swiftly if the talks collapse.
  • U.S. officials are concerned he might even make his move without a green light from Trump.

https://www.rferl.org/a/iran-us-nuclear-talks-rome-enrichment-trump-witkoff/33422138.html

Quote

A new report this week by the US Defense Intelligence Agency said Iran “almost certainly is not producing nuclear weapons” but has “undertaken activities in recent years that better position it to produce them, if it chooses to do so.”

Iran is currently enriching uranium to 60 percent purity, which is close to weapons-grade levels, and has said that while it is willing to scale it back, it needs uranium enriched at 20 percent for its Tehran reactor.

Enjoyed your entire post. I think this part is particularly salient.  The techniques and methods we use to destabilize other regions and put in the puppets we want eventually come back home to roost.  I don't want anyone I know, and that includes all of you here, to suffer.  But it is coming and as an entity is completely deserved.

We voted for it.  We just wanted it to happen to others and not us, which makes us complicit and more than deserving of it happening to us.
