Not unexpected but I had to shake my head at TexAgs thread on this. On their page 1 and 2, they're debating how that this tragedy is a result of the politician victims voting against some recent democrat bills related to protecting abortion rights in MN. (I have zero idea if this is accurate or not.) And that the perp must be a deranged lib who is upset at their betrayal of Dem ideals.

Now on the last page, they're upset that libs wants to politicize this issue by pointing out that the perp is a MAGA Trump supporter.

They perfectly display why rational argument is dead. Those minds won't be changed.

It is partly right. One voted for the bill in the House. One voted against the bill in Senate. They must have had the same sources as @Laxtonto.

He went to two other hoses to murder in between the successful ones but they weren’t home. Had been stalking victims, planned for many months. Had 45 MS lawmaker targets. A cop tried to stop him before the last murder but he left.

Federales are taking the lead on this one, and they want him on the gurney in Terre Haute.

https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/us-attorney-details-federal-charges-against-vance-boelter/

Quote

MINNEAPOLIS — Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson and other federal law enforcement officials met Monday morning to announce more charges against Vance Boelter, who's accused of killing Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband.

Boelter is also accused of critically injuring State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, though both are expected to survive.

Thompson said Boelter is being charged in federal court with one count of stalking Rep. Hortman; one count of stalking Sen. Hoffman; two counts of murder through use of a firearm — punishable up to death — and two counts of firearms offenses for the shootings of the Hoffmans.

Thompson detailed the events of the night of the killings, revealing Boelter had visited two other lawmakers' homes, but fortunately, they were unharmed. He did not reveal their identities, but noted they lived in the area near where the other crimes took place.

“Boelter planned his attack carefully. He researched his victims and their families. He used the Internet and other tools to find their addresses and names, the names of the family members. He conducted surveillance of their homes,” Thompson said.

“He also prepared in other ways. He concealed himself as a police officer, outfitting his black SUV with police lights and a police license plate, wearing a black tactical vest and body armor, carrying a police flashlight and a handgun.

“Of course, he wore that hyper-realistic silicone mask, as seen on the surveillance videos. The video of his arrival and shooting of Senator Hoffman is truly chilling. Again, it's no exaggeration to say this is the stuff of nightmares.”

Earlier Monday morning, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said her office initially filed second-degree murder and attempted murder charges against Boelter, but prosecutors intended to elevate those charges to first-degree, which would carry a mandatory sentence of life without parole.

“I do want people to know that, given the scale of this investigation, the review of evidence will take time. I want to assure our community and all those who are grieving that we will seek justice and accountability for the victims of all these heinous crimes.”

Boelter is currently in custody and expected to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.

Yep. I would definitely want state charges to move forward in parallel.  All you need is some idiotic conspiracy theory that Trump likes on Truth and the feds will drop charges.

Two state level lawmakers were shot, one killed.  If anyone thinks, under any circumstances whatsoever that the State wouldn't demand their own pound of flesh, they're kidding themselves.  It's really not even worth discussing, because it's happening.

Yep, NBCNews has head line that state officials are brining first degree murder charges.

Yes, Hennepin County Attorneys Office will be seeking upgraded state charges. Murder 2 and attempted murder 2 were filed quickly so that arrest warrants could be issued. In Minnesota, murder 1 has to come from the grand jury.

Additional federal charges were filed this morning. Among them, 2 counts of stalking, 2 counts of attempted murder by firearm, and 2 counts murder by firearm, which are death penalty charges. First appearance in federal court will be happening at 1:30 PM.

Do you know where he's at?  He was booked into Hennepin Jail but appears to have been released (transferred).

....this is the important take.  State charges have to drive the bus, because Trump will 100% find some insane reason to tell DOJ to drop the charges (and the DOJ is the president's personal law firm now), or pardon him, or both.

It's also worth noting that the County Attorney filing state charges is about as politically liberal as any top prosecutor who has ever existed.  She's going to be hellbent on making sure that- even with a federal conviction- motive isn't sanitized.

Yeah, I don't understand the basis for federal charges at all. And cynical me, but the stench of "he's being treated very unfairly" from the cunt-in-chief will be wafting in at any time if the feds are allowed in.

Lots of people are saying he's a Democrat appointed by Weakling Walz who hated other Democrats.  I don't know, I haven't really looked into it.  But we hear he's being treated very unfairly, at levels of unfairness never seen before, and we're going to be looking into it very strongly.

Yep. I’ll be shocked if Trump doesn’t scuttle or overturn any federal charges. It’s so on brand and for him I don’t see how he could resist.

Since he can't pardon state crimes I think you're going to see the President of the United States spout nonstop lies that he's a leftist and he fully supports the death penalty for leftist terrorists. All of the evidence will show that he was a right-wing terrorist but facts don't matter anymore.

Deciphering why all this s happening is not that difficult. When you have a broken misanthrope telling overwrought, emotionally unwell people  who are prone to suggestibility that he’ll pay  the legal fees of those who physically attack his enemies, this is what you get.

Shouting it so the idiots in the back can here.  That's not an incidental thing; that's how stochastic terrorism is designed to work.

I always like to see how Fox News covers stuff like this...well, this story had been their headliner, and an article they had detailing the shooter was on the second row of featured articles as of just a few hours ago. Now, that story has completely vanished from the front page, in favor of articles like "Chick-fil-A fans 'shocked' by controversial cup change sparking customer outrage", "Former Team USA gymnast accuses Simone Biles of bullying her 'many times'", and "OneRepublic singer breaks ranks with celebrity elite over military parade". That's about as close to an admission Fox will give towards acknowledging the guy was a right-wing lunatic. In all the articles I've read on Fox News, there's still zero mention of the manifesto/hit list, even though the Acting U.S. Attorney confirmed that a hit list does exist and that it contained all Democrats long ago. There's also zero mention of the video clip of the conservative speech the suspect gave, zero mention of him being a registered Republican, and zero mention of his friend saying he was a Trump supporter. Of course, most people in the Fox News comment section are still calling him a Democrat and saying things like "lulz, Democrats killing their own".

Over on X, some are now going with the "this is a conspiracy!!!1" slant, so at least they finally figured out the guy is a right-winger.

That was woefully inadequate. She should have walked up to him, punched him as hard as she possibly could in his fucking face, and then stood over him as he crumpled to the floor, bleeding like a bitch, called him an evil son of a bitch, walked away, and dared him to press charges.
The time for words between these people is over. There is a time to punch a sonofabitch in the face, and this is one of those times. Someone who was close to the victims can, and should.

Here's the affidavit for the Complaint, which does not allege charges in quite the same way as an indictment, but the charges are stalking, using a firearm in a crime of violence, and using a firearm to commit/attempt murder, both under 18 USC 924.  https://www.msnbc.com/top-stories/latest/read-minnesota-shooting-vance-boelter-charges-full-text-pdf-rcna213316

For the firearm-to-commit/attempt murder charge, it would seem that the murder/attempt would have to be of the federal variety, which means "Within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States," which this ain't.

Not sure he was ever sane or normal. I was watching Jon Stewart last night and he recounted a story from back in 2019 or whenever where he and a handful of first responders were going around and meeting US senators and reps to help support potential legislation to get 9/11 first responders treatment for cancer and other toxic cleanup ailments they had.

Stewart said they met with Lee and the first responders took turns telling their stories. A police officer recounted his emotional experience of being in one of the towers that collapsed. When he was done telling story, Lee had this smile/grin on his face and said, “Man, I bet you’ve got a lot of stories.”

Stewart said they left the meeting and as soon as they walked out, they all looked at each other and said, “What the fuck was that?” He said it was the only meeting of many they had where they had that experience.

Needless to say, Stewart is no fan of Lee.
