Not to absolve the guy that did the video (I think he was my landlord or at least Lived in the garage apartment behind my house Soph yr at UT), but I also heard from a high school friend that lives in CenterPoint...she is on the ground and while they found a body, some of the rescuers told them the same thing.

Seems like an awful game of "telephone"

Fair. I doubt they floated when finding the dead was a part of the dynamic.

It never is until they’re the dead we’re looking for. I’ve been doing this for almost 14 years. I stepped away from the task force in ‘22 after 9 deployments; 7 with TF-2 and 2 with a TIFMAS backed EMTF to Moore and the panhandle. I was in Houston for 23 days during Harvey. I have coworkers that recall finding bodies in Wimberley by the smell and presence of flies. I don’t make my comments from a position of safety from behind a keyboard on dry land, but from a position of considerable experience. It’s

@Cajun any update on when the new from your son-in-law will be shared publicly? Is he still confident in his info?

I'll paraphrase his text to my daughter because I believe this has now been figured into the totals.  This came over at around 10:45am or so and he's in between Hunt and Camp Mystic -->

"We've found 2 kids and the other CID found 3 more.  Maybe one from Mystic but not sure.  She'd be the right age to be at the camp but no telling.  Finding some that weren't at the camp.  We're looking.  There's so much stacked up.  FEMA may be coming in with equipment...".

I'm gonna stop there.

Oh, I didnt mean to imply he did, just that the info was floating around to multiple people on the ground.

I hadn't heard these two details:

  • The storm was too loud for them to sleep (1 AM)
  • The power went out at 3AM prompting these two counselors to move smaller campers somewhere more safe, presumably with lanterns and flashlights

Can't help but wonder how and why the rest of the guardians hadn't taken advantage of these crucial hours.

A friend shared a text with me from the father of a still missing girl. The dad said that he had a very candid conversation with one of the LEO out there and the cop told him that didn't expect to find any survivors.

The two girls found in a tree phone call I received was from a friend who I’d been working with since about 7am. When he and I split up, he stayed there and waited for his brother (first responder). I relayed what he told me, via his brother. I asked him for confirmation, and he told me to hang tight. That’s when I posted.

The linked in the post that I copied went hand in hand with what I’d heard, yet not yet confirmed. I made the mistake of thinking that link was the confirmation needed.

Now, it’s untrue. I don’t know how a game of telephone can get that fucked up with as close as I was from the source, but it did. And I can’t apologize enough.

I’ll continue to post what I see first hand from here on out. Take it for what it’s worth. I guess I got too overwhelmed with some good news for the first time in three days.

No apologies needed.  You are doing real work more than 99% of Surly and 99.9999% of everyone else.  You heard good news, and after the past two days you did what everyone else did, which is why this story spread like wildfire.  We all wanted it to be true.  You good, fam.

One of my great-nephews is an Austin fireman/emt.

Some years ago he spent a harrowing time in the middle of the night with a colleague on the end of their truck’s ladder extended all the way out over Barton Creek fishing with grappling hooks the body of a female tubing enthusiast off the intake bypass grate, just above the swimming pool.
Nephew is the father of four kids.

The girl that survived 20 miles in the water dodging appliances and SUVs and ended up in a tree was 22 and strong.

I’ve been searching but can’t seem to find an answer. I’ve sifted through all the false reports. Are there any confirmed reports of them fining someone alive today?

Sadly, No.

If you have to search that hard, it's pretty obvious.

The main thing is the necessary aircraft they couldn’t bring in yesterday are coming in now and tomorrow. Something to do with weather and flight patterns and other things as to why they were not there earlier,

these are equipped with things even better than FLIR which is how it’s being described. So if there is someone to find and be rescued or sadly recovered they can get better eyes on them.

synthetic aperture radar using certain frequencies can detect human remains

not above top secret but certainly not openly discussed

the deployment of this level of technology to find these remains is verboten in a 'news' thread

I’m guessing weren’t not going to get the miracle we wanted.  Perhaps later when we hear more stories we’ll find that the miracles are in the kids saved by counselors.

So what the fuck was this?

The same shit he did two days ago where he said “look of the location of the dam that collapsed to the camp” when NO dam had collapsed and the pic he showed was a part of the camp that was untouched?

We need a crying reaction thing. I didn’t tell my cousins about this report bc I didn’t want to get the hopes of their two friends each missing a mystic camper up. I thought if it’s true it would not be campers from mystic,

as it stands right now neither girl my cousins’ friends are looking for has been found. It’s soul crushing.

Just found out three of the girls that died live in my neighborhood (Pemberton/Tarrytown). Another neighbor that is my older son's classmate lost their cousin  who is from Houston. There are green & white banners all up Harris blvd representing Camp Mystic's colors.

Just such a tragic loss of life. Feel so badly for all the families that have been impacted.

She was luckily found on that first morning. Unfortunately tomorrow morning will be the reaching of the 72hr/ 3day mark, survivability drops off after that. Most likely won't be made "official"  tomorrow, but rescue ops will soon be changing to recovery. Sucks. 😢

Heard from neighbor that has a young daughter who goes to school with a couple of them. His daughter is good friends with one of the girls who lost a sister.

We got our notifications from the school that they lost two and another two from our tennis/swim club. They are all being proactive with offering counseling.

hugs to all…💔

Can I ask why this guy doesn’t just get banned @immamac? He’s been spreading blatant misinformation about an ongoing catastrophe.

No idea.  I don't want to ask him either.

I just got back from NB HEB.  Grabbed two big ass Prime briskets and am going to get them on the smoke first thing in the morning and then take them over to his team's hotel in Boerne tomorrow night when they get back for the day.  Not sure what I'll hear, but I'm bracing for anything.

I just don't know how these guys deal with this stuff.  I'm damned near ready to end it when one of my dogs dies.  lI just don't see how.
