Doesn't Robert Plant live in Austin?

Plus he has experience with floods, and levees breaking.

He left Austin and moved back to England in 2014.

I’m pretty sure in one of the first few press conferences that the city manager said they had assets pre-positioned and the flood actually washed them away. If I remember right, there is a photo of one of the vehicles in that parking lot across from the Ingram dam.

Thank God for that. Kids that age are resilient, but speaking from personal experience with children who have had tragic loss in their life, they can hide it pretty well. I wish I could tell you how to talk to them about it, but I did a terrible job. If you’re in the DFW area you can PM me for some information on a really good counselor.

That’s awesome. We are in Austin, but lots of friends up there too.

It’s crazy. Specifically from my next door neighbor girl, the conversation went like, “we had water up to around our necks. I was thirsty, but we were singing songs. Can I play Roblox now?”. One of her (and our) good family friends died in the car with Dick Eastland. And they are sad about it, I think? Water off duck’s back outwardly. Surreal.

Im still pretty broken the fuck up about it.

Bluesky + Texas Tribune... Bias much?

Kerrville Mayor is in a world of shit right now, I'm sure he'll say anything to get the heat off him...

Factual bias?

Concerning.

At least it's not 787 Million worth and counting of outright lies.

Come on, man don’t be a moron. They are reporting two conflicting accounts (with actual quotes) of what happened and these quotes do fucking conflict with each other. Both scenarios literally cannot be true

Not sure you are reading the quotes.

TDEM said they pre-positioned assets.

Mayor says he is not aware of pre-positioned State assets.

Both of these can certainly be true. Just because mayor isn’t aware doesn’t me mean they were there.

You’re right I didn’t consider the state could conceivably stage assets for a disaster event in a city and fail to notify the city.

Maybe the staging areas were county and there was no communication from county to city?

Is this the same head of FEMA who said he'd never heard of "hurricane season" before?

Same ... and the one who told staffers, in a moment of sharing info in an all-hands meeting, that he had just learned the state of Texas is larger than Spain. But he was satisfied when he compared them on a map.

Just got a Blue Alert for something in Alvarado Texas involving injury to an officer.   150+ miles away.  Nothing I can do about it so don't alert me.

Since last Thursday I have received two flood warnings, both Saturday, for Travis/Williamson County.  Not a thing for any of the flooding at the various counties/towns within 50 or so miles of me.

Colorado deployed Sunday evening and arrived mid afternoon Monday. When CO got to check in they were told go rest and check your gear and we’ll put you to work in the morning. CO said we checked our gear before we left and we can rest when we get home; what’s our assignment….

Missouri had theirs on the ground as well.

Quote

Missouri Task Force 1 arrived in San Antonio, Texas, late Tuesday night following its activation by the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Monday.

The 50-member team completed check-in procedures Wednesday morning at its designated staging location and has received its initial mission assignment.

MO-TF1 has been tasked with conducting primary searches in Kerr County, Texas.

Deadly flooding began in the Texas Hill County early Friday morning, and the disaster hit Kerr County hard. Officials confirmed Tuesday that more than 160 people were feared missing in the county, with nearly 100 dead. The total death toll from the disaster has reached 119, NBC News reports.

Upon arrival in the disaster area Wednesday afternoon, MO-TF1 will begin methodically searching a designated geographical area, according to the Boone County Fire Protection District.

Yep. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Had a similar situation happen during the 2007 California wildfires (San Diego area). While other teams got de-mobilized after a week, we left SD and went north to the Indian Reservation outside of Temecula for our second week.

Looks like the death toll from this is gonna be more than double what the death toll from Harvey was

This is what I was basically saying when I said earlier anyone within 100-150 yards of either side of the river was in serious trouble.  I didn't want to say a number but knew it would be multiple hundreds given the holiday and the time it hit and how fast it hit.  the only way this isn't a massive disaster is if they have a siren system and enable it at 1AMish.

it is just incredibly sad.

Did the BBQ drop-off in Boerne for the SIL and his team.  He said they started in Bergheim today and then went straight to Canyon Lake leapfrogging the teams in between.  He said they found a "few" victims and went into a bit of detail on condition, but I'll leave that out here.  It's what you think it would be and ID is not easy.

Met his commander, who said the guys in the field were getting fed "But it's the same sandwiches over and over..." then grumbled a bit about "The guys who are staying in Kerrville are getting the good stuff."  That is to say the ribs and bacon/jap wrapped chicken skewers were well received.  He told me they'd be back searching Canyon Lake tomorrow.  That aspect is just surreal.  The whole thing is.

Well, so, for the ttwwps purists...

Hey Ed, just saying.  It was as depressing for me to learn as it is to anyone else.   Guess that’s why burying someone at least kept the buzzards off, until the ground eaters dug them up.

The commander fella was really sincere about thanking me.  The younger dudes (SIL included) were more slap on the back, "man that's good stuff!" thankful but that guy squared me up, stared straight into my eyes, and gave one of those very serious, "Thank you.  No, look at me. Thank you" kind of deals.  It was unsettling, but not in a bad way if that makes any sense.  Of all of them he showed the weight of what they'd been through the most.

The comic relief, though, was one of the guys there complaining about how when this was all over he'd have to go back to Pecos, TX.  Having lived out that way for a season of my life I completely understood and co-signed his bitching.

I was sort of disappointed the guy didn't look a bit more like Billy Bob Thornton though.  If I'm being honest.

I think that is more likely than not. I also think the assets could have been a couple of trucks and boats. Everything is so murky right now. The more I hear, the more I lean towards the person that fucked this up the most (for the campers) is already dead.
