I have no inside knowledge, but I'll ask my buddy who has both a masters degree from UT (PetEng) and a veterinary degree from UGA.  He lives in Athens.  I would be shocked if UF cares more about beating a highly ranked Texas team than they do beating a highly ranked UGA team whom they hate with every fiber of their collective being.

That's a weird combo

Agreed. Florida has beaten UGA once since 2016 and it was the COVID year. Last 4 games have involved a top 2 UGA against an unranked Florida.

I would say, with a healthy Lagway its absolutely 2nd or 3rd.

Definitely not bigger than OSU and depending on how it shakes out this season Georgia is 2nd or 3rd. Given recent history, I'd out Georgia above Florida, but with how early this gsme it, our OL performance is a much greater cause for concern than I think it will be by Georgia.

Still 5th for me behind UGA, tOSU, OU and aggy

Oh, maybe I miss interpreted @Js1 take. I understood he was saying toughest games of the season. If we're talking want to win, OSU and OUsux are 1B and 1A respectively, aggie 2, Georgia 3 and UF 4. Georgia wants to creep above aggie given my attendance at the SEC champ game last year.. its real damn close. However, the insufferable reaction sure to arrise in an aggie victory propels it to 2.

Yeah, I was saying it feels like suddenly (today), everyone is making UF out to be our toughest game because they, for some reason, want to beat us more than anyone else on their schedule, according to posters.

Ohio State and Georgia will likely be tougher games, and arky, aggy and OU are wildcards due to the rivalry aspect.

Lulz.. well, I'm not sorry I missed all those posts. Not sure how anyone thinks UF is tougher than OSU nor why Florida would rather beat us than the team that is both their rival and top SEC team for a while.

But, the fuck do I know.

Why would this be true

I feel like the last few years is CFB playoffs have shown us a good offense will decimate a good man to man D.  That disguise and blitz is the way to get a CFB playoff QB off his game.

I don’t think they go solely man to man. Teams these days mix coverages.

Most of PK's early tenure was spent trying to stanch the bleeding caused by having not enough starters at every level. Let's say times have changed.

I'm sure he's got coverage schemes being practiced. Opposing QBs will spend time in the film room seeking tendencies, reading helmets, and seeing footwork. They'll audible, call hot routes, and practice eye discipline.

None of that will matter because, after the snap, the QB will be on the ground in under 3 seconds. The pass defense will be, to paraphrase Bobby Clarke "Take the shortest path to the QB. Arrive in ill humor.".

I got to talk to Arch this summer at a party. He is passionate about Texas and has been since he was a kid. He said he’s not in a hurry to leave and said if they don’t reach their goals this year then they will still have the 2026/27 season.

So Man 2 coverage. That is not very aggressive.

Allows more press.

But maybe their cover 3 scheme allows jamming receivers at the optimal time anyway too.

I just know that without Chip Kelley this new guy is going to have some curve balls but he's also going to probably play it more safe, so we can't have the defense on the field the whole game, first game of the year getting worked and dinked and dunked is all. Gbenda got a pick in the playoff game so maybe we're going to be just fine running whatever scheme PK likes to run.

I don't think Gideon was some defensive mastermind that things are going to substantially change losing him. Personnel and individual instruction is obviously going to change but I think PK was the architect of the whole defense the whole time.

Watching this garbage, he's having success when nobody is within 5 yards of any receivers then nobody touches them wide open down the field... Obviously not a great scheme on D  to stop seams and corner routes.

A little more offensive line discussion

With Trevor Goosby currently sidelined with a finger injury, we've discussed the different ways Kyle Flood is trying to backfill the various OL positions.

Yesterday, CJ reported Neto Umeozulu had seen some action at left tackle. We're hearing Brandon Baker is now getting some reps over on the left side, too.

Texas, with just 11 days to go until they matchup with Ohio State in Columbus, is repping all emergency-type scenarios. It's important to remember that Jaydon Chatman is coming off of an off-season knee surgery, so the Horns are making sure there is depth for the long haul.

**

Someone yesterday mentioned that Brandon Baker had not really stepped forward quite yet. Well, that's not what we've heard. We've heard Baker's technique is well advanced for his age and he has been an absolute stalwart in extra workout sessions and the film room.

**

Like Gerry, I've also heard freshman running back James Simon has put together a succession of high-end practices.

Am I insane or is the absolute worst way to play a physical beast like Smith is with man press? It seems like you would have to be one bad motherfucker to regularly handle that guy on the LOS. I think Muhammad is a fine CB, but he’s certainly not a bad motherfucker physically.

Depends on the situation. If you're getting backed up into your own redzone you could press him as part of a bracket coverage. Or if he struggles with getting clean releases off the line if pressed.

Probably don't want to do it if he has a ton of field to work with.

That was Saban’s knock on Manny IIRC.

Taaffe at nickel seems regaurded. He's great in zone playing back and finding picks.
He sucks at changing directions and getting shook as fuck (remember last year spring game?).
They are going to put Tate in the slot and Taaffe will be 5 yards behind the guy every cut

This is my fear too. I don’t think he has the athleticism to play the nickel. It would be one thing if they were anticipating a lot of runs, that would give you a pretty solid tackler. But I don’t want to see him one on one with anybody.

They wouldn’t be using him like a traditional nickel corner

To my eyes he has good touch and decent accuracy, but his throws lack the zip of Arch in that video. Didn't watch it all the way through though.

They were flat out embarrassed. Which certainly means we'll see a different UF this year. They certainly have it circled as the #1 most important game on their schedule. Even more so if Texas goes in #1. And it's not like we don't know we're every teams Super Bowl.

I don't think Texas goes in lacking focusness, but every team plays better at home than on the road. When that plane lands in Gainesville, our players better have veins full of piss and vinegar.

Mine will be filled with woodford and diet.

Parents are Gators and I was a Gator before a Horn. Of course they want to beat the number 1 team, but that is a much better loss than losing to Georgia (again), FSU, Tenn, or LSU. The hate for those teams runs strong.

I have high expectations for this team and can’t fucking wait for 8/30 to get this bitch started.
