You are a fan of fumbling??

I'm a fan of bodies in the RB room the way things have gone the past couple years. But this is only relavent if there's another injury squeeze at the RB position down the stretch.

I put this on the Gibson recruiting thread, but I'll cross-post. Gibson has a 5/105 career fumble to carry ratio. If Wis fumbled his next 14 carries, his would still be more favorable. Gibson is too great a fumble risk IMO.

EDIT I WAS WRONG it is 12 more. Thanks Satya.

Gibson could go to a school and be a really productive back if he got his fumbling under control probably.  I was and still am more worried about Baxter and YAC than Gibson.  Baxter’s YAC so far when healthy is absolutely horrible, he literally had a game with 20 carries and 1 yard of YAC last year…

Any yardage after contact is pretty good if you didn't play in any of the games.

Ok year before, you get the point.  A lot has to change for you mentally to improve that.  Not like he was extra small then either. He was the opposite of a Skattobo when he was healthy.

Tbf, his only real game played this season was against tOSU with a long run of 14 yards and 4.0 yards/carry. That's not bad against tOSU defense. If he played in the ou game, I'm confident he would have had a good day considering the oline was playing the best they played all season.

Gibson is already a good back if he could stop fumbling once per game.  I wish him tight shoulders and strong hands at his next destination.

No matter what happens this season let's just fix the damn RB room going into next season.   Ever since Brooks injury the RB squad has been on its heels trying to recover.

he literally had one game where he got 20 carries in 2023 and he averaged 5.9 yards per carry in that game.  i am doubting your statistic.

He really isn't that good of a back. He hasn't shown great vision either year he has been here and was still doing JV stuff like trying to bounce runs outside as recently as 3 days ago. He got a lot of mileage out of that one TD run against Michigan.

The fumbling issue is just the cherry on top. Good luck to him at his next stop, but you could see this coming from a mile away in August when a guy coming off an Achilles tear passed him on the depth chart.

This actually sucks.  CJ is out and Tre is playing dinged up.  If Tre goes down again, Gibson would be a guy who starts getting plenty of carries.  That being the case, why leave now?  Why not finish the season, get whatever touches you get, then transfer?

The people clamoring for Clark and Simon confuse the fuck out of me. Both of their play, in direct comparison to Wisner, shows they aren't ready. I haven't seen them do shit against anyone with a pulse all season since Ohio State. I get Gibson's decision, but I'm surely not in the "this is fine" camp. Lets hope Baxter gets back state, because fuck, once again we seem short of warm bodies.

The bottom half of this box score for rushing is pretty fucking damning:

To preserve his red shirt, dude.

Hopefully the RB room can stay healthy and this won't impact us but stuff like this (happening across college football no doubt) is another reason the redshirt rule needs to just go away.  Every athlete should get up to 5 seasons of eligibility period.  That's it.  No 4 game rule.  No injury redshirt (although I could be convinced otherwise on this point).   But if a player signs on to a team for a year, they should be expected to finish that year out or lose any Revshare/NIL benefits.

From Gibson's perspective, it makes complete sense to leave the team now as he hasn't burned a shirt and gets to retain this year of eligibility, but we just need to remove the entire concept from the equation.   He could stay here and be a depth piece and potentially get a chance to either carve out a role for himself here or help his value in the portal if we end up needing to play him.  Instead, it's essentially a wasted year for him and a wasted roster slot for Texas.

I don’t even know where to find the stat anymore but his YAC is absolutely terrible for 2023 minus the last game  or two especially for that one.  But believe what you want. I remember after that game he had 1 yard of YAC recorded.

Okay, so you want to leave because you're not getting touches, but you want to leave right now because you're afraid you'll start getting touches.  That's an interesting way of looking at things, I guess.  Or maybe there's more to it and he just wants to be somewhere else, or not here, for whatever other reasons.

This dude was a highly ranked recruit. He wants to go someplace where he can be the bell cow and get 15-20 carries a game. Was not going to happen here with Wisner as RB1, CJ Baxter returning from injury, and Simon passing him up.

Do you see a lot of broken tackles by a 220 lb RB vs DB’s in this video that wern’t a couple runs in the last two games?  Or him getting taken down by one DB more often?  I’m just saying we seem to expect a Bijan, Brooks, ect type when he comes back but that’s reaching a bit.

With Derek Cooper coming next year Gibson just wouldnt see much playing time.

Not to mention Baxter coming back soon. Go get some reps and hold on to the ball. Has a chance to make camp somwhere in the future with this size and speed.

When Baxter comes back Gibson would have gotten zero non-garbage time snaps. He got one carry against OU with Baxter out.

Oh, I get it.  But how many games has Baxter played in a season and a half?

Isn't Gibson's path to more snaps clearer now than it was at the beginning of the season?

Whatever, best of luck to him wherever he lands.  Leaving your team midseason sucks, though.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but this video seems like evidence that Baxter is a good back who gets plenty of YAC? Remember that "YAC" is yards after contact, not just broken tackles. Seems like it usually takes multiple defenders tackling Baxter in the body / legs to take him down. Arm tackles weren't doing it.

Which I generally consider good, hard running.

lol i see plenty of yards after intial contact in that video.  25 seconds in he runs 5 extra yards after contacted for a TD.

You must have watched with your eyes closed.  The play at :15 he broker three tackles to score YAC was about 6 yards.  The play at around :50 he broke three tackles with about 10 yards after contact.

Yes, a year of eligibility is more important than him getting 2-3 touches a game. A whole other year down the line could lead to NIL money dude.

Who knows what happens, but Diego Pavia sued to get a 6th year because Vandy was going to pay him. Dude saves his year, maybe blows up somewhere else, maybe he gets another year to make some NIL bank.

Gonna be that guy and hope this means it's common knowledge behind the scenes CJ is okay and they've just been overly cautious with him, ready to give him more consistent reps

I thought it was pretty well known that Baxter is out for KY?

Gibson seems like he's better suited as a tailback in an I-formation offense or one where the QB is under center and pitches the ball back to RB so he can read the holes better.

Get him some road graders in front of him, hang on to the ball and he could be a highly productive college RB.  Seems like an old-school Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, or Miami type RB.

Idk what you’re watching?  Minus the couple highlights from the last couple games DB’s that weight 170 pounds are taking him down with solo tackles.  I don’t think you watched past the first two highlights.

Will Stone is off the team too now. Didn't see that earlier.

Is today the day everyone are leaving their teams to maintain redshirt if possible? Saw Auburn's RB Damari Alston is no longer on the team too.

James Simon is basically Jerrick Gibson, thus far without the fumbling.  I think until Baxter is back Simon was easily number 2 in line for carries, regardless of if Gibson stayed.

I don't think this has anything to do with CJ one way or the other and certainly not the staff pushing Gibson out the door mid-season (unless an unreported culture issue which I doubt is the case).   Gibson is just looking out for himself by preserving his RS.  He knows he's not getting 1st or 2nd team carries absent multiple injuries.

My biased view of the RB room:

Wisner - great after contact, great at cutbacks, pretty slow, reliable, good attitude. Solid contributor but not Ricky Williams, obviously.

Baxter - showed a few tiny flashes as a freshman but basically a non factor until there’s evidence he can not only get on the field, but also produce. I’m skeptical.

Gibson - the fumbling is slightly less of an issue than it was and there were a few tiny flashes at times, but also a lot of bury his head into the line and gain 1. I think he’s got something but he needs a fresh start I guess.

Simon - flashed several times but obviously still learning protections, etc.  I’d like to see him get more carries.

Clark - just meh. Average at everything.

Ricky Stewart - whispers of an issue there?

Thin RB room, yet again.
