We waited too long to ditch the “errybody clap yo hands” tape at the disch. I could see his frustration with change as he aged as a fan. I grew up with him as the only crowd organizer at games.  Clapping to disrupt the pitcher or starting a Texas Fight chant, he was it. As a kid I thought he was the fan we should all want to be, with an affinity for leadership I aspired to be that guy when I grew up, the one all the fans followed. I did grow out of that simple world view but it’s true he had a lasting impact on me as a Texas fan, fact is some of my happiest memories involved following his lead cheering on the horns to a victory at the disch.

Drunk David ash?

jokes aside, SW was a childhood legend for me and my siblings. Brought us a lot of joy. Rest easy

Wilson, Beast, Wild Bunch - all a part of my growing up at The Disch.  I was 6 when my parents bought season tickets the first year.  Section 11, Row 6.  My grandparents were on row 5.  Scott and the bunch were across the field from us.  Along with the above by Scramblyn, also the slow clap building up to a fast one in the 9th to close out the game.

I let the tickets go after about 40 years of sitting there.  When Patterson raised the prices and sent the renewal the week after Texas went 2 and que at DBU I decided that was it with other things going on in life.  But would still see Scott on occassion, including the last couple of years at a Bourbon/Baseball fund raiser my son organized.

Hook'em Scott!!

This whole sad tale reminds me of a Scott Wilson story when his original orange Caddy convertible made its final stop on the side of the road in Oklahoma while Scott was returning home from a Big 12 game in Kansas.  Even though the vehicle was done, he paid to have it towed back to Texas because he felt "it wouldn't get a Christian burial in Oklahoma." Now I look forward to Scott's final return to Texas.

I seem to remember seeing that car broken down on the way back from Omaha one year.

Sheeeeit.... that fucking Caddy had several broken-down-side-of-the-road deaths

I’m not sure that the guy who went to a billion consecutive games would appreciate an empty seat in his honor, but it’s a nice idea.

maybe they could make it orange, have it empty for the first game, and then have his family decide what to do with the tickets he had after that.

Is there any way we can comfortably bring Scott back to Texas?

I have wondered about this. I don't know if it could be done while he is still alive or not.

I know it's a stretch, but it would be a great help to the family if Scott could be brought back to Austin by plane. It certainly wouldn't knock a hole in the athletic budget if UT sent him and his sister back to Austin by a private jet.

It would cost quite a bit to have the body sent back to Austin by a hearse

How about one of those cardboard cutouts they did during covid games?

I was on that trip with Hunnert, Wilson, and a couple of other people. We were coming home from Omaha, where Texas had just won the national championship. The better line that Hunnert had for that woman was when she came up to him and told him that he had ruined her car. Hunnert was pumping gas and after the usual pause he came out with one of his one word classic answers. He just looked at her and said, "sorry."

My first trip to Disch-Falk went down to the wire and as the drama built there was all this ... clapping.

Slow claps leading to fast claps, clap-clap-clap, just on and on.  It added a level of tension and anticipation to baseball that I had never experienced.  Of course, I was previously a Rangers fan.

Someone told me it was led by a fan, and I think now that was Scott.  That was pretty peak Wild Bunch and I had student tickets way up high so I never got to hear what they were saying, but the clapping thing was incredible.

What a fantastic experience, I still remember it.

His streak of games seems more out of reach than Dimaggio's record. Sad day for his family, friends, and the university, but that guy lived a long life spent chasing his passions to an extent that few people have the conviction to do. I didn't know the guy, only knew of him, but he got to live the life he wanted to live. Not everyone can say that. RIP to a legend.

We drove him home from the tailgate after a home football game vs Tech. My buddy and his brother are Red Raiders, and came along for the ride. Scott gave them the tour of his house.  If you haven't been, it's a museum of Texas fandom and it's incredible.

And each item that catches your eye comes with a hilarious story, which Scott was always happy to tell again  My personal favorite was the remote control airplane which had OU SUCKS written on the bottom of the wings.

Every other year from then on, when my Tech buddies showed up to the Tech-Texas game the first person they wanted to see was Wilson.

Hook em to an absolute legend
