Interesting that the life expectancy in Montana and the Midwest is decent. Their diets are terrible.

Low stress. What are those people stressed about?

It's crazy to me how few fat people I see now that I don't live in Texas.  I see them in LA, but where I live it's really unusual to see an obese person.  Probably because food is so fucking expensive.

When I go back to Austin, both the airport and the town are a shock to me in how fat everyone is.

Austin proper is skinny. Go out 15 miles to the burbs of Kyle, Cedar Park, Round Rock, you might as well be in any city in the South. When we leave Austin proper, I am always amazed how old and fat the rest of the state is.

86.8 holla. Funny, im in the belief that even if you die at 70-75, you were young and didn't get a full life..anything probably above 85 means youre probably on borrowed time from here on out

There are plenty of fat people in KC but whenever I connect though DFW the size difference of passengers is always shocking. It has to be the fattest airport in the world.

The color bar was compressed to exaggerate differences. E.g. the state level difference in expentancy between Montana vs Georgia is 1.5 years.

Because that's a demographic map.  Life expectancy, like most things (e.g. obesity rate, #1 driver of mortality) is highly segregated by race.

The variance within a group is smaller than distance from the baseline population

Baked into infant life expectancy numbers are non-health factors, like behavioral (risk taking / accidents), suicide, homicide, etc.

So if you make it to 65 past the gauntlet -- you havent been killed in a DUI, or liver cirrhosis from watching too many UT games -- you "gain" 5+ years of expectancy.

Avg life expectancy in Texas is like 77 years

0-25 early life

26-51 middle age

52-77 end of life

Living to 75 is pretty fucking great. Especially if you have all your faculties up until the end

One of the greatest tragedies in life is seeing a big fat chick with tiny titties.  A crime against nature.

Those Latinos do well for themselves.

We suffer from high obesity, diabetes, heart disease. But it really comes down to us generally having a wide supporting network of family to take care of us, go to appointments, live with, etc. The border regions also have low rates of violent crime which helps. If you looked at latino life expectancy in a big city though it’s probably lacking.

Metabolic health conditions kill more people than anything else.  In addition to the above mentioned, you also have people with a meager VO2 max and low muscle density.  Comorbidities, a weak O2 output, and shit for muscles pretty much seals the deal.  So don't be a fat fuck, move your ass, and work out.

Not controlled for BMI

This is not BMI% directly, but it's % of BMI over 30

Congrats to D.C. for having the highest homicide rate in the country, at over 4x the national average.  (Their cancer rate is lowest decile and heart disease is 2nd lowest decile).

We're about to bid for a house up the hillside. Wife complains about having to walk around at elevation. She's petite, but I still need to convince her it's actually a good thing.

Muscle loss in women is critical.  Tell her she's going to have nice legs, calves, and a juicy thumper-dumper
