Last year, the national champion would have been left out the playoffs completely. Texas also would have been left out, who made the semifinals.

And yet, a 4 team playoff is a better format that rewards regular season excellence in keeping with college football tradition.

a 12 playoff is just moronic.sorry but it is. Should have been capped at 6. We all know this but somehow play along

Fuck you. Seriously you are a goddamn moron who is also a piece of shit

The +4 playoffs are good for the extra games... But there is really only 2-4 teams who really threaten to win any given year.  Yes, sooner or later a dark horse will  pull it off, but that has more to do with the stars lining up at the right time than actually being the best team.  Cinderella bitch

So?  The regular season should matter.

I liked the BCS.

I can stomach 12 if you eliminate the auto bids and truly select the best teams.  8 would be better

That said, at least Tulane and JMU had special, conference winning seasons at their level. I love us, but who really wants to watch P5 teams get rewarded for three loss seasons?

College tradition is antiquated bullshit and nothing but old men yelling at clouds. Sorry, that junk is history. Embrace it. You have plenty of pointless scrimmages they label as bowls you can watch.

And your statement makes absolutely no sense and the very first year of the 12 team format proved it. In this 4 team format, Georgia, Oregon, Clemson, Arizona State are your 4 p4 champs. All 4 of those teams didn't even win a game last playoffs. Yet if we kept that format, we probably would have seen Georgia vs Oregon in the title game. Both of those teams got whipped last playoffs. Now go back down through the years and see how many really good teams were left out because only 4 made it. Texas would have made the playoffs 11 times if we had a playoff format this entire time since the BCS era. We had some very good teams in that time in the 2000s I'd have loved to see them actually prove it on the field instead of getting left out completely. Had we had a playoffs in 2008, we most likely have another title. And how many national champions become different teams?

This idea that every single playoff game is going to be an instant classic and when it isn't, y'all tell this format sucks and let's go back to old formats.

More people than are going to watch Tulane and James Madison later.  You and ESPN can take that to the bank

Dgaf. This shit is awful
So you don't care that the actual national champion that proved it on the field would have gotten left out completely because of some antiquated way of picking teams? Lulz. Texas, a team who damn near made it to the national championship game also got left out. In fact, every semifinals team last year probably gets left out under the format you wanted.

Newsflash, not every playoff game in any sport is going to be a great game. That's kind of how sports work. Blowouts and dog shit games happen. The sport of college football is known for both.

100%. This is a horrible product. 4 P4 winners.

It's fucking mind bottling that the conference championship isn't the first round of the playoffs. Bama and OSU can try again next year, they aren't the best team in their conference

The issue isnt the teams, it is the selection committee. They are clearly morons and they picked bad teams over good ones who played a real schedule.

No. They could have won their conference. They didn’t. Thems the breaks.

Well we’ve officially said that conference championship games just don’t matter anymore. Really cool stuff

The conferences are too big so there’s not enough of a sample size of good vs good to really know who is great.  Indiana played Oregon.  Aggie played us. Tech played BYU.  tOSU played us.  We played 5 teams in the top 14 but only went 3-2

its hard to figure out who is the best if they don’t actually, you know, play one another.  If all of the top 16 teams this year had schedules that included 5 games amongst one another there wouldn’t be any undefeateds and teams like Aggie would be 8-4

they proved on the field that they didn't deserve it by losing to a shitty Michigan team.  But then they got a do-over and the playoff games counted more for reasons.

Aggy was going to be in no matter who was on the committee. Unbalanced conference schedules are a problem.

Yeah fuck the 12 team PO format.

Make it 16.

this year's slate would be improved with Texas Notre Dame, BYU and just pick another fourth team.

Anyone arguing for a 4-team playoff should be ignored and ridiculed.

This is the worst idea I've ever heard.

Why? This year it would have resulted in Georgia, Indiana, Tech. Instead we get a bunch of teams that have already proven they don’t deserve to compete for a title. As long as humans are making the picks instead of it being decided by playing there will be problems

Yea what we definitely need is 3 loss teams that haven’t won anything being given a chance for titles. Makes sense
