You don't understand how to doddering, sunsetting generation that is prone to fallacious thinking and con-men would get tricked by reality tv president? It's the people who were coming of age during reagan, and who cannot admit they're wrong even with faced with evidence. Of fucking course they're fooled.

This.  We are seeing perhaps the most gullible generation in our history, because they were trained to trust.  They believed Uncle Walter, for example.  But now, with the explosion of news sources, they succumb to their natural human inclination to find the one that most closely reflects their worldview....and then they trust it completely, without question.

The issue is not that they distrust CNN, the NYT, the Economist, etc.  It all springs from the fact that once they choose to trust one source -- Cronkite then, or Fox News now - then everything else is necessarily untrustworthy bullshit.

Contrast them with Gen Z and Millenials -- they don't trust shit.  If they are interested in a story, they dig into the facts on their own, because they have been raised in an environment where there are dozens of sources talking about the same thing, but saying wildly different things.  Instead of deciding that one of those sources is trustworthy, must not be questioned, and everything else is a lie, they instead exercised the rational thought of "maybe I shouldn't trust anything at face value."  They are some skeptical motherfuckers.  And that's good.

His translucent sphincter is pulsating with fear contractions.  The duress will cause him to lash out each day with intensified derangement and incoherence.  We're at the point where he knows that all it will take in the next few weeks is just one prominent senator from the herd of Trump entrenched loyalists to denounce this behavior and many more will follow.  The yahoos in the House will stay in camp.

The Senate can't pretend they haven't read a hilariously brief document for too much longer.  They're stalling and hoping the House will give them a buffer by going on recess.  Eventually they'll  have to acknowledge that they've processed everything.  Then their only option will be taking the position that they don't think any of this is a problem -- the absurd request, the unorthodox coding of phone calls with foreign leaders, Rogue Rudy gallivanting like a private arm of foreign diplomacy.  Just one of these cowards will have to step out on the ledge and it's lights out for Fat Donny.  Is there just one with enough testicles to put the country first?  Probably not.  But I bet the stress on Trump is unbearable trying to keep the nervous rodents in one box.

The president needs me. I think I will triple my past contributions which somebody will quadruple match. How can dear Donald offer a quadruple match, is that legal? It must be if he's doing it.

And he really cares about my support. He instructed his team to bring him my donor records! Maybe he was in Air Force One when he read my name. The Libs won't turn us into a socialist republic filled with nigras and Messicans on my watch!

We gotta fight those Hollywood fags and Crazy Joe, and Lazy Bernie and Pocahontas!

KAG!!!!!!

Sean RomaVicta,

The 2020 Democrats are floundering. They heard we had a RECORD BREAKING AUGUST, and they’re quickly realizing that NONE of them stand a chance of winning in 2020.

While I’ve been busy working day and night to deliver for YOU, Democrat candidates are FAILING to sell their SOCIALIST ideas to the American people.

But, the BIG GOVERNMENT SOCIALISTS like Sleepy Joe, Crazy Bernie, and Pocahontas won’t go down without a fight. They’re firing up their base of MEGA HOLLYWOOD DONORS to rescue their campaigns, which is why I really need you to step up, Sean RomaVicta.

I asked my team to pull your donor file, and I'll be honest, I was disappointed to see that you haven’t contributed recently. I thought it was a mistake, but take a look for yourself:

It's just that Trump is so transparent. I can understand getting fooled by Ronald Reagan. I was fooled by Ronald Reagan. I'll never understand how anyone could be fooled by Donald Trump. (But then I'll also never understand how people can mistake reality tv for reality and I know there's a fundamental connection between those two things.)

Unfortunately, for a lot of people, once you pick your team they are YOUR TEAM. It doesn't matter how shitty, stupid, and just plain awful they are.  They would rather see the world burn than admit they are easily duped imbeciles.  See: aggy, methlahoma, et al.

Sure they can.  All they have to do -- and I know this is tough -- is not solicit that foreign leader to assist your campaign by going after your opponent.  Also, it would help if said future presidents didn't go all "mob boss" by responding to a discussion of aid that we're giving him with a demand for that political favor.  So, if someone can manage to leave those things out, I imagine that they'll do just fine speaking to foreign leaders.

You fucking ignorant lump of shitslime.

After millenia of fraudsters, snake oil salesmen, and con-men, why do con-men still exist?

Because easily conned people still exist.  They always will.

Intellectually, this country is the equivalent of someone who just sent their life savings to a Nigerian prince, just knowing that he'll use it to free up the $50 million he has tied up in a Swiss bank account, after which he'll happily give them their 10% cut, for a smooth $5 million payday.  America is that fucking stupid.

Don't forget the hypnotic impact of the shiny object that is the ebil lib cabal foisting agendas, lying and working against everything America stands for. Kill the lib. Kill the lib. Kill the lib.

And then here sits us Gen Xers.

“He’s a moron. All media is shit. Can the rest of y’all make up your mind on if you’re gonna actually blow it all up? If not, I’ve got to get back to work so I can take care of my asshole parents and my asshole kids. Whatever.”

Our schools and society are lagging in nurturing critical thinking skills among young people. The skills needed to digest news, put them in context and effectively vet sources. Skepticism can lead to nihilism, conspiracy thinking, ignorance, apathy, and intolerance.

Youths are rightly skeptical of traditional media and institutions, but are wrongly attracted to superficial snippets of information. Largely, I disagree with your characterization that they are online sleuths digging for rational sources of information.

Still can’t believe 63,000,000 of my fellow Americans voted for this piece of shit to become President. Not sure I’ll ever understand what the fuck they were thinking.

He has an ® next to his name and they were told to. If Satan got the ® nom and Jesus Christ resurrected got the (D), what percentage of the R vote would Satan get? 75%?

Well, I certainly may have sampling bias -- I am speaking mostly of my kids and their peers.  When they discuss a topic with us, they are generally at one of two stages: 1) inquisitive, trying to understand the subject, the terms, etc., or 2) pretty well-read, explaining their positions with some basis for them.

But I don't discount your premise.  An avalanche of  runny shit makes it really hard to discern where the kernels of corn may be buried within.  I will certainly agree with this -- a lot of them don't fucking trust ANYONE.  The only real truth that they've seemed to grasp is that everyone is trying to play them.

I agree.  They are just as bad as the olds at identifying facts, and some studies are bearing that out.  They can fall into the same trap, albeit it from the opposite direction.  They may seek out all these different sources, but then they just latch on to the one they want to believe.   Critical thinking is shit throughout the current generations in America.

Well, then, fuck it -- my ledge remains the correct real estate to occupy.

Someone on this board has a dad with a master's degree in history who teaches history in high school. To get a masters in history, you have to really refine your critical thinking skills. This history teacher has the Fox News brain rot, so this little anecdotal story tells me our problem is significantly deeper than schools and society nurturing critical thinking skills among young people.

Sadly, it probably is.  And although I’ve always thought Trump is pretty much as awful as he’s proving to be, I used to think you were way too dramatic about how hopeless things were in general.  But Trump has revealed much scarier things about the true nature of our people, institutions and nation than he has about his own fucked up pathologies.

See, where I think this line of thinking goes astray is that y'all lump "our people" into one big pathology.  It's just not true.  There may be certain negative character traits shared by most Americans, but the worst of those are by no means universal.

I realism nihilism is fun -- if you're a 20 year old college undergrad.  Eventually, it becomes pointless.
