Switzer is a cheating piece of shit okie trash hick.

That said, ctj advocating bleeding him out with a cokctail sword in a bar restroom is pretty great coming from someone that makes it a point to demean anyone below a heightened level of class and intelligence.

I’d enjoy getting drunk with him. I picture him telling some pretty good stories.

I hate ND but I sat at a table with lou Holtz for 90 minutes once and I loved listening to his stories.

I assume you had a raincoat on if you enjoyed listening to him.

Blue moon fucking sucks and if you serve it with an orange slice you might as well call an Uber and go peg your boyfriend at that point in the night.

If I ever meet Switzer in a public setting I don't want to remember anything after the 3rd drink

But you'd hang around for the third drink huh ?

So I’m at a casino in Tulsa ( not by choice)

And fucking satan is on the other side of the bar. So far I’ve just been giving him the stink eye. I want to go pee on his leg but my wife won’t let me.

What would y’all do.

If you are (1) at a third-rate casino (2) in Tulsa, Oklahoma and (3) sitting across from Barry Switzer, you need to take a minute and re-evaluate the choices you have made in life.

Then stand on the bar and piss on him. What’s the worst that could happen?  How much worse could Tulsa jail be than a fucking Tulsa casino frequented by Barry Fucking Switzer?

The guy is fucking great socially and isn't gonna turn into some dipshit 'durrrrr, Texas sucks durrrrr'.  Say hi, and shoot the shit.

Doubt any of you would ever admit it, but you'd love to bullshit and have beers with Barry over Mack.  Maybe milk and cookies with Sally...

I ran into Barry at a restaurant in NW OKC circa 1990. We were both waiting on people we were meeting for lunch. He saw me and approached me as if he was still coaching and I was Toby Keith or that fat fuck donor who hangs out on the sidelines. He was so damn engaging that I forgot I was supposed to hate him. I told him that I was a Texas grad, but that I thought the Texas-OU game just wasn’t the same without him (we had managed to beat Gary Gibbs at least twice at that point). He was fun to talk to, and I immediately saw how good he must have been at recruiting.

Nah, I've had a beer with a few Texas legends in my time.  They were good people and pretty chill.  If you get this bent out of shape in 'real life' over sharing drinks with a rival I worry for  your mental health...then again your username is 'close to jumping'.  Anyways, you got me, touche.

WHY DIDNT YOU STABBED HIM

DURRRRRRR

For someone who prides themselves on their presumed intelligence, you took the notion of me recommending murder with a cocktail sword a lot more seriously than you should have.

Count me in on the group that would enjoy having a few drinks with Switzer.  He’d be a lot more fun to hang out with than any of our past coaches.

I read some article about him a few years ago, maybe in Men’s Journal or something...  The author interviewed him during a game-watching party at Switzers house.   He had all kinds of people invited there, the kind of people that Mack would never invite to his house. Down-on-their-luck former players,  current college students, the guy who cut his lawn, other random people from the neighborhood, etc...  Switzer in the middle of it all  giving these people a day-long break from their pathetic lives.

I've had drinks with Barry through a mutual business partner. I can attest that he gets drunk as shit and is charming as hell. He asked where I went to school and I told him OSU. He looked me real serious and said "Well I'm sorry to hear that son" then did a signature belly laugh. Told me a story that he tells at most public appearances these days that Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas are the two best players he's ever seen and he took pride that they never beat him in college, but then says his first game as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys was against the Lions and Barry Sanders went for 200+ and beat him finally. Also has some good stories about Barry Sanders' dad Willie who was a high school coach I think. He also let me wear his super bowl ring, which was awesome since I'm a Dallas fan.

None of this is to say he's not a terrible person. He was a big time cheater in college, obviously, and doesn't give two shits about his kids unless they helped him win.  At 80 years old he was trying  to horndog around because we were in a different city and he left his wife at home. He loves people asking for his picture, but mostly when it's a female. He would have been torched by #metoo if he wasn't past his prime. It's possible to be a great person to talk to and charming as hell and also a terrible person. That's exactly who he is

I had dinner with him a few times back in the 80s when he was still coaching.

I would definitely have gone over, re-introduced myself, and reminded him that he still owes me three drinks of premium scotch.

He doesn't, but I bet that a) I would have gotten them, and b) he wouldn't have had to pay for them.

That would be the only part I would strongly disagree with. Barry has his flaws but discarding kids and former players is not one of them. Not just the former stars either. He will help anybody that asks

Unrelated, but Barry's big passion now is animal rescue & search & rescue dogs. Him and his wife opened a search & rescue training facility west of Norman

I remember seeing him at the Catfish Parlor on 71 with a group of Dallas coaches back in the summer of '98 when the Cowboys were still holding their training camp at St. Ed's. I have no strong feeling about the guy one way or the other, but I imagine he would be interesting to talk to.

It isn't that he's a rival.  It's that he's scum.

A relationship with an old rival is like what DKR and Frank Broyles had.  DKR on the otherhand had no relationship with Switzer after coaching.  DKR obviously understood the distinction though you don't.

If you’d have more fun hanging out with Switzer than DKR, then you deserve him.

I don't get the hate for him now. Seems aggy-esque.

Of course, I wouldn't have pissed on him if he were on fire when he was ousux coych.   But that's all in the past and he is entertaining and would be a hoot to hang with at a poker night or deer camp or do a loop with.  You know the BS would be top notch.
