Maybe, but it sure sounds like excuse-making for poor PR. It’s like BLM. Does the choir we’re preaching to understand that “Black Lives Matter” doesn’t mean “Only Black Lives Matter?” Sure. But the purpose of a slogan is to persuade some of those who didn’t previously agree with you.

The simple inclusion of “, Too” from the start would have avoided countless pointless discussions with people who don’t actually disagree with the real sentiment of the movement but who are easily distracted by cynical trolls and their deliberate misinterpretation. It hasn’t been a complete PR failure, but the effectiveness of the BLM movement was hampered by inadvertent ambiguity in the slogan.

We can bitch and complain about how stupid and easily confused undecided American voters are, but that’s the reality of the world. Any progressive movement should expect cynical pushback from the right. Because that is what always happens.

Black lives matter is not ambiguous. You should reach out to the community who created the slogan and let them know your opinion on how it should have been named.

I actually highly recommend it. You have to like black comedy, though (and have the stomach for gratuitous violence). American Psycho's brand of satire is especially dark, but I found it very funny.

Bale’s early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when The Machinist came out in '04, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole movie has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the film a big boost.

I can't find anything online distinguishing the terms. "Black comedy" in ordinary usage definitely does not mean comedy involving black people, as you imply.

As absurd as this is, it’s the same “work the refs” approach the Republicans have always used on anything threatening their power.  It’s just more overtly ridiculous now.

What do you mean by his performances being "new wave" exactly? His turn in Psycho is fantastic, absolutely nails the character, and is my personal favorite of his. The Machinist is also an amazing performance.

I don't agree.  For those that don't pay that much attention, but still vote, it's an easy layup for dotard to push the narrative, just based off the labeling.  Biden needs to push back hard on this point.

There is literally no wording that would prevent them from creating a false narrative to scare the mouth breathing voters. They call literally any effort to expand social safety nets or increase tax revenues as "socialism." Any efforts to regulate within the capitalist economy is "socialist" and sometimes even called "communist." Any gun regulation, even as benign as background checks, is "taking y'ur guns." With everything Biden says, trump tweets that he is "far left," even though Biden is extraordinarily conservative for a Democrat, refusing thus far to embrace universal healthcare or police defunding. Anyone who is not paying much attention (blazing saddles: "you know, morons") will always fall for the far right soundbites that they have developed for decades. "Police reform" has been a buzzword for decades, including since at least Rodney King , and has resulted in literally nothing helpful. There is more attention paid by changing the language, because the past language has been ineffective.

It's the far left pushing it. The AOC/Omar wing. The ones who've been losing damn near every major race around the country the last 2 years.

Police reform since Rodney King includes positives like:

Body Cams
Community Policing

It’s up against:

Mass shootings
Escalation of civilian gun ownership
Terrorist attacks
Mexican drug cartels
Deterioration of bill of rights for individuals
Deterioration of public defenders
Cuts in govt funding in all other areas

-“Ban all Muslims”

-“Lock her up”

the above slogans are pretty damn clear in their intent. They don't need to be explained away.

A: Uh, we mean repeal Obamacare.

Defund the Police is a self-inflicted slogan for liberals. It’s already been co-opted and muddied and divisive.

BLM wants accountability in government for equal protection under the law. Most people can get behind that and that’s what democracy is about.

What is misleading about defunding the police?  That’s exactly the goal.  Defund the motherfucking police.  Slogans don’t need nuance, that’s why they’re slogans. Some are just uncomfortable with the idea and they demand more clarity in order to dismiss the idea.

We should rename one of our underground missile silo bunkers Fort Trump

Fun little wiki entry regarding our history of naming bases after Confederate winners -

Bragg is generally considered among the worst generals of the Civil War. Most of the battles in which he engaged ended in defeats.

Yeah, pearl-clutching and fear is not limited to one party or the other, it's been a reliable pandering subject for #bothsides for decades.  I'd wager there are any number of reliably Democratic voters not fully indoctrinated in the problems with police and the criminal justice system who find the "defund" slogan alarming.

If we can get one of the bases renamed after McCain we may finally be rid of this asshole.

Repeating the question is rookie level. Follow up with the natural conclusion: "Oh, so is the fact that black people are disproportionately likely to be in jail due to some inherent quality of being a black person? Does being black make you more likely to commit a crime?

George Conway has my Hackett doppelgänger vote.

Like the GOP isn't going to fearmonger no matter what the slogan is.  This is the same party that deemed Obama the most divisive president ever, Obamacare as communism and the largest violation of personal freedom ever, and is terrified of the Antifa boogeyman.

I mean, even without that angle, isn't the character a narcissistic serial killer with a massive inferiority complex? Am I misremembering here? What's to like about the character? He has a fancy job?
