A major nationwide pandemic  as justification for .... postponing an election?

Honestly, how does an election look during a Lombardy level of lock down? What do the conventions look like?

Spoke to a Trumper yesterday at an event who also said the same thing. He also insisted that coronavirus has been around forever because his friend was hospitalized with pneumonia 6 months ago. I kindly explained how pneumonia existed long before this strain of coronavirus.  He also said Trump would be remembered as the greatest President of all time and would get 80% of the vote in November.
He actually was pretty receptive. We even talked a bit about medicare for all which started with "how do we pay for it?"  He was then willing to break down his own family's ridiculously high monthly out of pocket medical expense, not including his premiums which he considered "free."   But he was even receptive to understanding that premiums were part of compensation, and was beginning to understand that the money was already there.
We parted, cordially, with him saying he likes Cuomo and would vote for him over Trump, but he hates Bernie and Biden. I laughed and told him he was the first person I've ever heard admit to liking Cuomo.
It can usually be a cordial conversation when immigration isnt one of the topics.  And maybe hearts and minds can still be turned. I really don't think this guy cares about immigration one way or the other. There are probably many like him.  The xenophobes though. Fuck them.

I know it’s stating the obvious, but your friend is a piece of shit. You should vet your social circle a bit better.

#IMpotus is suddenly going to believe in science and call off the election due to corona virus concerns. Moscow Mitch and IMpotus’s lap dog Supreme Court are both ready to rubber stamp it.

France has now surpassed japan with the number of cases. But I also believe that Japan’s number has barely budged recently. Either they’re struggling to test like the US or they have contained it.

regardless you have assume it’s political pressures that’s preventing the CDC from issuing a travel advisory to France like they have with Japan.

They shut down all their schools until April right away, for one.

When you see that we cannot get our Senators  and their staff members who may have been exposed tested you know we have a huge testing problem.  The look back at the lack of urgency and preparedness by the Trump Administration is going to make Katrina look like a precision exercise.

Sadly it is the general simplistic concept "America First" that has landed us where we are today.  Normally we would have had epidemiologists on the front lines in China, we would have had the President standing alongside other world leaders several weeks ago.  There would have been a coordinated response INITIATED by the President of the Unites States taking the lead.  This is an impossibility with President Trump because most world leaders do not trust him.  So here we are, Ted Cruz is not isolating himself some two weeks after having contact with an infected person at C-Pac and neither he nor his staff have been tested for the virus yet.  Clusterfuck!

Japan had a pretty big incentive to get it under control or report that they've got it under control. Although at this point, Japan's response isn't going to make a shit.

We'll know in about 2 weeks if we're fucked

I'm curious to know how that rumor got started.  Doctor Pablo Garcia of the Cartagena Clinical Research Lab?

It honestly makes more sense though than the dipshits who still think it's caused by Corona Beer.

It's so sad and pathetic that the President actually believes he can tweet this shit away.  It's the first fucking time he had to deal with any crisis that he did was not personally largely responsible for.  His message is don't worry, trust a man that lies, and help me try and keep the economy up enough to get reelected. The reincarnation of Baghdad Bob, except as President of the Unites States.

People keep saying this like people in Puerto Rico didn’t needlessly suffer or die from exec incompetence and neglect after the hurricane.

Yeah but it's the first time white people are going to die because of his incompetence. It doesn't count when it's Puerto Ricans or brown kids at the border

Real Estate development/investing is largely about finance, whether some want to admit it or not.  Finance, and I never liked this next subject, is largely about maths.

How can this guy pretend to be so rich and successful in a field so dependent on finance/math and not be able to understand the difference on mortality rates?

Somebody just show him the stat on how many americans get the flu ever year (and then go back and count the ones that get it 2-3x/year).  So add up and call that "total American cases of Flu" for him (he won't be able to add up the numbers).  Then divide that 27,000 into it or whatever halfway number you wanna take there and tell him that's the mortality rate.  Then either show him what that rate means in terms of total number of Covid-19 cases, meaning if that same flu-like mortality holds for this virus, then Mr. President---it means we have this many more cases out there we don't know about.  Or, what'll likely happen is he sees that the mortality rate is much higher for this virus than the flu and that's why so many of us are puzzled by his continued response.

I'm serious, some fucking doctor or health official---get your ass on FoxNews under the guise of talking about being prepared at home with supplies or some shit.  And then just do the math real quick on the show with a little posterboard.  Either we have way more cases than we don't know about based on his flu mortality talking point, or that rate is much higher for this virus.  What is readily apparently, no matter which side you fall on, is that according to basic arithmetic you can show on TV easily---it's not both only here in low numbers and only has the mortality rate of the flu.  But the same fucking people over and over again saying the same anti-Trump shit questioning his leadership and ethics and mental state and racism/nationalism and all this other shit.  Just use his tweet numbers in a quick 45-second exercise on FoxNews or have bloomberg buy an add where you just cut and paste Trump's own data into a smart phone calculator on TV and it quickly shows either we are woefully under-tested for the virus right now or gonna lose a lot more people to it.

So fucking simple, quit attacking Trump's leadership or grasp of science/critical thinking (it just makes him and his voters dig their heels in, which is usually funny-but we need action now for lives are at stake), and just ask why he can't use his own numbers to do basic division.  Laugh all you want at his voters, but they'll at least see in concrete actuality---that he doesn't understand the severity of this.  Nope, instead we'll just focus on why Pence is dumb and why his border security claims are false.  Most of the country doesn't give a shit about that stuff.  The President tells us that this is a lesser deal than the flu with fewer people suffering from it.  Use his math.

You just put more thought and effort into your post in 10 minutes than trump will for the entire crisis.

I can appreciate that, but the blow to the confidence his followers have in him would suffer, IMHO, if he was shown to not understand the basic division currently being done by their 8-year old child across the room at the dinner table doing homework.  They believe him when he says he's an expert in meteorology, biology, virology, aerospace, etc.  Because they don't know anything about those topics so of course, they'll believe.

I'm talking about a simple 30-second math exercise with the numbers he's beaten into their fucking heads and you can show them how to do it either long form on paper or on their smart phone basic calculator.  Trump's great math shows us this is actually how many people have the virus in the U.S. based on the low mortality rate...When they see that number, they'll know it's big because it'll have lots of commas.  Or use the current global mortality rate and say, this is how many more people have to die.  And even that markedly smaller number will still shock them.  You can't just say the numbers to them.  They won't believe you.  Anybody in sales or ever had a small child knows, you gotta let the person arrive at the answer themselves for there to be true buy-in.  And all they are hearing from any side not their own is "He's an idiot, this is his fault, his arrogance brought us to this."  They won't listen to that.  They won't even listen to the end numbers that are plain as day.  You gotta let them watch it happen step by step, preferably joining in the exercise, and see the two numbers for what they truly are.  Trump keeps sending the numbers out via twitter, let's play car salesman and "see what the numbers do"

He's forgetting that tiny little point that there's normally a vaccine for the flu that you can get. Whether it works with a particular strain is an issue but there's at least some form of safe guards each year. Or if you get the flu and are diagnosed early enough, you can get Tamiflu which lessens the severity of the symptoms.

he doesn't read. he couldn't tell you the first thing about any major events in world history. he knows absolutely nothing and has zero desire to learn about anything. he's a complete and utter moron.

and he's got @Johnny Sack's vote!

Yeah, we all know that.  My point is most macro topics he discusses on TV and on twitter are already beyond the range of his base's understanding.  So of course they accept what he says.  This exercise which could be sent out via some famous leftist actor or singer with 100mm twitter followers.  It would take 2-3 tweets.  Shows the math, or encourages followers to plug his numbers into their smart phone calculator (not the HP 12c, just their stock one) and see how many we actually have or how many we will actually lose all based on his latest tweets.  When they see that number on their own screen that they trust more than their spouse, they'll at least have some inkling he doesn't exactly grasp this

It's a fucking start at least because all he's done is listen to the fervor and frustration and just doubled down on his strategy because that's what his supporters think.  Most of them are lost for another generation or more, but I still believe a good number of them will see what his math tells them is way different.  It's something to try anyway with some popular twitter account or somebody on FoxNews with a dry erase board.  Because whatever else is being tried right now ain't fucking working.  You want CDC virologists to contradict him in some language his voters can understand?  Yeah, let's keep trying that...aces so far.

You're playing the wrong game.

Former Director of National Economic Council:

Quote

“If this crisis lasts another week or two, we should bail out the airlines,” said Cohn, who added that government assistance would help prevent major layoffs.

Cohn called the Fed’s decision for an emergency rate cut ineffective.

You can’t fight an emotional and psychological war with financial easing,” Cohn said.

This isn't about math, or public health, or even really about basic economic factors.  This is about convincing people it's all okay.

And I will disagree with you that real estate development is all about the math of finance.  Trump doesn't work a spreadsheet for financing.  He works people.  He convinces them that it's all okay.  He's convinces them that they are going to win.  This will be the greatest (fill in the blank) that's every been.  That's how he gets his money.  That's how he gets rezoning, permits, and tax incentives.  That's the only game Trump knows and that's what he's playing now.
