That was not a good season finale, I agree that it feels a lot like GOT when they ran out of book material.

But supposedly this is all in the game as is the next season when it switches to Abby's story. Beyond season 3 will be new territory.

Watched season one and dug the shit out of it, so I played through the games for the first time before season two came out. TLOU Part 2 is a top 3 all-time gaming experience for me; after I finished it hung with me for weeks. My wife HATES to watch me play anything and she sat through to the bitter end just for the cutscenes. I get how others might not have had the same experience as us, but for some reason that game was damn near perfect and I’m glad I got to share it with my wife who felt similarly.

I’ll keep watching the next seasons just because. I’ll remain thankful that I still have that first experience with the game to think back on. The show can’t change that.

Last thing: I can’t fathom why the creator of the game took part in taking the most resonant motivations of the game and neutered them. Adding in the Chernobyl guy and it got even worse? Make it make sense.

Think Bella Ramsey’s ability as an actor or looks are the least of the issues. She is fed lines that make her character unlikeable and unwatchable. She could be the female Daniel Day-Lewis and it wouldnt save this garbage.

that may have honestly been the absolutely stupidest 45 mins of television I have ever fucking seen.

I cant handle Deus Ex Machina happening over and fucking over.

I get its a show about zombies, and I know its based off of a previously written script for the damn game.

I also get that its presented for entertainment, but I need some semblance of basic fucking reality and following some normal rules of living.

  Reveal hidden contents

Ellie being so fucking dumb as to try and attack SIX fully armed wolves to try and save a random scar "kid" not once, or twice, but 3 fucking times, until Jesse has to physically hold her back.

The rogue wave in Elliot Bay/Puget Sound was insanely wrong, followed by a fully clothed Ellie- carrying a heavy backpack falling into the water, which at its warmest in AUGUST is never warmer than 54 fucking degrees,

and her swimming to the land, while not showing a single sign of hypothermia, while we get to see the boat continuing onto the beach (and its motor stopping while on the beach without ruining the propellor), only to be immediately captured by a group of the zealots.

A scar group that obviously believes shes a fucking Wolf and rather than just fucking leave the rope wrapped around a tree, and hang her... or just gut her immediately, they hear their village under attack and choose option 3---- leave the fucking wolf alive, unhurt, and able to just walk/boat away?????

I cant fathom that level of writer stupidity.

Thank you.  My biggest pet peeve of this show as well.

I’m out on the show.  I loved season 1.  This season was trash.  The final episode didn’t even have a single infected in the storyline.  Not even going to bother watching season 3… who the fuck cares about Abby.  More Joel and more infected is what this season needed.

I'm not going to stop watching it. I enjoyed a lot of this season, but did not like the finale at all and don't like the direction things are heading, and that is before I found out the first 3 episodes of S3 are going to be from Abby's perspective.

This show is clearly not following a typical roadmap and following the video game and it's cool and interesting to do things in an unorthodox style every once in awhile. We don't need to have a straightforward linear plot with clear protagonists and antagonists. That said I really am starting to feel a bit lost with the way Ellie has been portrayed and the interjecting of other random characters who within two episodes of being introduced are now making you wonder if they are the new main character.

I'm a child of the 80s so I definitely skew to the side of having a plot arc of good vs bad and good wins but at this point I would love to see the series end in this fashion.

Ellie stops acting like a dumbass 10 year old and bosses up. She kills Abby or doesn't, I don't really care. The WLFs and the Scars kill each other I don't care. Dina dies or doesn't, I don't care. Dina's baby carries immunity/the cure. Ellie and Tommy team up and kill the zombies. Party in Jackson Hole.

I do not need 3 episodes in the mind of Abby, a character who seems like she was invented halfway through this season.

Whatever, we'll see where it goes in 2042 when the next season airs and we can all complain about why Ellie aged 24 years in 17 years.

The thing I had to do playing the game was give up on character and focus on story, narrative, theme, whatever you want to call it.

It was a bit of a shock, and it's a lot easier to do with an immersive video game. It's also difficult to do considering how HBO marketed season 2 with the constant Pedro+Bella buddy pressers.

If you're able to get past the characters and focus on the story being told, you might be in for something special. I played through the first game probably 5 times and played through the second game only once (it was a loooong game). I can't say that the game's story ended the way I wanted it to, but I will say that 5 years later it has stuck with me and 5 years later, it's still making me think, and in my opinion, that's good storytelling.

Good take- she’s a really good actor and regardless of the fact that she’s not conventionally attractive the camera really likes her face, which is true for a lot of actors.*

Her problem is that what I’ve seen so far is bad dialogue and bad story telling.

* Quite a few film and TV actors have a real uncanny valley look that draws the camera but would be strange and unsettling in another context. I’ve been in a room with Olivia Wilde and the structure of her face is so unusual that she looks like she’s on a slightly different evolutionary path. Same thing with Austin Butler. Anna Kendrick looks extremely fragile, etc.
Neither are unattractive, per se, they just look sort of human-adjacent

Good camera work can do amazing things. Most people don't even know that Tom Cruise is really 4'2" with an 8" nose.

A Kaitlyn Dever led season should be better than what we just got but the dialogue needs to improve

So the character who’s been Scappy Dooing S2 is going to elevate the show? Like late stage GOT, we get characters describing other characters as brilliant or fierce, and when you see them in action you see none of those things.

I have so many issues with this season.

1.  As mentioned about Scar Island/the Aquarium.   I fucking hate when TV/Movies use a literal place (like Seattle) and then fuck up the geography.  Plus, even if Ellie washes up on an island in that kind of weather, she's probably dead.  The closest island to Pier 59 is Bainbridge and that's 10 miles away.  Plus, haven't the Scars eschewed technology?  So how are they way the fuck over there and then getting over to Seattle proper?  And why are they even doing so?  Seems like staying on Bainbridge and not dealing with the WLF at all would be the best course of action.  Finally, Isaac's boat come out the south and head north to wherever their going.  The closest heavily wooded area on the water going north would be Discovery Park and that's 8+ miles away.  So the Scar's are basecamping 7-8 miles north of downtown?  That's 2-4 hours of walking.   Ellie, Dina and Jesse "escape" into a park after Jesse finds them.  WTF?

2.  Item two on the Aquariam.  The land where the Aquariam sits is about 400-500 feet from a very, very large incline/hill @ Western Avenue.   The show has the Aquariam way the fuck out in Elliott Bay.   If the area between the Aquariam and Alaskan Way/Western Avenue was under water, then the Aquarium and Wheel are under water as well.

3. The WLF have set up at Lumen Field.   That could explain why Isaac's Navy came from the south.  But that puts Discovery Park close to 10 miles north.  Those little boats are going that far in that weather?   Which bring me to...

4.  Where the fuck are the WLF getting gasoline from?  According to the game, it's been 25 years since the outbreak.  Even if it had only been 5 years, gas isn't going to do shit.  Seattle isn't exactly known for it's oil fields and refineries.

5.  When Joel send Ellie back to get the horses.  They left them on top of the hill because the switchbacks would take too long to get down.  They thought they had an hour or two before Eugene changed.   Ellie had time to get back up those switchbacks and then down?  While leading another horse that would take even more time?  Their initial descent would have taken 10-15 minutes minimum.   By the time they found Eugene he was already a dead man.   He wasn't making it back to Jackson.

6.  I realize it's an integral part of the whole story line but Ellie's thirst for revenge just keeps getting people killed.

I realize I am arguing points about a TV show where mushrooms have infected people but still.

Final thought from earlier in the season.  Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to use flamethrowers in a town surrouned by a wooden fence?   And who thought an all wood fence was the best idea?   I realize Jackson wouldn't exactly have foundry to make steel plates but there had to be a better solution.

Fuck this season and finale right in its ear hole. shows that rely on cliffhangers like that are garbage, ya breaking bad I’m looking at you too. If the story, actors, and characters are good enough they don’t need cliffhangers to bring the audience back

M’eh. A good cliff hanger can work. This one isn’t that.

Agreed.

Season 3 Finale:

Jesse accidentally kills Gale, a pivotal event that impacts Gus Fring's power and Walt's own future.

vs.

Walt makes a sandwich . . . fade to black.

Got any extra 9mm for my .357 revolver?

She has two pistols. She's had them all season. She wears a holster on each leg.

After being dunked in the ocean, the revolver was easier to dry out, so she did. She didn't dry out the 9MM.

It's not that hard to watch a show and actually, you know, observe what's going on.

For the bolded, the game/show is known for fucking up geography.

From the first scene of the game/episode of the show:

It's one thing for road signs to be wrong.   It's entirely different when the geography doesn't make sense.  Somethign else stood out to me too...   Did the streets in Seattle seem very narrow, almost European?

Also very unfortunate they hit Seattle during one of its <10 days of thunderstorms per yr

No shit.   I forgot about that.  When I moved back to Texas in 2010 the Macanudo-ettes were 5 and 3.  We had just spent three years in 40 mile south of downtown Seattle and they had both been born in Alaska before that.  They had never been in a thunderstorm.
