I mean, it's not her "official" account but I think an argument could be used that she's using this, her personal account, in a public capacity which blurs the line.

Yeah, this is her official account:

https://twitter.com/mk6atx

Also, I think the Proud Boys stuff was just an accident - she stumbled into a photo op, and some of them jumped in.  I don't think she's hanging with that crowd - somebody is guiding her a bit and helping her steer clear of some things.  @Bozo_Casanova or somebody can correct me.

Ya’ll are actually making me feel sorry for her.  I know she’s an attention whore and quite possibly a psychopath but jeez…

Yeah, and people can say plenty of stuff without getting into defamation, or at the very least making her out to be a victim.

Yeah, I'm fully aware that's her official account, but I'm not so sure her connection to the Proud Boys and other groups is so innocuous. As you may recall, there was that incident when those bikers went hard after her opponent, Jimmy Flannigan, trying to physically intimidate him at the park or wherever during the election. Those were the same ones in the photo with the Proud Boys and her in front of City Hall. It wasn't an accident, and she got a total pass on that.

She's likely getting some coaching, but basically she's being herself - she wants to be liked, she listens, she cares about outcomes and she works hard. Council is the best job she's ever had and she takes it seriously. Imagine that!
Council (and elected office in general) is a shit job. Seriously a terrible job. The pay is shit, the hours are horrible and you're constantly subjected to the combined opinions and actions of abject morons (see above bikers, Proud Boys and Don Z) and the worst people in the city (worse than the aforementioned even). If we wanted a good council (or good anything) we would double the pay but we won't and we don't, so we get what we get.
Kelly does things for something close to the the right reasons. I don't necessarily agree with her, but she's better than we deserve and it's close enough for me.

I'm sorry, but I don't give her a pass on her association with those groups and in my previous post what they did. She didn't apologize or voice concerns so far as I know. Plus, there's her long, well-known history of being a damn liar.

Oh I remember, I think I posted the photo, but from what I remember, the PB idiots jumped in at the last minute - she was hanging with the bikers (which was wrong in and of itself).

I am kind of leaning towards what Bozo_Casanova said - she's been fairly careful. If she were truly hanging with that crowd, we would know it.  She, or whoever is helping her, seems to have a grasp on what not to do.  She's taken and posted a hellova lot of photos with people from all sides of the political spectrum. She's definitely treating this like the best job she's ever had.

I honestly expected after December of 2020, that this thread would be fully of entertaining new gaffes every week, but nope.

If we doubled the pay, it would be interesting.

I'm not suggesting an "instead of" interpretation. I'm suggesting "that, and." It's extremely unlikely that I would ever vote for her if I could, and much like Ellen Troxclair I think she would be the servant of malign actors at a higher level. She pals around with Ted Cruz, for example. But on the Austin City Council, she's OK and nowhere near the worst. That's all I'm saying.

I'm not disagreeing about her past, but she seems to have some kind of spider-sense after taking the job.

It made the local news, and I can't find the original livestream, but the PBs did jump in, and the bikers, the Travis County GOP, the police, and Kelly's campaign all said those two dudes jumped in at the last moment, and they had nothing to do with them.

https://www.kxan.com/news/local/austin/claims-of-white-pride-and-safety-threats-sifting-through-spin-in-the-austin-city-council-district-6-runoff/

Quote

In KXAN’s previous coverage about this photo, Wind Therapy Freedom Riders said the day the photo was taken, the WTFrs “Re-fund the Police” rally happened to run into a “Recall Mayor Adler” rally, and both groups mixed together. WTFrs told KXAN the men in the photo who held up the “Okay” sign were not invited to the rally, not part of their group, and photobombed the group without their knowledge (the moments right before the photo was taken can be viewed near the 38:50 mark on the live stream video WTFrs posted).

Quote

Andy Hogue, Kelly’s campaign manager, and Travis County Republican Party Communications chair, gave a similar explanation for why the individuals holding up the “Okay” sign wound up in the photo. Hogue emphasized Kelly did not pose in the photo with the people who held up the hand signs.

“There was a large group photo being taken of a peaceful demonstration supporting funding the police and nothing more,” Hogue said. “The people in question jumped into the far left-hand side of the crowd outside of the candidate’s field of vision, as plainly demonstrated by the photo.”

Quote

At a candidate forum this week, when Flannigan brought up Kelly’s participation in the group photo on Nov. 1, she said, “I do not stand with white nationalists, I do not support racism, and the circumstances regarding the photo that he is speaking about is such that I did not know that those people were present.”

Yeah, she took a photo with Owen Shroyer (whom she may not have known) at a meet the candidate event (along with a lot of other people), and she had PMed various people during her Take Back Austin/campaign stuff, including a PB, but since she's gotten in office, like I said, she's denounced all of these people, and she's somehow avoiding them.

Which is why I think she's being managed/guided/something (or it's the spideysense).

i mean, make fun of her all you want, but she's trying. i don't agree with a lot of her politics, to the extent that she really has any real principles that aren't wrapped up in someone's, anyone's approval, but i have to be honest: compare and contrast her performance with the rest of the council over the past decade.

or to the extent that it is easy to sit back and criticize from the cheap seats, which almost everyone does. at all levels, local, state & federal

Yeah, at least there's (apparent) engagement and responsiveness to constituents and a presence in the city. Like I mentioned above, Ellis is fucking useless and won't return calls, emails, requests from carriers pigeons or anything. Next time we see her out in the community will be on milk carton at HEB.

To be honest, we're just all really pissed off that we didn't think to run for Austin City Council.

She's a lying narcissist. It was just a matter of time before she found her calling as a council member.

She's a pathological liar. It's not like that changed when she got into politics.

Look at some of the characters we have in the highest levels of national politics.  Everything in her past aligns perfectly well with what America is willing to elect these days.  She recognized that before we did.  You guys can expose whatever you want but nobody gives a shit.  She’s an idiot but her past is not a problem and never will be.

Agree. My problem is more with the bigger picture than her.

Not surprisingly, she found her way in front of a camera again today, essentially reading a police report.  Lead story on KXAN 6:00 news so the online link isn't up yet, but she found some wonderful lighting that couldn't highlight her lump any better if she actively tried to show it off.

If you caught her after 3-4 drinks at Balcones Country Club or The Mill Bar and Grill, she'd still suck your dick for $1000.

Still? How many grand have you spent on her?

She is sharing the wonders of the cemetery budget with everybody!

As somebody who has put people in the cemetery who has done a lot of genealogical research at cemeteries and is familiar with the people (blue-hairs) who are super interesting in cemetery issues, she has to tread a little carefully - those older folks can get mighty touchy and raise a lot of hell.

More than a dozen new Austin police officers will begin patrolling the streets this weekend.

The Austin Police Department honored 19 APD cadets who graduated from the police academy Friday.

All the Austin bigwigs were there for it.

Honestly, with as many people who have done such stuff in recent years....that trend really IS going to spread.

I ain't got no problem with it.  You do you.  And, Ms. Gibson seems quite lovely.

There's a lot of stupid in that article, which is essentially just parroting her team's spin on the issue, starting with the fact that revenge porn laws were not intended to and do not remotely apply in this situation.   It is an excellent demonstration of why it is stupid to attack someone for this type of thing, however.  Her response was complete and utter nonsense, but it's the type of nonsense voters will eat up.  Flannigan was smart to leave Kelly's past alone or he would have been facing his own "how dare you" response.  Gibson's reaction is still priceless, though.  "How dare you try and hurt my family!" You're the one who fucked on camera for some extra cash and then decided you wanted to be a public leader, lady.  You and your husband's choices did this to your family, not your opponent.

I don't give a shit if someone sucked cock for money at one point or another and I don't think it should be a disqualifier for office on its own, but I'm not completely unmoved by the argument that it demonstrates a lack of basic decision-making and long term strategic thinking - both skills I would prefer my elected representatives to possess.  I'm also not impressed with her victimhood response.  If she had just owned it and told people to fuck off she would have my respect.   But victimhood sells, baby.

She had an opportunity to say “sex work is work” and she was even insulated by the fact that it was all done with her consenting husband. Lean in and bring the message of normalizing sex work, and shed even be in line with a lot of progressives.

Acting appalled this came to light bc she ran for public office is incredibly dumb.

Not as dumb as fitlump getting elected, but dumb.
