If you had a picosecond of virtue you would realize that Ralph S. Baric who was Fauci's right hand man during the Gain of Function research published an article on pub med that said if you wanted to stop an RNA virus dead in it's tracks you needed zinc and a zinc ionophore and he published it in 2010.

It's literally RIGHT FUCKING HERE: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21079686/

That you did not take zinc and something like Epigallocatechin Gallate is demonstrable proof you are a low thinking idiot.

Have a good day!

lot to unpack in this thread lol

as far as zinc I absolutely took a ton of zinc in the early days of Covid. I think 50 BID. Shit is rough on the GI tract but I was ready to try anything

but the study you are quoting was in vitro. There is no way to know if cellular uptake of dietary zinc would reach the needed concentration to achieve the same effect. Also the study used pyrithione. pyrithione zinc has long been used as a topical antimicrobial, but to my knowledge it is toxic if ingested.

I found no published studies of in vitro or in vivo using zinc and ecgc. Do you have a link?

75% non sequitur incoming …. There’s a mice study for zinc, C and Quercetin cocktail stopping cytokine storms, I don’t recall if the same cytokines they stop are the same from Covid.

I can’t remember the longhorns message board scene being in a worse place.  Maybe late stage hornfans but there were still so many more posters and so many better posters. The Longhorns message board is in a very bad place when the football board is one of the more tolerable forums.  Not imma’s fault but the board is struggling and will likely continue to decline unless we win a football title which may attract some new blood.

I don’t post much at all but I’ve been here and the other site quite a while.

I come here for football/movie, tv and book discussion and to find out if Kevin still thinks a monkey wouldn’t fuck him up.

I’ve followed hilarious, heartwarming and heartbreaking threads here and tried to contribute. I think this is still a vibrant and interesting community.

I have very strong and somewhat well informed opinions on this current administration and politics in general. From my understanding they would align with many in the cloak room.

That being said, I wouldn’t go CR for all the fucking tea in China. Political discourse is the most valid (imho) when there’s ownership and actual representation of the person making the argument. Otherwise it can be indistinguishable from bots or trolls.  I feel bad for folks who don’t know when they might be being played.

For what it’s worth I think imma does a reasonably good job as a mod, and I’m not a fan of long, rambling posts so my bad.

So its working. Easy to avoid if you don't want to participate. I don't spend much time on the Hobbies board because it seems like an echo chamber for a bunch of fucking nerds.

I don't even think a title would do it. We were close against this year and there's a lot to be excited about football wise and a lot to discuss for next year.

Right now shit is bad. The news cycle is dominated by some pretty drastic and polarizing stuff. We just need shit to calm down and be funny.

I wonder if this year Cloak Room will pass the Football Board. We’re getting old.

The travel space is valuable-  There's pretty much no place stateside that you cannot get objective  recs and info on eateries and things to do, without a bunch of bullshit to sift through.

I've vented/ commented about some pretty freaking personal stuff in "Can you help me" or IPIHB through the years.  For all of our shit-talking and grabassery, there is a core group of posters that care about others in here.  The feedback has helped a lot.  Hopefully I've been able to pay that back, in-kind.  That community is, dare I say, special.

Maybe we don't drive much new content, but those are elements that make Surly unique, IMHO.

This might be fair but honestly the rest of the internet has really enshittified lately. I used to be addicted to reddit. I may visit once a day - if that - now. It's turned to total shit.

I like Surly - because frankly - there isn't anywhere else I've found like it. Maybe it was better 10 or 15 years ago or whatever but even if it was (rose-tinted glasses and all that) where the fuck else am I going to get the same mix of various sports discussions, Longhorns or not, and pop-culture and just general degeneracy?

This community is worth holding on to.

There’s a lot of truth here. I’m finding outside of sports on tv that books are increasing in appeal as every internet outlet with social interaction seems to be going rancid. I don’t find television and movies to be much better tbqh.

Great minds and all, as I have been trying to get back into reading physical books.  I haven't done so in....well im ashamed to say how long but let's just say I have two kids in single digits and I am the primary caregiver in my home.  So if I sit down for more than 15 mins, I usually doze off or let my eyes glaze over while watching the same reel of a cat sneezing funny on insta.  One of my resolutions this year was to read at least 5 physical books, across a few genres.  Wanting to start with something history related that isnt too dry and can be a bit of a pageturner.  Any reccs? (i know this is off-topic slightly, so feel free to insult my lineage and physical characteristics).

I'm sure there is a book thread somewhere in Hobbies.

There’s an entire book subforum.

last book i finished was On Juneteenth by Annette Gordon-Reed, she's a native Texan, black woman and historian. She's a lovely woman, brillant, and tells a great story. Her book is short and offers an alternative view of Texas history while both critiquing and embracing the Texas mystic. an easy and short read, one that also is easy to consume via audio books.  I'm currently reading Why Fish Don't Exist by Lulu Miller and it has some gems but I'm only 20% through it so I cannot vouch for it entirely. I'm also reading the Gay Place which is a fiction book loosely based on LBJ as if he were the governor of Texas. A must read for Texans I'm told.

Man I’m trying to get myself into an actual book reading (not book listening while I clean at night) habit just to model that shit with the kids. Holding a book, reading quietly.

No luck yet but we’ll do it.

it's hard, our brains are strung out on screens, they just are. turning on quiet music and reading a physical book is so freaking good for our mental health. It's hard to describe. even if it's only 10-15 minutes and 3 pages, it's a start. I'm in the same boat trying to force it.

I have already read more books in the 1.5 months of 2025 than I did the past two years combined.

I can see where this would be true for a lot of people. I've been a book reader basically my whole life though, even the interwebs can't pry me away from reading.

My ex is a rabid book reader … I lost my way years ago because half my day I read dense documents for work. Add social media and most have been swept out to social media sea. I am getting it back slowly tho.

Main thing is it allows you to close the door in the evenings to the outside world. I am throughly convinced one of the major problems is we just don’t get a break from it all unless we are intentional about it and most aren’t.

I'm on the road a lot for work, but I love to go eat by myself- unrushed, wherever I want.  Just time for me.  No phones, no ipad, no nothin. Just quiet time and taking in the atmosphere.  I think it serves a similar function to what you describe.

Fuck that reading though, j/k.

This thread got started when the mods let one of the "hooray the government is shooting protesters" threads get out of hand during the 2020 summer and fall of love. Jimmy didn't make this thread or title - Immamac did lol.

The mods memory holed a bunch of abhorrent shit in the DT thread because it would have been extremely embarrassing for some of the posters to keep up, and moved a bunch of posts complaing about the mods into this new thread
