One of Europe's most senior politicians recounted how former U.S. President Donald Trump privately warned that America would not come to the EU's aid if it was attacked militarily.

"You need to understand that if Europe is under attack we will never come to help you and to support you," Trump told European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in 2020, according to French European Commissioner Thierry Breton, who was also present at a meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

"By the way, NATO is dead, and we will leave, we will quit NATO," Trump also said, according to Breton. "And he added, ‘and by the way, you owe me $400 billion, because you didn’t pay, you Germans, what you had to pay for defense,'" Breton said about the tense meeting, where the EU's then-trade chief Phil Hogan was also present.

Breton told the anecdote at an event in the European Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday, just days before the Republican Party holds its January 15 caucus in Iowa, the opening contest in Trump's bid to win the Republican nomination for a run at returning to the White House. Party members will cast their votes for candidates including Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who both trail way behind the ex-president in opinion polls.

Brussels is rife with fear about the possibility Trump will return to the U.S. presidency.

As the commissioner in charge of the EU's industrial policy and defense agenda, Breton has pushed for the EU to boost its own self-defense capabilities amid Russia's war in Ukraine, and on Tuesday floated a €100 billion fund to ramp up arms production in the bloc.

"That was a big wake-up call and he may come back," Breton said about Trump. "So now more than ever, we know that we are on our own, of course. We are a member of NATO, almost all of us, of course we have allies, but we have no other options but to increase drastically this pillar in order to be ready [for] whatever happens.”

What were the chances that the slots at Trump’s casinos were rigged?

Well they were made in Venezuela.  Of course, being a complete moron, he probably had them rigged the wrong way so the guests would win more than they should have.  Seriously, how in the fuck do you bankrupt a casino twice?  Outside of a Treasury Dept. printing press, it's literally the next easiest way to just legally create money.  I get that people were fooled by his real estate mogul persona and then his heavily edited realty TV show about business.  But I mean, even the stupids have to question him at some point and think, "Yeah, how do you not make money on water, vodka, wine, steaks, books, and gambling?"

trump will ask for time off from his trials to attend the funeral in Elbonia, and never come back to the US

I hear it's cold there this time of year.  Melania better take a coat.

You're right.  I bestow an MD on you, from Trump University.

I expect you will see a bunch of countries develop nukes since they realized that America is now an undependable ally depending on who is in the White House.  That Trump has a chance to regain the presidency at all is a testament to the fact that everyone needs to prepare for a time that America does not honor it's previous commitments and nuclear protection. The easiest way to make sure you are never seriously messed with is to develop your nuclear capabilities. I am sure Ukraine has been kicking themselves since 2014 for turning over their old USSR nukes.

Trump has a brutus in his camp. No way in hell does a competent staff let the candidate walk out looking like this ….

It's sounding like the trip was last minute, after DeSantis began mocking him for hanging out in Florida instead of Mar-a-Lago

Ron DeSantis fired an arctic blast at Donald Trump, saying his rival 'phoned it in' from Mar-a-Lago as the Florida governor got back on Iowa's icy roads to meet with supporters still digging out from a blizzard amid a biting wind chill and sub-zero temperatures.

‘We’re not stopping. I do have my winter coat. We have other layers. I know it’s going to get even colder,' DeSantis told supporters after speaking to a crowd of supporters in Council Bluffs, with the outside temperature at -5.

Quote

‘We’re in, we’re showing up. Donald Trump has phoned it in. He’s going to be in Mar-a-Lago. It’s probably 75 degrees there,' he sneered. 'We’re going to be at negative temperatures talking, making the case to Iowa voters Monday night,' he said.

Trump's going to be pissed over this:

Quote

He also accused Trump of running on 'his issues' and says his focus will be on 2020, not the future. 'If he would be the nominee, the focus will be on the legal issues. The criminal trials on criminal convictions, January 6, all of that plays into the Democrats' hands, into Biden's hands or whoever they end up running,' he said.
