Goodson was a few years younger. Derrick didn’t make it long. He was kicked out of Aggy for having pit bulls in the dorms.

Nobody is ever going to accuse aggy of having a real good time

Cap would just be another thing for the SEC to circumvent.

Yeah, that is just an incomplete thought process. A cap would bring us right back where we started with teams using street agents and tax evasion to funnel money to players. I think in the future most bullshit (Nike/Oregon) will happen in broad daylight.

Save money from what, these dudes don’t have time for a 9 to 5.
Lol, you beat me to it. But yeah, anyone who thinks these kids buy their own cars have no idea how much of a time sink playing a sport at the college level (any sport) while still trying to attend classes really is. It's possible some of them had cars paid for by their parents/relative or family friend who wants to have an "in" on the D1 athlete/NFL life, but tbh thats not very likely.

So these kids will hire lawyers to help them with contracts, taxes, finding endorsements... There must be a very fine line between this and being a sports agent. An agent with a law license?

The idea and the pitch is that the schools will handle that shit for them.

Look man, I don’t think lawyer fees and west coast state tax rates are being pitched to these recruits. Stop trying to negative recruit.

Mike at Night: Moving timelines and July visits

Mike Roach

Spoiler

Mike at Night: Moving timelines and July visits

Mike Roach

— Texarkana Texas High edge rusher Derrick Brown announced today that he would be pushing his decision back a bit. As I mentioned in last night's Mike at Night, this is a good development for Texas. Though the Longhorns had early momentum in June, Baylor was trending heavily in the last few weeks. As I've mentioned in the past, Brown is very impressionable, and the further he got from his Texas visit, the worse it was going to be for them. I'd expect Texas to work to get Brown back to Austin for an unofficial trip at the end of July to try and close the deal.

— Fellow east Texan Jeremy Patton also expressed a desire to change his timeline, but unlike Brown, he's moving his timeline forward. Baylor is also in that race, and there is some thought that both Patton and Brown could go to the same school together. While they've talked about it before, I was told that Patton will likely make the best decision for himself and nobody else. Sources on the Michigan side expressed some optimism yesterday, but just about everyone I talked to expects him to stay home. Texas has been in constant contact and working to close the deal lately. Patton will make his decision in late July or early August, and Texas wants to get him back to Austin with his mother who wasn't able to accompany him on his official visit.

— Four-star safety Bryce Anderson told me today that he will be at Texas on July 30 once the dead period opened again. He will also visit Texas A&M on July 31. This has become a close race since Jimbo Fisher became personally invested in landing Anderson, but Texas is still very much in the thick of it. This has gone back and forth over the month of June and as each team jockeys for position. One source we spoke to on the A&M side still feels Texas holds a slight edge at the moment, but these July visits will add more intrigue to the race.

— Four-star Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei WR C.J. Williams will make his decision before the season after naming a Top 5 of Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas, Stanford and USC. Going into the summer, Notre Dame was the leader behind the scenes, but I think Texas has been able to make a move to make it close. It feels like the Irish still hold the edge, but sources I've spoken with don't think anything is decided for sure and they feel Texas is definitely still in the mix. Williams had a strong official visit to Austin, and the Longhorns offer everything he's looking for in a school. Texas has to do some more work, but they aren't out of the picture.

— I had to applaud former Texas staffer Ra'Shaad Samples for making some big waves in Dallas landing four-star Garland safety Chace Biddle today after picking up four-star Garland WR Jordan Hudson. There were very strong sources indicating Biddle would end up at TCU, but Samples never gave in and was ultimately rewarded. His reputation as a recruiter has been able to take him to great heights at SMU, and for anyone thinking it might be easy to hire away, think again. Samples is very happy to be in his hometown. He's recruiting the kids he wants and is the face of a movement for the Ponies. He was promoted and given a nice raise as the Mustangs made a substantial investment in him, and he just recently bought a house in the same neighborhood with his parents and other family members. To put it simply, I think Samples' next move will be to take a coordinator or head coach position.

Rattler signed with Leigh Steinberg to do his NIL deals and others have done similarly, there is literally no difference.

I think it’s pretty obvious what happened here. CTJ and SC got hammered and mistook each other for hot coeds in Jester. And thus began…

Give a bunch of 19 year old boys enough money to buy a corvette. What could go wrong?

We might have a couple players crashing their expensive sports cars every offseason oh wait that already happens (hi BJ and Demarvion!)

Hey man, Demarvion happened to find himself on an overpass in below freezing weather. Happens to the best of us.

Th SEC would create world peace if it gave them a leg up in recruiting. They're a bunch of redneck dipshits for the most part but the dedication is admirable.

So I am getting irritated when I keep reading about Jumbo getting personally involved with x recruit.  Is the reasonable deduction here that Sark is not getting involved?  If he is not then why the fuck not on these recruits that could make or break a class?  Since I choose to believe that that can’t be the case, it is a bullshit line from the 995ers.  Another possibility could be that Sark is involved but just not as effective as Jimbo.

in all scenarios i am not gruntled.

Just wondering if he takes them on a personal tour of the gloryholes in collie station?

Jimbo is extremely awkward. Tries to give off the ‘aw shucks’ vibe but ends up just talking 100 mph and saying the word “ball” a lot. Just listen to any of his interviews.

edit-to-add: nevermind, read position is Tight End. So, actually... do porn stars have tight ends?

Depends on how long they've been in the business...

They end up doing the Kool-Aid Man through someone’s kitchen like Sergio Kindle?

In my day I recall someone driving through the glasses store at Guadalupe and maybe 24th?  Seems like it was before the rice game and maybe a mike Adam’s involvement. Maybe a Pinckney?  Or that could all be bullshit to justify the loss (Which can’t be done). Any one else have this memory?

I thought Lovell Pinkney was going to do pretty well in the pros.
