Yes, SSRIs are to blame. We should definitely take everyone off of them. That will solve things. We should all respect Zeus' mental health opinions. He is clearly a top-notch psychiatrist.

The listed side effects with SSRIs are literally homicidal and suicidal thoughts.... I don't think it's a long term solution, especially giving them to younger people seems risky.

Good lord, you are dangerously stupid. I know several people who struggled with suicidal ideation and are only still with us (and not only that, but flourishing) because of SSRIs.

So you and your weird RFK-sycophant pseudoscientific bullshit can fuck right off. It’s assholes like you who will be responsible when good people spiral into depression and suicide because weird make-believe doctors decided that life-saving medications are evil.

Then do the same, except for part (1) count up the number of male mass shooters.

We’ll be waiting to read your findings.

We're too sick of a society to allow what is essentially unfettered access to guns. There's too much mental illness, despair, rage and instability in American society for people to have access to so many types of highly destructive weapons.  Semi-auto should be banned. We should even tougher requirements to own a shotgun. Mandatory training, background check and liability insurance.  Very few countries have a constitutional right to own firearms, but countries do frequently change their constitutions. We are the outlier, and our gun homicide rate dwarfs the rates in the UK, France, Germany and Netherlands. What's the difference?  We're bat shit fucking crazy and armed to the gills over here.

Yes, and we actually do have some sort of subsidized mental health care right now. It's mostly out-patient but they give you the meds for free until you can get your shit together.

Yes red flag laws as well, as long as they are seriously vetted and in good faith I agree with them completely.

When someone's actually seriously mentally ill it's usually a crisis event and not some type of long term thing, and they can be saved from hurting themselves or others by getting help immediately.

Glad you agree about red flag laws, but let me tell you from first hand experience- everything else is mostly wrong. I mean, we spend money on this stuff but what we do is in some ways worse than nothing. The largest provider of Mental Health services in Travis county and every other major urban area in this country is the county jail.

I'm so done trying to argue against these MAGA types that just literally live in an entirely different reality and bubble than the rest of the world. My FIL first response to this shooting? "Well why didn't they have the School Resource Officer guarding the door?" I mean... in what fucking world is that the response? He's an avid gun owner, responsible, at least, to his credit. But his nightly brainwashing by Fox is overly evident. He thinks trickle down economics have always worked, and that it isn't fair to tax the super rich, while having zero clue that the top marginal rates used to be 90% before their God King Version 1.0 (Reagan) showed up. Oh, and my favorite... "He and Epstein were never friends, they were just business associates, unlike Bill Clinton!"

Then you've got Zeus in here cherrypicking shootings and ignoring the hundreds (Yes, the USA has HUNDREDS of mass shootings every year), and instead picking... five to use for his stats. These are not serious people, and the discussions are never in good faith, because they're too stupid to even fathom (Zeus, fathom means to understand after giving something thought, saved you the google search) that they could be wrong or that their daily doses of Rush/Fox/etc are outright lying to them.

I don't have the energy to keep pushing back anymore or trying to correct. The damage to a large portion of our country is done, and there's no coming back from it.

Of course but the people in charge of Congress all fetishize their firearms. They don't want it to change because they only care about being able to own a gun. It wouldn't be difficult to litter this thread with Christmas cards of Republican legislators that have family portraits where even the kids are holding AR15s. They wear AR15 pins on their suits. They love the guns. They value the guns more than citizens. They don't give a shit about this other than to use it as a tool to point the finger at people they don't like such as immigrants, minorities, gays, and trans people. To them, it's easier just to ban all those people.

Also note to Zeus, which side do think pushes back on Red Flag laws? And anything passed isn't being held up by the gun friendly Supreme Court's right wing majority.

FBI statistics

They have a more narrow definition of mass shooting

I mean yeah in Chicago alone there's probably a hundred mass shootings a year by your definition (whatever that is). You didn't bother to give a definition or any statistics or anything...

193 House Republicans voted against the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which provides over $2.35 billion to expand vital school mental health services and improve learning environments. This is the most significant gun violence prevention law passed in 30 years.

202 House Republicans voted against the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, which helps keep guns out hands of people who are a danger to themselves or others. Senate Republicans have blocked background checks from even getting a vote.

201 House Republicans voted against a red flag bill that would create a federal procedure for law enforcement to intervene and prohibit people who are a danger to themselves or others from possessing a firearm.

210 House Republicans voted against the American Rescue Plan, which provided $12 billion to address mental health needs arising from the pandemic.

196 House Republicans voted against going after gun traffickers, which flood our communities with firearms used by criminals.

193 House Republicans voted against cracking down on the spread of ghost guns which are used by criminals and minors because they can be bought without a background check before President Biden took action to close that loophole through executive action.

Now imagine getting upset at those who mock the "thoughts and prayers" solution offered by the GOP. As opposed to those who are actively and intentionally allowing persons like this Minnesota shooter to acquire assault weapons.

I want the federal government to cease to exist because they've turned into a huge corrupt scam that aims to screw the middle class in every way conceivable. Whatever side that is, that's the side I'm on. Have a federation of states that contribute to a US Military and leave everything else to the states entirely. Stop having a federal central bank.

Civilians can still own automatic weapons if they were made before 1986.

Requirements:

Find one on the legal NFA registry (very limited supply).

Pay $200 federal transfer tax.

Go through FBI background check + ATF approval.

Wait (months, sometimes a year).

Hahaha. You’re even dumber than I thought. “Yup. Only been five mass shootings in Murca since 2023.” Case closed, Inspector Smoothbrain!

I don’t have time to do the math for you, but in the decade preceding and including the Hale incident, only 4 mass shooters identified as trans or nonbinary. That represented less than a tenth of a percent of all mass shooters during the period. A researcher at Columbia had a higher figure: a massive 1.3%!

This incident is one more. Even assuming no mass shootings occurred between the Hale event and this one (surely not accurate, but the assumption favors your case), that one additional data point wouldn’t move the needle.

Now, let’s talk about men generally. According to the Rockefeller Institute, 95% of mass shooters are male. Considering men represent slightly less than half of the US population, this is astounding. Men are nearly 20x more likely to perpetrate a mass shooting compared to women.

So tell me: if you wanted to most effectively reduce mass shootings by eliminating just one demographic category, which one would you pick?

As tragic as today’s mass shooting is, it’s not the worst thing that will happen to us. It’s only the latest of the worst. What makes it so, is our resolute devotion to guns in the face unimaginable violence. We are not a good people because we allow these shootings to continue without doing one thing to stop them.

Your regime does so.  Repeatedly, without pausing to take a breath.  And you support them unfailingly.  You vote for it, you empower it, you reward it.  It is what you are.  And the fact that you do so knowing that your kids are in the regime's crosshairs is even more psychotic.  But, evil psychosis is the order of the day, so it checks out.

You can't say "I'm not for X" while you offer uniform support for the regime that says "we're totally for X, and want it to happen."

No, no, no, no, Brisket. It's a one-way street thanks to brother Rush. When any person not a red-blooded capitalist white GOP commits an outrage, that person embodies the "left" or the delusional vision of liberals. We're all responsible. We're all enemies of the state. We individually cannot deny it, at least not to any affect on a Limbaugh GOPPER.

However, when the elected national representative of the red-blooded capitalist white GOP denies an epidemic that kills hundreds of thousands or rapes a chick, that's no reflection on GOPs. It's fake news or liberal lies which amount to the same thing. Or they say they didn't vote for that, so they're okay.

I thought about negging Zeus for the dishonesty of blaming the left for Catholic assembly shootings, but he's likely no knowingly lying. He's a brainwashed jersey-wearer content that his team is winning big and rigging the rules to keep winning big. The funniest part is that he thinks he's on the side that is saving the country.

I guess I could neg him for being a degenerate.

This is event is urgent (woman above) and more of an outrage than a pity. I think the press has decided that we, their audience, are in constant need of reassurance and calming. Show the dead. Show the blood. Show the rage. Show the whole story.
