Absolutely.  aggy is recruiting to their mental version of the SECX3, stuck in about 2015, in which the lines beat each other up, and games were often in single digits.  SECX3 has fully made the transition to the BDF-like spread offense.  No one complains about the gimmicky offenses anymore.

And to win a MNC in that way (unless you're 'Bama) you need a generational talent at QB1, a really strong talent at QB2, elite talent at the skill positions on offense and, most importantly, an offense that isn't mired in 2005 thinking.  And with "don't care, got Jimbo," they don't have the latter.  Crab legs was able to overcome Jimbo's offensive limitations, much as VY was Mack's.  No one on aggy roster is going to do that.

Consequence, 8T4feit.  Forever.

No, IMO aggy is actually paying attention and following the blueprint needed to win in the current college football landscape. Now it's aggy, so they'll fuck it up, but it's an easy plan to follow. Build your lines, find elite WR and a QB who can hit them. Buy whatever you need to fill the holes from the portal and what's left over.

Georgia just won that way. They almost messed up the QB part, but it wasn't for a lack of trying as they pulled the #1 and #3 ranked QBs from the portal in 2020 and followed that up with the #4 ranked high school QB last year and the #7 ranked QB this year. They're also very much in play to land Caleb Williams.

That’s a whole lot of words to say “aggy is illegally paying players, like Georgia has been for several years.”

aggy needs to first get their recruiting class on campus. Then they have to keep them out of trouble. While keeping them out of trouble, they have to keep them happy being in a backwater shithole where public demonstrations of fealty to a bronze likeness of The Gallant Texas Negro Killer serves as high entertainment.

A&M hasn't struggled to compete IN EVERY NCAA SPORT THEY TRY since 1894 without good reason. They have shown no interest in ethics, they have at times even been willing to spend money. They have bled resources from academics to support athletics. They have tried to the best of their abilities to find at least one sport in which they could be consistently competitive for a length of time.

But there are reasons why nothing the aggys have done SINCE THE 1890s has resulted in success. In any sport.

Just be patient.

aggy thinks their football program is elite, and they look no further than the likes of Leon O'Neal for proof their program is "on the precipice of greatness."

Grab your popcorn and enjoy as all this unfolds. There is no chance in Hell this works out well for Texas A&M.

For those who believe Vegas oddsmakers have an understanding of sports, Texas has a higher probability of winning the NCAA basketball championship this year than aggy has to win the CFP next season.

The game has changed my friend. Good teams just scheme your D-line into being less effective. Look at Georgia. They've had an elite D-line for awhile, this is the first year that they've been able to say that it has been a real difference maker. Bama has had one for many years as well, and how many games has the offense had to win for them? It's not like it used to be. Give me an elite QB over a 5 star DT all day. Shit, I would even take a Devonta Smith over one .

Not sure I'd use Bama and Georgia having elite D-lines as examples of why elite D-lines don't mean shit. That's just me though.

I came by to say condolences to poor aggy. Now they can’t say “We was the only team that beat the champs!!!!”

LOL. There was an aggy caller on Mark Packers show who said those exact words. "I'm pulling for Bama' so we can at least claim we beat the national champion". Then he went on some kind of convoluted scenario about the the first series that had the host speechless because of its' delirium.

Agreed that aggy won't be able to execute the plan, but it's still the correct formula. Jimbo is just about the worst leader to keep a bunch of mercenaries in line. I'd actually argue that's one of Saban's greatest attributes. Mercenary teams tend to fall apart when punched in the mouth like UGA/Texas, but Saban treats it like a business and still has total buy in.

My friend and I were discussing the likelihood that all aggie fans were watching the broadcast with Jimbo yammering incoherently.

If our coach were doing the same, I would most likely watch for 5 minutes and turn. The normal broadcast with a variety of teams' coaches is interesting. I have no desire to hear what Boomhauer and Sherman Klump think about their conference mates.

aggy didn't finish ranked in the final AP Poll. I'm shocked it happened but it was the right call based on their resume.

Didn't keep espn from ranking them #4 in their too early 2022 cfb rankings...

To have so many awesome QBs they sure have shitty QBs.

Did this guy read his own article?

Now, Texas A&M's defense, its strength this past season, will have to be rebuilt. Defensive coordinator Mike Elko left to become Duke's new coach; Aggies coach Jimbo Fisher hired Mississippi's D.J. Durkin to replace Elko. The entire front four on defense -- tackles Leal and Peevy and top pass-rushers Johnson and Clemons -- are expected to leave. Leading tackler Hansford will have to be replaced, as well. If King is healthy, he'll battle LSU transfer Max Johnson and incoming freshman Weigman, the No. 1 pocket passer in the ESPN 300, for the starting job next season.

Defensive rebuild, QB unsettled, and they didn't even finish in the top 25 this past season. Did the Aggies send a bagman to this guy, or is he just fully bought into the whole Darth Vader of College Football thing?

Jimbo is a modern day Mack.  He kisses the media's ass to get what he wants.

Some things just never change. Just remember, this guy likely votes in  other polls and for individual awards etc. There is an almost total disconnect between these rankings and how each program changes from year to year. Most of these guys have no clue how all of this personnel turmoil affects a team's prospects, and it shows. Every year. And esp in preseason polls ... which, of course, affect the polls for the entire season. You could put a team of trained monkeys to work coming up with rankings, and they probably wouldn't be any worse at it than a team of typical football writers. These asshats are just stealing money from their employers.

8-4 gives atm too much credit imo. They were 4-4 in conference and within their division, held sole possession of 5th place (in their division), and were a chin pube hair away from 6th. But let the roller coaster proceed unimpeded.

Since 1995, atm has only 2 seasons with more than 10 wins.

I'm SHOCKED that not a single aggy has ever tried to explain this mystery of aggy history to us.

It's as if some aggys never learned to read.

They finished the regular season No. 1 in the AP Poll, and Tennessee was No. 2. Both teams were 10-0 in the regular season.

Since those two teams didn't face off in the bowl game, we will never know who was the better team.

So, to be clear, Texas 8&4 has NO legit football titles.

Fun Note: The 1939 Vols were also the last team in NCAA history to go undefeated, untied, and unscored upon in the regular season.
