Sure but it's a fine-line a lot of the time. Same for college basketball. Some teams have a ton of Final Fours without many titles, some teams bat like .800 once they make the Final Four.

Texas has 4 NC-caliber seasons since LSU's 2007 title despite 13 years of desert-wandering.

Texas is a better job.

Who? The governor?

I agree that Texas is a better job but what is this metric you’re using LOL? Why are you excluding their 2007 title but counting Texas 2008 and 2009 as “NC caliber.”  What does NC caliber even mean? Why aren’t we mentioning their season they lost to Bama as NC caliber?

LSU is a place you can win big. It’s not like they struck genius coaches in Big Ed O and Les freaking Miles.  And this also overlaps with peak Bama and later peak UGA in a harder conference.

if sark finishes 1-3, with a big L to aggie does UT kelly him ?

I don't think so.  Who would they get to replace him?  There just aren't a lot of "sure fire" guys out there.

See my edit.

The point is that they don't consistently get to some level that Texas struggles to reach. I mean fucking Herman almost beat their 2019 NC team.

And Kelly has just proven that you can fail to reach that standard there. Think what you want about Kelly being a bad fit - he isn't some dipshit that doesn't know how to coach football.

When being a 3-loss SEC team meant something.

Yea I am inclined to think some of the talent at LSU quit on their asshole coach several weeks back

Sounds totally like the kind of players any team would love to bring in.

Lmao at the governer being involved with this. What an absolute shithole of a state.

No one better to approve stealing money from taxpayers, charities, people in need, and what not to pay for a multimillionaire's multimillion dollar buyout.

They were going to consult with Brett Favre, but Mississippi wouldn't loan him out.

Hey, our receivers have talent. Our fastest just doesn't catch the ball when it hits him in the hands.

IF kelly settled for $20m, great move by lsu

Why the hell would Kelly settle for $20m, unless LSU had a photo of him fucking a farm animal?

Listening to that reporter, Ross Dellenger, from Yahoo sports talk to Paul Finebutt earlier:

1. nothing new that the governor’s office has been up in LSU football, been happening for the better part of a century.

2. LSU doesn’t have a president (interim) and is expected to choose one within the next two weeks. Hence, why the governor was involved. Also, see number 1 above.

3. BK had lost the locker room and it was understood that the aggy game was a must win and he didn’t win it, and he has no CCG’s nor MNCs. And he’s an asshole and not well liked. See 1 and 2 above. Lane Kiffin seems to be on a lot of wishlists. Most people think this is the best open vacancy. LSU isn’t afraid to fire anyone including those who have won CCGs and MNCs which made it even easier to pull the trigger on BK who had none of these while his former asst Freeman made it to the MNC last season.

^^^ I just saw 14 of them at Market Basket.

Baton Rouge is still hung up on Saban hauling ass. They desperately want the coaching legend with the statue out front. I don't know what they have for an initial offer now but Kiffin should take a hard look whatever it is. The resources are there to begin kicking ass from day one, and for a long time.

He would have endeared himself to locals by now if he had fucked a farm animal.

Even during this good era of LSU football they are still usually an 8-9 win a year team that hits a big one once every five to ten years.  That's plenty fine, but they aren't tOSU / peak Bama / Georgia level by any means (and I'm not saying that's what you meant).

Whoever hires Kiffin is going to be paying out another shit ton of money in buyouts within six years.  He hasn't won shit and stepping up from Ole Miss gets you to a program where you better win shit fast.

My point is largely that parroting their 3 titles since 2000 as some reflection of the strength of their program over a program like Texas - while valid - isn't some all-encompasing metric.

Since 2000 Texas has seven top-5 AP finishes to LSU's five. Texas has ten top-10 AP finishes to LSU's nine. LSU has a couple more conference titles (granted Texas was gypped out of one in 2008).

They have overachieved when it comes to national titles while Texas has underachieved. Shit happens. It says something about how easy it is to win at LSU that they've done it with three different guys but prior performance isn't always indicative of future results. We just saw a guy faceplant there. There's no guarantee the next guy wins a title, either.
