Didn’t cook this myself obviously, but damn, my favorite time of the year, church picnic season.  Playing in a polka band, just some of the perks.  First pic is from Holy Trinity Catholic Church fall picnic in Corn Hill; next two are from today from the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church picnic in Hostyn.  Give yourself 100 internet points if you know where either of these are.  Been eating good lately

You could feed me that 2nd plate and then put me down like a dog and I wouldn't care.

Man....church picnics/potlucks are hard to beat.  Mexican Catholic ones?  Hell yeah.  Czech Catholic?  Damn straight.  Hell, even a nice Methodist or Presbyterian one?  Yep....although bring some hot sauce with you.  Best I ever had, though, was a joint MLK day service we did with Ebenezer Baptist Church.  GotDAMN.  They brought it.

Guess you never went to a Greek church potluck/festival/wedding? Those were the best I ever went to.  Incredible food, lamb on the coals, old Greek dudes pushing shots of ouzo.  Just pure joy .

Nope. Did have a Greek buddy in high school. Dinner at his house was epic. And yeah, there was ouzo.

Is the Kroger spray cheese worth a shit? HEB's is... not.

It's not as good as real EZ cheese.

Played Plum Creek with my BiL today. Came home and realized I had some leftover fried okra and fries from Oldies in Wimberley, plus some container of queso. Zapped it to pair with my Jack and Coke.

Fried Gizzards from chicken express. Now I've never had them before but after years of people here mentioning them I figured I'd give them a try today. I like the flavor and the how crispy the batter is, but are the gizzards always chewy?

Yep, they're the chewiest of the innards.

I wish places did fried hearts - they're the best innard.

Buy some at HEB and skewer them with a chimichurri, delicious.

I always do them in a foil pack on the grill when I’m cooking other stuff. Butter, garlic, copious amounts of different seasonings.

Yep.  They actually became a tailgate snack for us years ago - @CHIEF knows.  I'd fill a gallon ziploc with hearts, some oil, and seasoning of choice (often zatarains).  Put on bamboo skewer, grill, eat while drinking beer.

I still fire up my little homemade yakitori grill every 2-3 weeks and cook a dozen skewers of chicken hearts basted with Tare sauce. I'm not sure there is a better bite, on the planet, for the cost.

They are cheap enough that I boil a whole 1 lb.+/- package each week as dog treats.

Last year I was hammered in Long Island City around 3am and bought 9 skewers of chicken hearts off a food truck and just destroyed most of them. Not my proudest moment but I love chicken hearts
