What’s the point?  You aren’t going to agree with any of it.  Both have moved farther apart on almost all issues.  There’s plenty of examples out there, this isn’t news to most people.  Women’s rights and immigration fuck the Republicans for sure.  It’s the rest they keep getting farther apart on but you and plenty others don’t see it obviously.  Literally posted a poll of democrats and their stance and how it’s changed.  There is no middle anymore on anything.

So you got fucking nothing. You can't name one fucking policy, one fucking piece of legislation to prove your stupid fucking point. There is no middle for one reason and one reason only: the right has gone fucking looney tunes and is so far right, anything middle would look to be right of fucking Hitler.

Seriously, that might be the dumbest post in months. Just a bunch of gullible dumbasses falling for the "everyone's a radical leftist" coming from republican campaigns. They just point to AOC or Bernie and pretend that they are the party and not the outliers. Anyone remember in the democratic primary when they were asked who supports Medicare for all and only Bernie (maybe Warren I don't remember) raised there hand? Anyone see that no democrat other than a handful are willing to come even close to criticizing Israel? Supporting the police in response to more vocal progressives calling for "defunding the police" etc.? This is why this country is doomed. People seriously are too dense to see propoganda when it's staring them in the fucking face.

Maybe it's just me but I think y'all are saying the same thing. But also I haven't paid attention to the entire dialogue you've had.

I really tried pushing that once, but MAGA is king of cognitive dissonance. it is "100% fraud!", but then they will immediately ask when is the next time they can vote, its not about reality but about their feelings, they are like a dog, if a dog could hate 24/7

More than likely is that she voted and will now find fraud with her vote being cast…by her. But her stupidity is in publicizing it. More of her ilk will think she is smart and want to do it themselves. Thus her future fraud claims will not be as impactful.

trump in 2020 and 2016 were kinda just shitty guy does shitty things, this time he's straight up gone full on fascist and batshit. It's not even remotely close to his previous campaigns and rhetoric.

Nah ... Trump was racist and fascist in 2016 and 2020. Just because you didn't see it, does not mean Trump was not a fascist. All that was needed was to truly open your eyes and mind and know some history.

-- People in my artsy-intellectual circles were saying he was fascist -- Mussolini style -- during the 2016 campaign. I was saying it in 2016. Almost no one believed us.

-- 99.99999% of American were in denial. Hell, even today, the vast overwhelming majority of Americans, media, and pundits are in denial. "Trump is a fascist" is not said in the polite worlds of legacy, mainstream media, corporate boardrooms, art museum cocktail parties, church socials, and so on.

-- In 2016, the American Exceptionalism myth blinded everyone, still does for most. The Apprentice Show was a BS smoke screen "You're Fired!!" was code for "Fuck You! I am a dictator."

-- in 2020, Trump was leading a mass death campaign -- via Covid -- and no one was saying it is fascist. But it was. Don't forget, the early deaths were in heavily populated urban Democratic areas.

Since 2016, Trump has been continually acting like a fascist dictator... mostly baby steps beginning in 2016. Well, let's see no one is stopping me, so let's ramp it up into 2020 and beyond. No one has stopped him yet, so he's dialed up to full-on Fascist, 100% all the time.

--  Musk was watching all this and said, why not, I will publicly be the fascist I am on the inside.

Bottom line: Trump is a fascist, was a fascist, and will always be a fascist -- by any dictionary definition.

The larger problem is why so much of America refused to believe what is right before their eyes. And now it might be too late.

I can think of some. LGBTQ+ stuff like allowing gay marriage and being nice to trans people.

Abandoning free trade to an extent and going back to aiding Unions...to an extent. Trying to raise the national minimum wage. Doing some things to fight climate change.

Stuff like that.

All things that I like and I support but I guess if you are a 1990s type Democrat who wants big crime bills, free trade bills, and cozying up to big business you might be annoyed.

@quigley Yeah, I don't see evidence of MAGA, but the point is if he can't vote then nobody needs fucking voter ID to vote.

If you're talking about Dabo, I'm extrapolating from White Southern hyper-religious football coach = Trump voter (not that 1 vote in SC matters).

Mostly i was joking because nothing is at stake in SC this year.

Bigger point, we certainly agree, voter ID is a voter suppression tool.

I'd like to thank @Hook1997 for validating my theory:

Quote

And there was a time in our history where policies like free school lunch WERE actually new and very progressive. Hell, there was a time in our history where public education was new and very progressive. People quite literally fought and died to have a weekend.  The whole idea about what is "moderate" or in the "center" isn't actually about any specific policies at all but about how most people want to view themselves. Most people aren't comfortable thinking of themselves as part of an extreme and so they don't want to support ideas that people around them who they like and respect think are extreme.

The right built up such a big right-wing propaganda machine that they managed to convince millions of people that feeding kids at school is dangerous extremism.  Tons of communities now believe that because it's what the people they trust on TV say and what their friends and family and neighbors say. But that's actually a very easy bubble to pierce and you do it like Walz has: when challenged on it you stand firm and say something like "what a monster, kids got food and now can learn!" It's easy to show there's not some great harm in feeding kids, and it's not like it's too fucking expensive.  There are all sorts of other issues like this too that the Dems should be more aggressively championing instead of running away from, but the prior generation of Democratic leadership was too traumatized from coming up under Reaganism too know how to fight.

Not arguing the last part at all.  But literally democrats themselves in polls say they have moved more left.  What part of that are you so angry about?  Like what’s making this visceral reaction happen?  Everything ok at home?  The fact you use fucking so many times proves you won’t listen to any logical argument of a view you don’t agree with obviously.

American Democrats, in 2024, are much further right than pretty much any major liberal party in any other first world country. I'm not even sure it's debatable.

What a completely asinine attempt at a point.

My feeling is that it was mostly hyperbole at the time and his fat lazy ass really didn't do much while in office to follow through on that bullshit, not to mention that he was clearly told no multiple times by people in his own administration, in the military, and in congress. Jan 6 was the first time his words truly turned into something resembling a banana republic with a true coup attempt and a legitimate act of fascism, trying to stay in power against the will of the people. Which why so many of us are just befuddled that he not only got the nomination without any pushback but that he's considered a legitimate contender.

Voted about 11:30 in light-blue Birmingham suburb. Clicking along efficiently, I asked the poll workers how busy it was, they showed me the numbers on the machines, about double the usual.

No drama, even though I cosplayed wearing my replica Union Army belt buckle.

Saw one woman walk out from voting with a smile like she'd sent an abusive ex to prison.

Checking Instagram later, my local artsy friends are swarming the polls, some standing in hour-long lines. Maybe all the other people in those lines are Trumpy. Maybe they aren't.

The Democrats have actually been a bigger champion of free trade than the GOP, especially since Trump (e.g., tariffs). Aiding unions has been a core Democratic policy for a fucking hundred years, that isn't a shift to the goddamn left. Neither is raising the minimum wage a shift. The fucking minimum wage was established in fucking 1938 and hasn't kept up with inflation at all. That isn't a shift to the left. The EPA was founded in 1970, in part to fight climate change (just not specifically global warming). That isn't a shift to the left. If anything, the Democrats have been a lot more lukewarm on these traditional "left" policies over the last 20 years, so I'd call that a shift to the center.

Everyone is on edge about false equivalencies. And it is a false equivalency that the GOP has moved as far right as the Dems have moved left. I think that's what is pissing people off with your posts.  Certainly the tangible effects of those moves have been greater on the right (Jan. 6th, Charlottesville).  And before you say "yeah, but the George Floyd/Minneapolis and Kenosha riots," those were in response to actual police brutality and murder; worthy reasons to be up in arms unlike a fake stolen election and white supremacy.

Well you will get no argument from me. I was just saying they have shifted leftwards on those issues from where they had been.

But to the Republican media machine these are dangerous radical left policies.
