Yep, and he may not be getting promoted as much as he was - it's been a while since I saw a catturd2 post in my email notifications/recommendations.  He made a few critical comments about Musk, and maybe he found out that new twitter is not keen on "free speech".

The best part about twitter (like YouTube) is the comments. Not being able to see the comments of videos without an account means I'm spending even less time than I already was on that site.

which then impacts impressions site-wide and reduces impressions on ads.

dumb.

Elon's Cybertruck finally getting to the road in limited numbers is actually good for the broader market consumer who wants a Ford, it seems:

Quote

Who has two electric motors and a $10,000 price cut? *Slaps roof of F-150 Lightning* this guy. Yesterday, Ford reduced the starting cost of its battery-powered pickup truck from $59,995 to $49,995, saying it was because of lower material prices and greater production capabilities.

It’s likely also because, over the weekend, Tesla rolled out its first production Cybertruck, which will directly rival the F-150 Lightning and is estimated by Kelley Blue Book to start at ~$50,000. While Ford has slashed the price tag on the Mustang Mach-E electric SUV several times to try and compete with Tesla, whose own cuts have helped it dominate 60% of the American EV market, it had been raising prices on the F-150 Lightning…until now.

With sales of the F-150 Lightning dropping from 13,000 in the second half of 2022 to 8,800 in the first half of 2023, Ford hopes the price cut will juice sales. But there’s still an oversupply of the reduced cost Mach-E that far outpaces demand.

Ford isn’t the only one with too much supply: The quantity of EVs available for purchase in the US has exploded by almost 350% this year, according to Cox Automotive, and demand hasn’t kept pace—leaving many unsold cars on lots.

It's really good for those of us who want to laugh at what would happen if you added a bed to a Prius.

Or those of us who wanted Citroen to put the 1980 Karin into actual production

I like to think that the juvenile antics that Elmo displays on twitter, extends to his mind being firmly rooted in the angular car designs of the late 70s/early 80s.

They weren't all bad. Cannonball Run was one of my early go to movies when I was in elementary school.

Co-sign.  Just had this discussion with a group of extended family (most of whom are pretty politically left, many of whom drive EVs and have for years) -- we agreed that when you punch the accelerator on a Mustang, you should feel the earth's atmosphere wincing in pain.

Or you can punch the accelerator, lose control of the car, and be upside down when it finally comes to rest.  17 year old me learned that lesson the hard way.

Yes.  But remember, you are an above-average dumbass.  Exceptional, even.

I’m pretty sure we were all exceptional dumbasses at 17.  I expressed my dumbassery by flipping a Mustang.  I’m sure you found a way to express yours.  Walking to a 7-11 and calling your parents from the pay phone to tell them your car is upside down in the middle of the road is a rite of passage the kids of today will not get to experience.  And it’s the walk that was the rite of passage.  5 minutes probably.  Thinking about having to make the call, what you are going to say, what kind of bullshit can I come up with that could possibly explain that this was just some unfortunate turn of events beyond my control.  That night they were relieved that me and my friend both walked away relatively unharmed.  The next morning was a little different.

HAHA!  JOKE'S ON YOU!  I was 18 when I had to call my folks, in the middle of the night, while they were in a different state visiting friends, after I jumped my new Isuzu over some railroad tracks in the middle of ass-nowhere with a girl I'd just met, ending up in the middle of a pasture having threaded the car between two trees.  So, the point being....I was legally an ADULT when I had my exceptional dumbass right of passage.  Not to brag, or nuthin'......

You really should have turned it around on them that it was their fault for giving their 17 year old boy the keys to a sports car. What did they expect to happen?

What's worse than a 17 year-old wrecking a Mustang?  A bunch of 20-somethings, 30-somethings, and older wrecking them leaving a Cars and Coffee.

We have a mutual friend who had to interrupt his parents 25th anniversary trip to Tahiti because his 16 year old brother, who got to come hang out with him for a week while his parents were out of town, got a beer bottle cracked over his head, and needed parental authorization to put staples in  his skull.  Most uncomfortable phone call I have ever seen..

I paid cash for it, which back then was like $6k.  Mowed a lot of lawns and was a wise baseball card collector. It was that or a Jeep.  More potential for an accident with the Mustang.  More potential for bodily injury with the Jeep.  If I could go back in time and be my parents, I would’ve told me to keep my money and bought me a gently used Honda Civic.

I still struggle to believe that cybertruck is real, and from an otherwise successful ev company (at least by outward appearance). There can’t be a market for it, even from the most loyal Elon bros. It just can’t be possible that anyone anywhere sees that and thinks “that looks awesome and I want one” especially at the price it’ll probably go for. It’s way beyond simulation absurdity, it just can’t be real. It’s like living a real time Mandela effect, where in ten years we’ll all remember it distinctly, but it was never really a thing, just our collective imaginations, on acid.

those people exist, as do the people willing to pay for it.

but how many have they lost in the FOUR YEARS from when they announced it until now? not expecting deliveries of any real numbers until 2024. at the earliest.

it's going to get a ton of hate from...everyone. because it looks like a car that a third grader developed. it's going to blind people. there are going to be a million memes about it - TSLA has never been good with alignment, imagine how thats going to work when there isn't any paint or weatherstripping to hide it? it's going to cost way too much to fix any kind of body work, it's going to rust. it's going to get as hot as the sun inside.

TSLA has never underpromised and overdelivered. it's obvious this is going to just be the next thing they over promise and under deliver on.

remember that "exoskeleton" that the Cybertruck was going to have?

nope.

Twitter is still trying to clean up the fallout from Musk's bullshit "verified" crap.

It should be noted that this means twitter knows that a lot of the "verified" folks are using their status to spam people, so unless you follow them, their messages automatically go into your "message request" inbox.  With that said, say goodbye to receiving messages from non-verified users unless you remember to go in and “Allow message requests from everyone” (this may sound good on the surface, but most of us are getting spam from "verified" accounts as it is).

Quote

Starting as soon as July 14th, we’re adding a new messages setting that should help reduce the number of spam messages in DMs. With the new setting enabled, messages from users who you follow will arrive in your primary inbox, and messages from verified users who you don’t follow will be sent to your message request inbox. Users who previously had their permissions set to allow message requests from everyone will be migrated to this new setting, but can switch back at any time.

When Longhorn great Stanley Richard was asked what car he drives, he replied emphatically, “Sheriff’s gotta ride a Mustang!”

Maybe he now has kids to take to soccer practice.
