Spoiler

what's amazing to me is that cahn (creator/runner) & her writers have managed to create a pocket universe 'that works' where the uk is subservient and secondary on the global stage to the point that 2 false flag ops especially the 2nd one here at the end of s3 'seem plausible' within the political/global situation of this timeline

in our timeline russian subs don't get lost anymore - even with red october 'caterpillar drive' technology, should it exist, and should it be operational - the 5 eyes alliance knows where they are and at what depth at all times

+++

s3 featured 2 glitches in it's matrix - in both cases it feels like cahn+team did not have s3 figured out when they put s2 in the can, necessitating some pivots:

- roylin's suicide

- kate & austin's failed hookup replaced by.....

- callum the 'mi6' nuclear sub analyst backchannel to the 'cia' around 'mi6' also appears out of nowhere and conveniently happens to be kate's new fuckbuddy

in our timeline the sigint orgs (nsa, gchq, etc.) don't have 'backchannels'

all minor, and forgivable, but detected and noted as likely necessary to make this pocketverse "work" in 8 episodes

lost started winging it at about this point (end of s3), and man in the high castle suffered for doing the same thing at every season transition

i hope this team keeps it together so that s4+ are watchable by husbands and wives together and equally enjoyed

Just finished "Arcane" based on a recommendation from a friend.  Had low expectations going in and know zero about LoL.

But I was hooked at the end of Episode 3 and it only got better at the end.  Hands down the best thing I've seen in a long time.

Arcane was excellent. Just worked my way through this. The animation was great as was the story.

watching perfect neighbor now. i haven’t cried like this in years. i am so mad right now. gun violence is so goddamn stupid.

It's not a very well put together documentary, but the story itself is so heartbreaking that it doesn't matter. I'm sure we all guessed who the victim was early on. Such an exemplary human being.

Not sure where to put this, but after watching that Ed Gein show, I've fired up the Gacy version on Peacock. The two shows made me wonder why there hasn't been much of anything done on Dean Corrl. Nightmare fuel

Because Corrl is far, far worse. I don't think any of the major streamers want to push something like that.

That was the first serial killer/torturer I became aware of. We'd just moved back to Houston. I was still in school. It's the only reason I know that there's a place called High Island.

If someone can do a show on Dahmer, they can do one on Corrl. Like Gein, I bet hardly anyone not from Southeast Texas has ever heard of him. If someone does want to take on his story, perhaps it lacks any sense of humanity that grounds some of these stories. The neighbor in the Dahmer story helped with that.

I've never read anything about the Corrl stories. I only know what's been related to me about the horror.

i’m watching this ed gein show, and during the scenes i have to have the volume on 40, and the as soon as the music and/or sound effects come in i gotta ram that shit down to 15. i can’t stand this aspect of so many shows.

Perfect Neighbor was a fucking gut punch. Not "dusty eyes". Full-on waterworks when the Dad has to talk to his kids.

I was pretty shocked to hear Al Sharpton actually give a great message to the son during his sermon, on why he shouldn’t feel guilty about the murder.

We just cancelled Netflix but I might have to buy a month for this. It's supposed to be Oscar caliber.

man, that was intense. and while the end is going to piss off a lot of people, and rightly so,  I can see why they did that.

the sad thing is you can truly imagine this is how it goes down when truly competent people are in charge... and now?

great performances left and right in the movie.

but this is a prime example of tackling an impossible subject....

Mob War: Philadelphia v The Mafia is the number 2 show currently, so it’s relevant.

It’s a very similar format to Fear City and Get Gotti. FBI agents and prosecutors sucking their own dicks and glossing over major failures. Mafia guys aren’t much smarter so it evens out.

Spoiler

- The Previte accounts were total bullshit. Merlino allegedly knew he was wired, and Previte like a dumb ass only wanted to talk about drugs with him. He wasn’t killed because LCN knew he was a FBI CI. He also an ex cop. Any LCN member or associate was nuts for doing business with him. They touched on him being a security guard, but the guy was Philly PD.

- Stanfa kept a low profile is the most absurd bullshit I’ve ever heard. The guy is pouring his heart about murders on a wire and threatened to kill a reporter on camera. Just glossed over for time I think, but the FBI lady said he was low profile. Total Five Families power play to put him in charge. He had zero support on the street. Thus, he had to use actual regards like Veasy.

- Changs died in Joey’s arms. The documentary could have emphasized that more.

- Joey’s uncle was a rat. He disowned him, but it happened. His father was Scarfo’s underboss but got demoted for alcoholism and some shit with the Pagans.

- The feds not being able to put drugs or murders on Merlino was a tremendous failure. To beat their chests on Netflix 30 years later is wild. They couldn’t flip anybody in his crew. Never got him talking felonies on a wire. A good reminder that many OC cases are weak without informants. It’s structured that way for a reason.

A House of Dynamite.

Spoiler

This was an extremely frustrating movie to watch. I absolutely hated the structure of this. Great first act, and then just repetition until it ends, without an ending.

I kind of dug it.   They showed the reactions of several characters.   SECDEF's, um, exit was something.

Yup. I'm not sure what end or answers could be given here, when the reality is that there is likely none. It is meant to leave you in that state of limbo. I made the mistake of looking up what a real world response time would be to such a scenario, and now I'm wondering how the hell we ever got here to begin with....

Read the book “Nuclear War a Scenario” and it will give you a real sense of how short the response time will be

Arcane reminds of the Biosphere game.

It’s based on League of Legends apparently, didn’t play. Loved the show.

Late to the party but goddamn Blue Eye Samurai is great.
