The one thing every European agrees that the US does better than every other country is our national parks. Why are we attacking park rangers who make maybe 25k? What's the point. How do all these layoffs increase efficiency because that's not what that word means.

Most liberals like national parks. It’s as simple as that.

Most republicans do too, but they’ll change their mind when told to do so.

My BIL, who might actually be the most interesting man in the world, worked a summer seasonal job as a park ranger in Yellowstone four years ago. This is a man who has a PhD, is a master wooden boat builder, built his home by himself, has fished salmon in Alaska professionally, served in the Peace Corps and has been a Fulbright Scholar in India amongst other accomplishments. He lists his summer in Yellowstone working the entrance gate and interacting with visitors as one of his favorite experiences. Our national parks are a treasure that should not be trifled with.

Yep. Friends daughter did it this past summer. I thought it was curious as I had never heard of anyone having the inclination. Pretty the same sentiment from her, best experience.ofnher life. She could have easily flown the world on the parents dime after graduation, but that was her choice and she regretted none of it. Entered a PhD program this Fall as well.

If you insist. Walked into a room full of euros and laid out criticism of both European and American censorship, addressed religious liberty, mass migration, overturning a democratic election in Romania, challenged them to articulate exactly what it is they are defending in terms of our shared values, challenged their commitment to democracy,  and told them that they need to embrace the will of their own people.

My wife was trying really hard to get on one of their conservation teams. Not  anymore. Told her last night she had a better chance getting a gig with a non-profit in africa counting angry hippos. Basically all of them.

Our anthem is at its best when played by a marching band with no singing.

Spoiler

1

To Anacreon in Heav'n, where he sat in full Glee,

A few Sons of Harmony sent a Petition,

That he their Inspirer and Patron would be;

When this answer arriv'd from the Jolly Old Grecian

"Voice, Fiddle, and Flute,

"no longer be mute,

"I'll lend you my Name and inspire you to boot,

"And, besides I'll instruct you, like me, to intwine

"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

2

The news through Olympus immediately flew;

When Old Thunder pretended to give himself Airs.

"If these Mortals are suffer'd their Scheme to persue,

"The Devil a Goddess will stay above Stairs.

"Hark! already they cry,

"In transports of Joy,

"Away to the Sons of Anacreon we'll fly,[28]

"And there, with good Fellows, we'll learn to intwine

"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine.

3

"The Yellow-Hair'd God and his nine fusty Maids,

"From Helicon's banks will incontinent flee,[29]

"Idalia will boast but of tenantless Shades,

"And the bi-forked Hill a mere Desart will be

"My Thunder no fear on't,

"Shall soon do it's Errand,

"And dam'me! I'll swinge the Ringleaders, I warrant.

"I'll trim the young Dogs, for thus daring to twine

"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

4

Apollo rose up, and said, "Pry'thee ne'er quarrel,

"Good King of the Gods, with my Vot'ries below:

"Your Thunder is useless"—then shewing his Laurel,

Cry'd "Sic evitabile fulmen,[30] you know!

"Then over each head

"My Laurels I'll spread;

"So my Sons from your Crackers no Mischief shall dread,

"Whilst snug in their Club-Room, they jovially twine

"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

5

Next Momus got up with his risible Phiz,

And swore with Apollo he'd chearfully join—

"The full Tide of Harmony still shall be his,

"But the Song, and the Catch, and the Laugh shall be mine.

"Then, Jove, be not jealous

"Of these honest fellows."

Cry'd Jove, "We relent, since the Truth you now tell us;

"And swear by Old Styx, that they long shall intwine

"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine."

6

Ye Sons of Anacreon, then join Hand in Hand;

Preserve Unanimity, Friendship, and Love!

'Tis your's to support what's so happily plann'd;

You've the sanction of Gods, and the Fiat of Jove.

While thus we agree,

Our Toast let it be.

May our Club flourish happy, united, and free!

And long may the Sons of Anacreon intwine

The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine.

Good thing you didn’t go to San Diego then.

She may not be quite as smart as Vance, or maybe even as versed on foreign affairs, such that her ad libbed answers to interview questions aren't super-polished.  Then again, Vance pretty regularly inserts his foot in his mouth, deeply, while speaking extemporaneously.  Far more than Harris.

But that was a prepared speech that most politicians could give.

One word: "Haitia"

well, yeah, when you let an algorithm decide rather than a person, this is what you get. they probably didn't even "look" at it - it was probably caught up in a search for charged terms and added to the list automatically. collateral damage be damned. oh well, this is what "we" voted for

Fuck that. Longhorns don't go where it is easy. we change the world everywhere we go. Start in your little corner of Texas. That is as good, if not better, than jumping into existing groups. Have them support you, provide guidance and tools.

This sentiment should be going everywhere with us. Not just to where it is easy.

Yep, it's old paradigm. Trumpists have been getting shredded by smart people for eight years to no effect.

well, when your slogan is "fuck your feelings", it's gonna be hard to sway some minds. in truth though, that's not even accurate. it's not fuck your feelings, but bow down to mine. but "bow down to my feelings" doesn't have the same ring to it

Not yet...too early.  There is a lot of gnashing of teeth about it, and not sure if intentional or just a sign of disarray but there is nothing talk is going to do right now except drag the opposition (Ds) down into the verbal mud with the administration.  Timing will be critical. There isn't any sense interrupting your enemy if you believe they are making mistakes, let those things really start to play out and then strike.  The Leopards thread has to get a lot busier and work its way up the curve before the time will be right.

This, although I’m not sure the time will ever be right. I do know that a fuck ton of people, myself included, are trying our best to just ignore all the nonsense and watch this place burn down, so I’m not even sure it would break through to Dems, let alone maga morons and people who don’t pay attention.

They don’t like people with “disabilities” either so it could just be that.

Like everyone with an IQ higher than a potato, I love Pete. But him going on Fox News every day and completely depantsing them over and over again did absolutely nothing.

You don't put Pete on for Trumpers. You put him on for the people who keep listening to them thinking "Trump won't do anything he says".

This claims they are in...

Nothing to see here. I’m sure our conservative posters are furrowing their brows mightily at this overreach of the “government” into people’s personal lives.

I already reached out to my State AG. Sorry, peeople in Texas. You guys are fucked.

That being said, I wonder if we should have some of our Surly Law Dogs file lawsuits in various jurisdictions. Bet we could get a lot of people to sign onto that lawsuit.
