This is true, but the terrorists are probably all just sitting back and laughing at us right now.

Yeah, man, I would be surprised. Let's not be dumb.

It should be required to be taught in history class in blue states

I take you at your word. And I get the hesitation to emulate bad actors, and make accusations.

But, when I hear turnip accuse others of some act, I am not surprised when I learn he was projecting. Quite the opposite. And I absolutely believe turnip would commit to both actions, if he thought he could get away with them. Causing death? The count this term is three hundred thousand, already, and we just passed the four month mark.

That would seem to be a security nightmare. Not only the fox clods, but the production of a recorded video?

I think you meant 2024 election.

The capacity to consider an act of deceit, treason, and conspiracy is entirely separate from the capacity to seamlessly pull it off. The dumbest, most incompetent, nakedly corrupt, self-serving people on the planet didn't pull off staging an assassination and stealing an election without a hitch. They won an election because people like those qualities about them.

Any conspiracy that requires more than 3 people--who are not bound by law to keep that secret--to keep quiet for an extended period of time without writing a book or showing up on CNN for personal profit is stupid. Point blank.

Do you mean the folks that attacked our Capitol in an attempt to subvert the results of an election, and who got away with it, and who now run all three branches of government, and who are open about weaponizing our government against their enemies? Which insider is now an outsider, facing consequences, and looking for a book deal?

That was all done out in the open. Not the same thing as staging a shooting or tampering with votes

This. None of this things were well-planned, meticulously executed, tightly-kept secrets.

I don't believe it was rigged either.  But, if it were, we all know that Team GOP/MAGA would instantly come out and defend the operation, stating that it had to be done to "protect America" and "it was the only chance to restore this great country by staging an assassination attempt, no matter what the cost was".

The only way it would be possible would be if the shooter was unaware of the plan.  Basically, recruit a rube who doesn't know he's about to be executed.  And, that presupposes his ammo was replaced with blanks without his knowledge and that Trump wore a squib.

It's incredibly far-fetched.

I have two friends who are Secret Service and both think the PA attempt on Trump was staged.   Their reasons:

1.  The rooftop the shot was fired from "should" have had some member of law enforcement on it.  They are both willing to admit that this could have just been a colossal fuck up and the guy got lucky that no one was on it and at a minumim that the access to the roof as not secured.   The rooftop was ~800 feet from the stage.  That is well within the danger zone for snipers when POTUS/Candidate is speaking at a venue like this.   It's not like this was a downtown area with 1000s of windows to cover.  This was a vantage point with a fantastic sightline  to the stage.   So, either either a complete fuckup or allowed to happen.

2.  The fact that Trump stood up with the arm in the air gesture.  Both they both think this is an absolute tell.   The agents would have smothered him and dragged him out of there with total cover.   POTUS/Candidate would not be able to stand up and shake his fist.  Both said that every agent involved in that would have been demoted or outright fired for not getting POTUS out of there.

3.  Both have also said that they would haven taken a bullet for him.  Not because they respect him, far from it.  No agent wants to live the rest of their life knowing they failed to protect their assignment.

At the time, I was very sure it was staged.   I still think that.

And it looked like they were waiting for him to do it. All of them just sort of standing there in the middle of the stage. Then he does his thing and they finally rush him off.

Imagine if there were two shooters. Or three. Or five. In different spots. Are we to believe in the 10 seconds between being shot and propping him up where he had just been shot, they determined that there was only one shooter, and that he had been neutralized? And figured it was fine to just hang out there for a little while? None of it makes any sense.

I hate saying shit like that because I know how it sounds. Occam's Razor and all says "extreme incompetence", and I'm sure that's probably the deal. It's just.... you know.

This is the least safe I’ve ever felt as a Jew in America and I honestly can’t think of second place.
Who are you afraid of? Is it a specific group of people that you feel threatened by or is it a "it could be anyone, anywhere, anytime" kind of thing? I have the feeling Jews are not alone whatever the answer. I'm sorry this is happening.

The last two weeks have made it clear that despite what my personal opinion of the conflict may be, I am now seemingly putting my family at risk by attending any sort of Jewish event that could be construed by someone as favorable to Israel.

Not wanting to get into any kind of trauma dick measuring contest (yes, there are clearly many groups who have been treated worse over the years), just merely an observation that you certainly won't be catching me or my family at a public menorah lighting this year, and that's a development that makes me sad.

What's super-cool is that now you have plenty of shit to fear from "both sides."  While MAGA cultivates this image of being "against anti-semitism," many of the key voices in the MAGA movement are anti-semitic as shit, blaming (((you people))) for all manner of ills in society.  And of course, the radical pro-Palestinian fringe (on the left....or at least opposite of MAGA types) is also a rising threat.

It fucking sucks.  We're in a dark place, and it's only getting darker.

Yep.  Legit antisemitism from the right.  Anti-Israel from the left.

Puts the "not overly religious but love our grandparents and feel something special towards Israel but hate Neyanyahu" American Jew in a weird spot politically.

We just had friends who meet that description (they're a bit more religious than average, I think) over for dinner on Friday.  And yeah....they've been in a super-shitty place since October 7th (and really, before that -- let's not forget the Tree of Life and anti-semitism of Trump Regime 1.0).  Seems like whenever history decides to veer into "let's make things really shitty" territory, it always seems to follow with "and don't worry....we've got a special seat up front reserved for jews."

This was what I was wondering. It's a shitstorm that nobody should have to navigate, much less someone living in America (liberty and justice for all).

Crazy thing is, compared to most Texans, I have a lot of Jewish people that I can have this conversation with, but I also know they each fall anywhere along the spectrum (and what a spectrum it is). I don't know how to even approach that conversation knowing a less than full-throated support of Neyanyahu could make them feel I'm antisemitic (despite decades of friendship that would prove otherwise).

I want to let them know I'm here for them even if I'm not here for what Israel is doing.

This is somewhat similar to my experiences of late, although it's certainly a function of the fact that I am currently closer with more of my Jewish friends than my Muslim friends.  I had no falling out with the latter, but many have moved back to the middle east.  I imagine they might be similarly put off by any attempt on my part to tread the middle ground.  I find the whole thing so sad.
