States need to withhold taxes that go to the feds and reinvest them in state military, emergency management, education, infrastructure.

He's pushing us to realign into a confederacy that's easy to secede from and we need to take him up on it.

On one hand, this is going to cripple tourism and international travel for the World Cup.  On the other, it should help drop ticket prices, no?

Sure.   If you want to sit next to Dan Patrick and Ken Paxton.

The use of early 20th century graphics is certainly a choice.

Especially poignant and a little too on the nose.

Like all Michigan sports fans online, she's been doing the lord's work reminding tOSU losers that even though they won an NC last year, they lost to Michigan. It's never not hilarious.

Adding to the spectacle, a pop-up shop operated by 365 Campaign, a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based retailer that sells pro-Trump and other conservative-coded memorabilia, was set up on-site with campaign-style merchandise on Army property. Soldiers were seen purchasing clothing and tchotchkes, including "Make America Great Again" chain necklaces to faux credit cards labeled "White Privilege Card: Trumps Everything."

Broadcasting Fox News in military base public spaces for 20+ years looks to be paying off for all the wrong people.

Have you seen this thing? It has a great character who was treated very unfairly. Inspector Javert. He's just trying to enforce the law but then you have the criminal Jean Valjean who lies. I call him Lying Jean Valjean. He lies about who he is. Why would he lie about that?

What if we got the entire internet to call that number and report Melania Trump...?

Like anybody knows where the hell she is. The one place she most certainly is not is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. So I guess that narrows it down a bit.

Well, yeah, but I'm still calling it in with that address.

My smartassery will not be stifled by facts.  It's all I've got left.

From Military.com:

Bragg Soldiers Who Cheered Trump's Political Attacks While in Uniform Were Checked for Allegiance, Appearance

It was supposed to be a routine appearance, a visit from the commander in chief to rally the troops, boost morale and celebrate the Army's 250th-birthday week, which culminates with a Washington, D.C., parade slated for Saturday.

Instead, what unfolded Tuesday at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, bore little resemblance to the customary visit from a president and defense secretary. There, President Donald Trump unleashed a speech laced with partisan invective, goading jeers from a crowd of soldiers positioned behind his podium -- blurring the long-standing and sacrosanct line between the military and partisan politics.

As Trump viciously attacked his perceived political foes, he whipped up boos from the gathered troops directed at California leaders, including Gov. Gavin Newsom -- amid the president's controversial move to deploy the National Guard and Marines against protesters in Los Angeles -- as well as former President Joe Biden and the press. The soldiers roared with laughter and applauded Trump's diatribe in a shocking and rare public display of troops taking part in naked political partisanship.

For this story, Military.com reached out to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's office as well as the Army and the 82nd Airborne Division directly with a series of questions that ranged from the optics of the event to social media posts showing the sale of Trump campaign merchandise on the base, to the apparent violation of Pentagon policies on political activity in uniform.

Internal 82nd Airborne Division communications reviewed by Military.com reveal a tightly orchestrated effort to curate the optics of Trump's recent visit, including handpicking soldiers for the audience based on political leanings and physical appearance.

One unit-level message bluntly saying: "No fat soldiers."

"If soldiers have political views that are in opposition to the current administration and they don't want to be in the audience then they need to speak with their leadership and get swapped out," another note to troops said.

Service officials declined to comment when asked about the extent to which troops were screened, whether soldiers displaying partisan cheers on television -- a violation of long-standing Pentagon rules -- would be disciplined or if soldiers who objected to participating in the event, citing disagreements with the administration, would be disciplined or admonished in any way.

"This has been a bad week for the Army for anyone who cares about us being a neutral institution," one commander at Fort Bragg told Military.com on the condition of anonymity to avoid retaliation. "This was shameful. I don't expect anything to come out of it, but I hope maybe we can learn from it long term."

cont'd

I get the criticism of the military brass who failed to prepare their soldiers for Trump’s craven political stunt. But the real tragedy is having a norm busting POTUS who used soldiers (for whom he has no respect) to feed his ego. He’s a broken, immoral, disordered monster.

More hints that FEMA will be done away with in its entirety.  When the feds do contribute money to an area it in the future it will be done differently:

“We’re going to give it out directly. It’ll be from the president’s office. We’ll have somebody here, could be Homeland Security.”

Wanna bet which set of states (red versus blue) will get the lion's share of the money?

Interesting. Flood Insurance is currently run through FEMA. If it goes back to private companies, everyone is screwed.

So there’s this guy, Javert—tremendous law and order guy, okay? Nobody respects the law more than Javert. He believes in rules. Big believer in justice, no exceptions. Some people say too much justice—too tough! But not me. He’s doing what he thinks is right. Very strong!

Now there’s this other guy, Jean Valjean—total disaster at first, stole a loaf of bread, can you believe it? One loaf. Sad! But then he turns it around—starts a business, helps people, really classy stuff. But Javert? He’s not buying it. He says, “Once a criminal, always a criminal.” Very tough, very focused. He’s like a border wall with legs—nothing gets by him!

But then— Javert starts to crack. He sees Valjean being a good guy and He can’t take it. Doesn’t compute. Law or mercy? Rules or humanity? It’s a mess. A big, beautiful existential crisis. Eventually, Javert can’t handle it, and—boom—he’s out. Walks off the job forever. Very tragic. Very French.

In the end, great story, tremendous drama. Very emotional. People cry. I don’t cry, but people do. They cry to me! Big strong guys, with tears in their eyes coming to me all the time they say “sir,” -they always say sir. Javert—strong guy, but not so strong in the end. Very sad.

The Message translation of this Proverb is appropriate here: “First pride, then the crash - the bigger the ego, the harder the fall. Proverbs 16:18-19
