A woman in my office had never heard of Charlie Kirk….. two weeks after he was killed.

That’s an impressive level of not paying attention.

I disremember, did anyone actually disclaim P2025?

On the campaign trail, Donald Trump swore he had nothing to do with the conservative policy agenda known as Project 2025. He even called the proposals absolutely ridiculous.

Wasn’t sure if you were serious, but, apparently, I can’t help myself.

I mean, how do you stop this?  This is the main problem with social media as a platform where people get their information. They found out they can just blatantly lie and not only will a good portion of Americans believe it, there is no fact checking in real time or afterwards. The lie takes root immediately. This is how we end up with an alternate reality. This is why we are too late and we can’t go back.

Was talking politics with a part-time administrative assistant in our office yesterday. She's probably early 70's, from a tiny town in North Texas, lovely lady overall. Grew up Republican, considers herself an independent, pro-choice, votes in every election.

She has no idea what's going on in this country. ICE and National Guard stuff, Hegseth meeting with military officials, why the government shut down, etc. She says she can't stand Fox News or MSNBC, she occasionally watches the Sunday morning shows. She doesn't like Trump but not an automatic opposition voter.

Was just a reminder to me that so many people are checked out or not paying attention to anything.

I wish my parents would check out like that. Instead they’ve been brainwashed by Fox and Newsmax. My mom actually said they’ll watch the local news sometimes to “hear the other side.”

It's a very long list, but people actually believing that Trump had nothing to do with Project 2025--nor any inclination to implement it--was possibly the best example of how fucking stupid the American populace is. Including many fine posters on this website.

I see that and raise you this

Agreed, this is the kind of shit that makes it feel impossible to get this country on track.

It’s good to balance out right-wing media with the firefighter’s charity chili cook off.

The type of people who think the post Watergate reaction was just partisan politics as usual.

Maybe Democrats should start lying. If you can't beat 'em . . .

No.

I know this has been an argument on Surly for a while now. Play their game and beat them. Do whatever it takes to win.

No.

We can't put a band-aid on this. This shit has to hit rock bottom and Trump voters need to willingly reject his horrific "project".  If Dems start lying, it's definitely all over. The line is already in the sand, they cannot cross it.

One impact of the impasse is that telehealth visits for Medicare recipients will no longer be reimbursed effective October 1. This has a major impact on rural Medicare recipients that have enjoyed access to specialists via telehealth. They will now be forced to find transportation to a city that has the specialist they need or go without care.

I don't know what the pocket insignium is, but it scares me.

If I were a little hungrier, I'd eat him.

We’re all in Austin so I assume they think they’re getting an ultra liberal slant which makes it even more ridiculous.

I think earlier in this thread or maybe Heds and The Boys that this Sgt. Major fella is/was a Green Beret, Delta operator with serious street cred.

Ain’t lying if it’s true. Republicans are the party of pedophiles.

To me it’s more mind melting that Democrats chose this strategy in the first place.

MAGA thought is so engrained that nothing short of an existential crisis to these people can dislodge them from nostalgia-laden, hate fueled, misinformed reality that they find themselves in.

MAGA rejecting democrats when democrats try to limit the pain that’s about to engulf them is actually the least surprising thing about this shutdown.

That appears to be Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Weimer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Weimer

And the badge you are questioning is the Master Military Freefall Parachutist badge. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Freefall_Parachutist_Badge
