Heresy perhaps but Sneakers might be my favorite. RIP to a legit old school silver screen legend.

Sneakers is great. I rented it like a dozen times before bought it on iTunes. Pretty much the perfect late night movie after football.

His Granddad built the house my wife's Aunt currently lives in and that's where he spent summers growing up.

I think it was like 15-20 years ago my wife's Aunt gets a call from "Bob's people" explaining he would like to come visit the house and relive memories.  She had no idea the history.

He shows up and proceeds to spend several hours telling her and my wife's uncle about the story of his granddad building it and his memories of the times he spent here.

They are to call him Bob, as that's what his friends call him, and if they ever want to come to Sundance Film Festival, please call him and they will be his special guest.  They never took him up on that.

My MIL was some kinda pissed she wasn't notified ahead of time he was coming (they didn't tell anyone).  Lol.

That's a great story.  I assume somewhere near central Austin given the age?

I think I'd classify it as Tarrytown, but I don't exactly know the Tarrytown borders.

It's a really nice stone house

So many great roles.  And a huge supporter of independent film.

Jeremiah Johnson is my favorite of his movies, but Butch/Sundance and The Sting are right up there, too.

He also wrote a book for National Geographic that I really enjoy -- The Outlaw Trail.

RIP, Mr. Redford

i feel like y'all are sleeping on legal eagles. that's a mistake.

I named my three faves, but there are several of his movies I will watch anytime they're on, including River Runs, Sneakers, All the President's Men, Old Man & the Gun, 3 Days of the Condor, Tell Them Willie Boy is Here, Brubaker, and this one just to name some of them.

One of the all times greats.  This hurts.  His closing narration in A river runs through it still gives me chills.

This is poetry that even Robert Frost or Walt Whitman would envy

Fuck it, I'll say it -- He was great in The Way We Were.

Also, Ordinary People might have been the greatest directorial debut ever.

Great in Out of Africa too.

the thing about Redford is that we all have our favorites and our top tens, but if there's a Redford movie on TV we're probably watching that one, too

@henrygandorf's comment on Legal Eagles for example

this would hit harder if Mom were still alive to mourn him

my parents collected Navajo weavings... Mom found out that Redford had touched a rug in a gallery, and she bought it on the spot

Damn shitty news today.

Sneakers is one of my faves. So damn good, among so much of his work.

RIP to one of the greats

Sneakers is a great movie and in fact a bit ahead of its time with the whole "technodork turned technobro goes bad" plot line.

He was a gifted actor and a good director but no.

Can't remember all the details but there was a story about him and Newman when Newman died. They were friends off camera and Redford got tired of Newman always talking auto racing so he found an old wrecked Porsche and had it delivered to Paul's house with no explanation.  Later Newman returned it as some sort of a lump of car. Redford had it made into a lawn ornament and sent it back

Spy Game should be getting more run on here. Probably my favorite late era acting role for Redford.

I saw a photo of that stone house in an Austin book years ago with the caption identifying it as the former Redford home.

Young Bob made it possible for Mrs Llama to achieve at least half of her quality orgasms back in the day (indirectly).  I particularly liked Three Days of the Condor.  Never felt at ease around postmen after that one.
