“Fundamentals are a crutch for the talentless”. -Kenny Powers. Also I think he was just trying to poke the ball to left and not crush a bomb.

His hands were so quick.  He just waits forever on the ball.

Pretty great.

Fat fuck wouldn't hit .200 in today's game.

Must have hurt like he'll to swing a bat in those days. No gloves, bat's not at today's standards,  ball was probably hard as a rock, catch one wrong.... you can see Ruth shaking his left hand at the end.

Wow Lou, sucked for those 5 pitches.  Based on that, he was way overrated and should have been a minor asterisk in baseball history.

^ That's what I was thinking. They barely got anything to hit in that whole clip.

Also love the recklessness of not having a cage and of course no fan netting. Older coach was hitting fungos like 5 feet away from the plate, other guys standing around where a foul ball could kill them. When men were men

Did they have sock nets back then? Was the pitcher throwing off the mound for bp?

That video quality is amazingly good.  Their messing around bp swings don't look like a combined 296 WAR.

He wasn't the luckiest man on the face of the earth that day, that's for sure

Never understood how Babe could hit with that horrible back hitch in his swing.  He must have had eyes like a fucking hawk.

Also guys weren't throwing it 95.

That said, something that is so awesome about baseball is how little it's changed in almost 200 years. You can take Gehrig's swing and put it in any era and bat .250.

Yeah, but Babes swing was pretty much the same 85 or 95 high baller.  In that clip it seems the Babe swung at, and connected with more pitches than Gerhig.

Ruth had absurdly quick hands and reaction time. His mechanics were terrible judging by today's standards, but most folks run the wrong way with that argument.

If Babe Ruth played today his talent would have been noticed quickly and he would have been trained how to swing "correctly" against modern pitching. The question of Babe Ruth playing today with the same training methods and technique he used in the 1920s is stupid. If he played today he wouldn't use the same training methods and technique.

And the spectators wore coats & ties not only to games, but to bp.

Nor would he use his 40 oz bat .

What is the back story on this footage, was it recently uncovered and/or restored using modern techniques, or has it been around for a while and just happened to resurface on Twitter?
