CG Cason Wallace, Richardson (Richardson, Texas) - 2022: On3 Top 100 ranking: No. 7 (five-star): Wallace begins his official visit process this weekend to Kentucky. The Wildcats are expected to make a major NIL announcement today, which is perfect timing when you have a five-star on campus. Texas is scheduled to receive an official visit Sept 3-5. There is the thought on the Kentucky and Texas side that the decision will come from those two schools. With Tennessee scheduled to receive a second official visit Sept. 17th weekend (legal in basketball, different calendar school year), IT is not ready to make that leap. There remains confidence on the Volunteer side of this recruitment.

I kid who goes to a (close to) top boarding school in the country is "warm" with two schools and "warmer" with only one. And Texas, Kansas, Miami, and Oregon aren't among those schools.

"Good. ’Cause we’re adding a little something to this month’s sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac El Dorado.  Anyone want to see second prize?  Second prize’s a set of steak knives.  Third prize is you’re fired." - Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross

Anyone seen a post official update on Wallace?

He released his top 4 after his UK visit last week. After his visit, he got quite a few predictions to UK. UK thinks they lead big. They even cancelled a visit with a similar guard. But no “official” updates outside his own top 4.

The Texas Longhorns recruiting board has undergone some changes in recent weeks, Chris Beard and staff have shifted gears on some prospects, and adjusted based on which prospects are likely to go pro.

Texas has one of the top guards in the 2022 class committed,

No. 14 Arterio Morris (Dallas Kimball). The Longhorns are looking to build out the class from a trio of top targets.

Cason Wallace the top target

The No. 7 ranked Cason Wallace (Richardson, Texas) continues to be the top target on the board. The official visit September 4-6 was very successful. Both 5-star Wallace and his mother have been very positive in their reviews about the Texas experience. Chris Beard and staff were in Richardson last week, and were again met with positivity from the Wallace family.

Kentucky continues to show some confidence in this recruitment. The Wildcats sent only assistant Jai Lucas to see Wallace last week, which is seen a very confident sign.

Wallace will head back to Knoxville this weekend to see Rick Barnes and the Vols. The 6-foot-3 combo guar made an official visit the first weekend of June, and at that point the Volunteers were considered the big leader.

A fourth official visit, to UTSA, is possible. The Wallace family is loyal. Keaton Wallace just finished a very positive experience playing in San Antonio.

Wallace is planning to announce his decision on his birthday, November 7.

Jordan Walsh heads to Austin this weekend

The No. 22-ranked Jordan Walsh (Link Year Prep via DeSoto, Texas) will be making an official visit to Texas this weekend. The 6-foot-7 long-limbed and bouncy small forward made an official visit to Arizona State last weekend, and has Kansas scheduled September 24.

Walsh made June officials to Arkansas and TCU with the Razorbacks considered a legit option.

Texas has a desire to get more athletic on the win, and Walsh certainly fits that desire. He impressed Texas during the live period in July.

Jarace Walker could make official visit

The Longhorns are working to set up an official visit with No. 32 Jarace Walker (IMG Academy). The 6-foot-8 skilled power forward has Houston and Alabama fighting it out at the top of a recruitment that also includes Auburn and Ohio State. He has made official visits to all four schools. Houston has a new sell on the recruiting front, being a in Power 5 conference. And make no mistake, the new Big 12 will be a terrific basketball league.

Texas has work cut out for them on this recruitment as the Longhorns are pretty late to the game.

Hardwood Nuggets: Recruiting heating up in 2023; notes on key 2022 targets
NICK HARRIS

Since arriving in Austin, the Texas staff has put a solid foot forward in not only recruiting the 2022 class, but the 2023 class as well.

Despite some challenges along the way (recruiting has definitely not been the breeze that the transfer hunt has been), Texas is still in position to finish with a top ten class in 2022 and a nationally elite class in 2023.

Since the opening of the live evaluation period, the Texas staff has been on the road constantly across the country checking in with recruits in almost a dozen states while also continuing to hammer things home within state borders.

Behind a strong Beard recruiting staff made up of assistants Ulric Maligi, Rodney Terry, Jerrance Howard, Chris Ogden and Bob Donewald Jr., Texas has the opportunity to become a recruiting power moving forward.

In this article, we'll take a look at where Texas is looking in the 2022 class after missing out on some top targets while also diving into the class of 2023 to see where things stand with Texas' top targets now that trends are starting to show.

HOW IS TEXAS LOOKING TO FINISH 2022?

The 2022 class has had its fair share of ups and downs since Chris Beard took over as head coach, but the potential for the class still remains high. After landing five-star point guard Arterio Morris over the summer, the potential for the class only grew, but it made the race for more five-star backcourt talent a little bit harder.

Texas pursued Keyonte George to no avail, and the same fortunes are lining up for five-star combo guard Cason Wallace who is all but surely going to Kentucky after a strong recruiting effort from former Texas staffer Jai Lucas.

However, this hasn't stopped Texas from continuing to pursue five-star talent as the Longhorns have looked more towards the frontcourt to find a match in the 2022 class.

Five-star small forward Jordan Walsh took an official visit to Texas for the football game against Rice, and the early returns are that Texas did everything they had to do to remain a legitimate threat in this race moving forward. That being said, Arkansas is putting up a solid effort as well and at times, the Razorbacks look to be the team to beat. This is a two-horse race at this point, but with a Memphis official visit upcoming and given the way Penny Hardaway has been recruiting recently, you can't count out the Tigers just yet neither.

Texas will welcome in another five-star official visitor in October as Montverde Academy (Fla.) five-star small forward Dillon Mitchell will make the trip to Texas after including the Longhorns in his top three on Monday.

Only recently has Chris Beard and his staff really started to turn up the heat on Mitchell, but it looks to be paying off nevertheless. After multiple trips to Montverde and meetings with his family, Texas has gone from a non-contender to contending with Florida State and Tennessee.

“Texas actually just started getting involved in my recruitment not too long ago but from the jump they’ve been on me heavy," Mitchell told 247Sports' Dushawn London in this report. "They’ve already come down to visit Montverde, and visit me twice now. My mom even came up twice to have a meeting with them. Even though they just started recruiting me they’ve been showing how interested they are and really believe I can thrive in their system.”

TEXAS KEYING IN ON 2023 TARGETS DURING EVALUATION PERIODS

The live evaluation periods have given the Texas staff a lot to think about when it comes to recruiting the 2023 class as the Longhorns are keying in on multiple junior prospects.

Most notably, Texas has been active in the recruitment of El Paso (Texas) Chapin four-star shooting guard KJ Lewis courtesy of assistant coach Rodney Terry. Terry was the first coach to offer Lewis when he was the head coach at UTEP, and that relationship has carried over to Texas. Lewis confirmed with me this week that he will be making an unofficial visit to Texas on Oct. 8 to see everything in-person for the first time. Arizona State, Kansas and UCLA will most likely serve as the biggest competition, but it's Texas' to lose early on.

Additionally, Texas has been looking into Louisiana in the 2023 class for possible additions as New Orleans (La.) Isidore Newman four-star combo guard Chris Lockett Jr. (already took an unofficial visit) and New Orleans (La.) Eleanor McMain three-star power forward Corey Chest are two recruits that Texas has been engaging with recently.

Another out-of-state prospect that Texas has already generated a ton of interest for is Gilbert (Ariz.) Perry small forward Cody Williams who landed his first offer from Texas back in June and has been in steady communication since.

In looking at some recruits that Texas may not be the leader for at the moment, but are still in the race, McKinney (Texas) four-star shooting guard Ja'Kobe Walter is a winnable recruit for Texas out of the DFW Metroplex. Alabama has made the biggest impression so far, but a solid unofficial visit to Texas earlier this month put Texas arguably in the No. 2 spot. Depending on how numbers shake out over the next two seasons, it could be entirely plausible to allow Walter and Lewis to end up in the 2023 class.

Duncanville (Texas) five-star power forward Ron Holland will help lead an NCAA team deep into March Madness, and that team could be Texas if the Longhorns continue to do solid work in this recruitment. Memphis is the leader at this point, and once again it'll be hard to beat Penny Hardaway, but Texas is right there as well. Benefitting Texas is Holland's close relationship with KJ Lewis as the pair have kicked around the idea of playing at the next level together. This will be a national battle, but Texas will certainly be in the mix.

Another name to keep an eye on is Fort Bend (Texas) Elkins four-star shooting guard Chris Johnson. Johnson is a big fan of the Texas program and has shown the Longhorns a lot of love in the past. However, this will ultimately come down to how hard Texas pushes considering the wealth of talent in-state at shooting guard. LSU, TCU and a possible Kansas offer will all be contenders, but it is a winnable recruitment for Chris Beard.

Another recruit that has shown a lot of love is Beaumont (Texas) United combo guard Wesley Yates. After helping lead United to a state championship last season, Yates has seen a huge recruitment surge, but has kept Texas among the contenders. Baylor is the leader early on in what is shaping up to be a heavyweight in-state battle. Considering that Houston landed Terrance Arceneaux in 2022, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Cougars also throw their hat in the ring to keep the momentum going in the 409.
