Texas Recruiting Notes 2022 - Idiotic Slapfights Unrelated To 2022 Recruiting

Recommended Posts

Patton reminds me of my old coworker who kept repeatedly doubling down on  Enron stock that day it was crashing just waiting for it to turn around.   I think he lost about 200k in one day.  At the time that was the most I had seen a person lose in a few hours on stupid decision making, but this kid may have just topped that.

He said he and his family really liked Waco.

The last few times I’ve driven through Waco I notice these billboards for a lawyer named Vic that damn near look like our buddy@THUJONE’s work of art. Let’s say Patton reads surly and became enamored with those billboards. We can’t be mad at him for that can we? Haha. On a serious note I’m glad he picked Baylor. He seemed like trouble with a low ceiling.

Spoiler

With four-star EDGE prospect Derrick Brown in the fold, the 2022 class sits at 15 commitments.

The class has taken some impactful hits in June, but there are plenty of five-star and four-star prospects remaining on the board to provide opportunity for Steve Sarkisian and staff to sign a top 10 class.

This morning, IT takes a look at where the class stands after a crazy summer has concluding.

K Will Stone, Austin Regents School
LS Lance St. Louis, Williams Field (AZ)

Top 13 remaining targets:
WR Evan Stewart, Frisco Liberty - ***Must get designation***

WR Brenen Thompson, Spearman
The 10.4 speedster made a second visit to Texas A&M this summer over the weekend. Fall OV’s to Alabama, Clemson or Texas is going to happen. June OV’s to Texas A&M, Oregon and Oklahoma State are in the rearview mirror.

TE Jaleel Skinner, IMG Academy (Green, SC)
Texas received a visit in June, and made Greer’s top 5. The competition is the Southeast with Clemson, Alabama, Florida State and Miami.

OT Kelvin Banks, Summer Creek - ***Must get designation***
Texas isn’t backing off the Oregon verbal. The Longhorns staff remains all in, and has been talking to Banks since his July announcement for the Ducks.

OT Kam Dewberry, Atascocita
Texas and Dewberry will meet for a second time when the 6-foot-4, 315-pounder makes an OV this fall. Oklahoma is also set for an official visit in September. Texas A&M, Ohio State and LSU received June OV’s.

OT/G Neto Umeozulu, Allen High
The 6-foot-4 long-armed prospect made an unofficial visit in recent days, and Texas is working to get him back for an official visit in the fall. The mystery recruitment of the 2022 cycle, Umeozulu made on official visit to USC in June. Alabama, Ohio State and Texas A&m are potential OV’s in the fall.

OG Devon Campbell, Arlington Bowie - ***Must get designation***
Texas got Campbell on campus twice over the summer, and still has an official visit in the fall. The Longhorns main competition is Oklahoma. Alabama and LSU will also receive fall OV’s. USC received a June OV as well.

DT Jaray Bledsoe, Marling High
Texas received Bledsoe’s lone June visit. The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder will be back in the fall for an OV. Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and LSU could also receive visits.

DT Aaron Bryant, Southaven (MS)
The 6-foot-4, 305-pounder was on campus at Ole Miss Friday, and does plan to use an official visit to his fathers Alma mater in the fall. Texas has been ascending, especially with the move to the SEC. Texas A&M is also in the mix, but could be out due to numbers.

EDGE/DL Justice Finkley, Hewitt-Trussville (AL)
The Texas target was on campus at Alabama over the weekend, and still has an OV remaining to Alabama if he chooses. Texas and Colorado are the contenders that are waiting to see if Nick Saban goes all in.

LB Harold Perkins, Cy Park
The five-star has Texas in the hunt along with Texas A&M, LSU, Oregon, Alabama and Florida. The uber athletic prospect wants to play in the SEC, so the move for Texas couldn't come at a better time. June OV's to Texas and Texas A&M are in the rearview mirror, but both will get unofficial visit this fall. Florida and Oregon will receive OV's. Alabama is the wildcard. LSU was the favorite growing up, and Perkins spins a lot of time in New Orleans with his father and uncle.

DB Bryce Anderson, Beaumont West Brook - ***Must get designation***
Anderson made visits to Texas and Texas A&M the last two days with a decision between the two SEC programs not expected until September. Texas has been fluctuating between heavy to slight favorite since April.

CB Denver Harris, North Shore - ***Must get designation***
People around the North Shore program are picking Alabama. One family member is pushing the Crimson Tide hard. Texas is right there in the fight. LSU has Corey Raymond, but it not expected to be the pick. Texas A&M remains fighting hard. A late September decision is planned.

WR Shazz Preston, St. James (LA)
Texas received a June OV. Like Stewart, this is an SEC battle with LSU, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi State in the mix.

WR Jordan Hudson, Garland High
Hudson is riding the high of being an SMU commit. In the next few months leading up to the December signing period, Texas is expected to push SMU to the limit.

WR C.J. Williams, Mater Dei (CA)
The 6-foot-2 sure handed receiver will announce between Notre Dame, USC and Texas August 8th. Notre Dame and Texas have been considered the favorites, but there is considerable pressure on the USC staff to win out for the highly publicized local product,

OG Earnest Greene, St. John Bosco (CA)
The 6-foot-4.5, 335-pound guard prospect made a vista to Austin in June, and could be back for an official visit in the fall. The official visit to Ohio State on September 11th is the one the competition currently fears the most.

DT Khurtiss Perry, Park Crossing (AL)
Perry may not be a take for Alabama at the end of the day, which certainly would help the schools in the mix. Auburn and Texas are two of those possibilities.

DL Quency Wiggins, Madison Prep (LA)
LSU is all in here. Wiggins will end up a take for Alabama if the first 2-3 games senior year resembles a standout camp performance. Texas has a strong connection to the Madison Prep staff to keep the Longhorns in it.

EDGE/DL Omari Abor, Duncanville High
Texas received a visit on Friday from the Ohio State lean. Alabama and LSU received June OV’s, and Texas A&M is also in the mix. Getting Abor back for an unofficial visit in the fall is a must for this recruitment to become real.

LB/EDGE Eoghan Kerry, Mater Dei (CA)

LB Lander Barton, Brighton (UT)

DB Larry Turner-Gooden, Bishop Alemany (CA)
The Arizona State verbal is scheduled to be back in Austin for a second time in October for an official visit. Arizona State will receive a November official visit. Penn State could also receive a visit in the fall, but isn’t considered a threat as of today

They've already got the #2 and 3 RBs in the country committed for 2022 though

I can't remember who exactly, but one of these guys isn't a solid commit to the dirt burglars.

On the other hand, Jamarion Miller considering OU because he wants to win the Heisman is not something I expected to hear.

Sawchuk and Brown are solid to them. They also feel good about the Barnes kid out of Nevada.

Off the top of my head, it’s not Tenaha?

The last I heard about Tenaha was years ago when the local cops were settling asset seizures and forfeitures on the side of the road. No need to get prosecutors, defense lawyers or those pesky judges involved

@UDontKnow @Schulz2.0 @Pdawg88

"OU's RB depth is thinning unexpectedly. This is the reason for Jamarion Miller's visit, yes?"
Yes, thin depth chart at RB going into 2021 and possible NFL entrants after the season.

"I can't remember who exactly, but one of these guys isn't a solid commit to the dirt burglars."
Raleek Brown has a child so there is the hypothesis that he'll end up staying in SoCal because of this. Plus, he's not a traditional RB. Of course, OU's lost RB late recently so I thing they're appropriately concerned.

"Sawchuk and Brown are solid to them. They also feel good about the Barnes kid out of Nevada."
"Nah, Barnes isn’t coming."
If you're betting on where Barnes will end up, take the field. I think that's what OU's doing.

Smart for the Sooners to be sending out more offers at RB. They need at least two RB in the 2022 class with low numbers to start with and Gray and Brooks possibly going to the NFL. Brown's more of a RB/WR, and there's some uncertainty in whether he'll end up in Norman. Barnes was crystal balled to OU but the Sooners will be fighting USC and Clemson and others for him. If OU gets 2 high school RB, I think that's fine. They can get one more in the portal.

OU's RB recruiting makes sense, unlike what's going on with the DL.

Patton saw Waco right? Like, with his eyes open? It's so hard to contemplate having offers from Texas and Michigan and choosing, willingly, to go to Baylor.

He committed to a defensive HC that prob sold him on starting sooner.  Also, their athletic department may have a stable closer to the practice field and stadium so that Patton can ride from the field to class and home games.  Texas needs to upgrade their equestrian program if they really want to compete with other instate universities, and that's going to take time.  Plus offensive and defensive linemen are going to require bigger horses.

It'll be interesting to see how many cancel their Texas OV's to visit aggy unofficially, or just commit to the maroon and vj.

"Hudson is riding the high of being an SMU commit."  In normal times, this sentence could be construed as sarcasm and borderline amusing.

Mike Roach said on Light The Tower on Friday that A&M is paying players to visit - said he can’t prove anything but that he’s been told by enough players that they went there to ‘check out the NIL’ that there is something going on and it’s not just a great power point presentation.

No shit mike? Everyone knows. Reporting this does nothing. We need to step our side up if we’re going to be moving to the SEC or we will get our shit pushed in.

The best thing about this video was Wells saying that the coaches were highlighting the program and not the SEC. Unlike the yokels to the east the conference doesn't define us and smart kids will realize the difference.
