Joe Biden 2022: Enter Dark Brandon

So apparently Fox News is running audio clips the obtained of President Biden leaving a voicemail of support for his son in 2018 like this is some kind of smoking gun. I don’t think this is going to play the way they think outside Trump’s base.

Seriously…I live in a country where the party in control of much of it, likely to re-take control, thinks that this is a gotcha.
A father….being a father, vexed, at the end of his rope, loving and supporting his son struggling with addiction. That is a gotcha. For fucks sake, what the fucking fuck is wrong with these fucking people? Every one of them should eat a fucking bullet and do the world a favor; if you’re that devoid of humanity and decency, you are a drain on this world and our species. You clearly hate this life and everyone in it, so leave it.
Goddammit, I’m fucking done. Biden leaves a message that makes him perhaps one of the most qualified men to hold a major office…and these fucks think it’s a negative. Goddammit.

just like the martha’s vineyard stunt, the gop has absolutely zero awareness of what moves “independent” voters. they only think what moves themselves and assume dumb shit.

people who think it’s a gotcha are way past saving.

They know what they are doing, scaring the shit out of voters and keep them voting for them, they are very good at it and it works…

right, but my point was that if independent voters see what happened in martha's vineyard and say, "good, maybe those liberal elites will see how it feels when these migrants show up on their front steps lol" then they're not really independent voters, are they?

the right is about playing to their base and suppressing/stealing votes.  they're not trying to win over any new voters with ideas or policy.

IMO the independent voters are always looking for a way to justify to themselves why they need to vote Republican, most of them lean R and sometimes vote d

It's because they are morons and at the last minute will always fall for the latest right-wing boogie man. If they are too dumb or lazy to know the difference, especially right now, they are definitely too dumb or lazy to put any effort into learning the truth. That's why it works.

There's a whole thread on this site that I reluctantly participated in about true god fearing christians, most of whom are eating this up, because mocking a man for loving his troubled son is definitely what jesus would do. It's right there in the bible, "so sayeth the lord, lib tears are delicious."

Spoiler

One of the nation’s largest railroad unions has rejected a contract with freight carriers, once again raising the possibility of a strike and the profound economic implications that go with it.

The rejection by the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division announced Monday comes just weeks after the Biden administration helped broker a deal between several unions and rail carriers, averting a walkout that could have debilitated the U.S. supply chain and hampered passenger service.

Members of the third-largest rail union rejected the proposed five-year contract 56 percent to 43 percent, officials said. Both sides have agreed to resume negotiations until at least Nov. 19, and railroads are expected to continue operating normally in the meantime.

President Biden was personally involved in the talks — as were three of his Cabinet secretaries, his top economic adviser and his chief of staff — that led to the deal hammered out last month. He hailed it as a win for both carriers and workers.

But many union members were skeptical from the start, with some telling The Washington Post that the details were opaque. The plan included a 24 percent pay increase by 2024 — bringing the average wage to $110,000 a year — and $1,000 annual bonuses for five years. It also ensured health-care co-pays and deductibles would not increase.

But it seemed to include only one paid sick day, even after union leaders had pushed for 15.

“Railroaders are discouraged and upset with working conditions and compensation and hold their employer in low regard. Railroaders do not feel valued,” BMWED President Tony D. Cardwell said in a statement Monday announcing the vote outcome. “They resent the fact that management holds no regard for their quality of life, illustrated by their stubborn reluctance to provide a higher quantity of paid time off, especially for sickness.”

The tentative pact stemmed from two years of negotiations between the carriers and unions, and the White House appointed an emergency board in early July to mediate. One of the sticking points was a points-based attendance policy adopted by some of the largest carriers earlier this year. Those policies can penalize workers for missing work for routine doctor’s appointments or family emergencies.

Workers had pushed for more flexibility in this area, and some seemed disappointed when the tentative deal appeared to include only one paid sick day.

The proposed deal was celebrated as a big achievement for Biden, who has pledged to be the “most pro-union president” in U.S. history. On Tuesday, a White House spokeswoman said that Biden remains focused on avoiding a rail shutdown.

“We stand ready to support the parties in their efforts, and continue to urge both sides to finish their work and avoid even the threat of a shutdown in the future,” Robyn Patterson said in an emailed statement to The Post.

A railroad strike would have major implications for shipping and commuter operations across the country, especially leading into the busy holiday shipping season. It could also spawn layoffs and further impair the already struggling supply chain.

The two largest rail unions will soon cast their votes on the proposed agreement. One of them, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, released a notice to members this weekend, seeking to dispel what President Dennis R. Pierce called “misinformation and misrepresentations” spreading about the deal.

“There are groups, many from outside our Union, working overtime pushing outright lies about the tentative agreement, how it was reached, and what the membership should do next,” he wrote.

He urged members to vote, “regardless of how you view the tentative agreement.”

A coalition representing rail carriers said in a statement that it was “disappointed” by the BMWED vote, but emphasized that a strike would not occur immediately.

This would be extremely bad.

Thanks O'Biden. Of course its his fault that railroad conglomerates are shitty employers. Deregulate because capitalism but still blame the President (as long as they're a Democrat). Also, negotiations will continue. I know you're praying like hell that supply lines shut down so you can blame O'Biden despite the pain it would cause everyone, but it'll get worked out, the railroad companies have too much to lose and Biden will stay on them to follow through on the issues they made significant headway on during the prior negotiations.

If, IF, a strike happened, it wouldn't be until after midterms.  Because they worked in a cooling down period previously so they could continue to negotiate if any of the unions scuttled the deal.

Biden warns there will be 'consequences' for Saudi Arabia after oil production cut

The president did not specify what action the U.S. might take, but he indicated that Congress would be involved.

President Joe Biden warned Tuesday that Saudi Arabia would face "consequences" after OPEC+ last week announced the biggest cut in oil production since the start of the pandemic.

Senior Democrats on Capitol Hill have condemned the decision by Saudi Arabia, the de facto leader of the oil-producing alliance, to reduce the global supply of petroleum. Higher oil prices are seen as helping Russia, the world's second-largest oil exporter, finance its war in Ukraine.

"There’s going to be some consequences for what they’ve done with Russia," Biden said of Saudi Arabia in an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper. “I’m not going to get into what I’d consider and what I have in mind. But there will be — there will be consequences.”

Also, I suspect that tenderness by males especially toward other males (especially those perceived as your 'enemy')  is viewed as weakness. Men can cry in the locker room when they have won a championship or when their dog dies but our culture has difficulty with the nuances between keeping a stiff upper lip and shouldering burdens w/o complaint versus compassionate understanding and empathy.

The level of vindictiveness in our population, the glee over another's suffering, and the cruelty. Those are mainstays of authoritarianism.

It’s alpha to write fawning love letters to North Korean dictators. It’s gay as fuck to show love and compassion for your addict son and be a father.

The GOP doesn’t understand because it’s a party of absent fathers like Walker and Trump. Children are props, not things to love.

Also Hunter is all Joe has left of his first family. His first wife and daughter died in that accident and Beau is gone. Like JFC, the monsters in this country.

This country was built on cruelty, suffering, and authoritarianism. Authoritarians cruelly took the land and property from the original dwellers (we called them indigenous people's earlier this week...) who were forced to suffer.  Then, people were cruelly taken from another land far away, labeled as property, and forced suffer (and endure death and dismemberment of not only the persons, but of entire family and community ecosystem) to create an agricultural society for the the feudal authoritarians. There was a Civil War over maintaining this feudal/authoritarian system.

I know people don't like it when it's said (especially by the uppity and well-spoken) but "Chickens coming home to roost" is not just a saying meant to piss people off.

Yes, I know Feudal Authoritarianism is supposed to be a juxtaposition, but there's level to this shit...  I'm not referring to government systems only (if that isn't clear.)

I’ve seen some complaints on the internet about this. Repubs bitching about how it can’t be politicized before the midterms now despite the fact that it’s smart to put a cool down period in because it’s the common thing to do in business negotiations.

if Trump was president, these same mouth breathing idiots would suddenly be saying these train people should shut up and get back in line to support fuhrer Trump. This country has some toxic as fuck people. Even if trump was president, I wouldn’t want a rail strike because of how bad supply chains are already hurting and how much it would damage the economy.

Probably not the right thread for this, but are you basically just saying we had this coming?

If so, I don't really agree.  Of course what you said about our history is correct, but I don't see how that relegates us to be doomed to crumble under an authoritarian regime now.

Not at all saying we had this coming... It was never 'coming'. It's always been this way, but it was ok as long as it was 'others'. Enough people support 'their side' taking over and the list of 'others' has expanded.  Not saying the country is doomed to crumble. It could. It might. It hasn't before, but it's young.  But, again, this place was not built on us treating us well, and it didn't become the great capitalist society that it did by us treating us well (it could have, but didn't). The odds and history say we have this coming. I'd much rather be way wrong.
