Awesome.  Give the two sides something else to fight about.  CSPAN ratings going through the roof in the short-term.

I guess if you mean going from 100 people watching to 200 people watching, then yes. The fact is that the average citizen only cares about jersey color and has no interest in watching how our government works (or doesn't work). This board is an outlier.

Maybe they should read the part of the Bible where it talks about sowing the wind and reaping the whirlwind.

Yeah....the problem is, they run it through the "racist moron" filter, and by their reckoning, that passage means "everything in this world is the fault of woke Antifa Soros and all those dirty mexicans."  American Christian Nationalists actually grasping a single accurate theological point from the Bible is something that will never, ever happen.

So, I presume McCarthy could come back out of this as Speaker if he is voted in again?

Lol. All the Dems switch and support McCarthy, voting him back in.

99% sure he could try to be elected speaker again, but he gave up virtually everything possible the first time.  What more could he offer the the crazies this time around?

If Santos showed up dressed like that, I'd fight anybody that wanted him kicked out of Congress.

Dude makes me think there might actually be something to that conspiracy theory of lizard people running around in human suits.

Why would the Dems to that unless the only two choices were McCarthy or someone from the Gaetz faction?  There's no reason to believe McCarthy would follow through on anything he might promise for their help.

McHenry can only do 3 things as speaker pro tempore:

  1. recess the House
  2. adjourn the chamber
  3. recognize speaker nominations

They can't do shit without a speaker...which I guess is business as usual for this group.

Profit?

Steve Womack (Arkansas) says many in the caucus will want to re-nominate McCarthy, but if he can't win, they will have to turn in a "different direction" - so they may not even have a Plan B yet

Vincente Gonzalez (TX) offers up McHenry or Brian Fitzpatrick as compromise candidates that would get his vote. He's ready to deal - but "it's not free!"  He also said:

A Moderate or at least normal enough that he can keep control of his caucus & get the peoples work done. McCarthy has been the worst negotiator in Congressional history

Well,  bye. Just go hangout in Bakersfield and call it a career. When you are already a proven liar that tries to make deals with people who hate you and are even worse human beings than you, well, this is called getting what you deserve. Sargeant Schultz could’ve done a better job as Speaker.

The funniest part?

McCarthy is one of the House GOP's best fundraisers.  That's a big part of being Speaker.  They just jettisoned their best fundraiser.  Who is going to make up for that? Trump? He'll keep 99.95% of the profits from anything you sign on to do with him.

This.  For all his faults.  He raised corporate dark money better than anybody in DC besides McConnell.  He worked well with the Senate.  The silent, but powerful, Main Street Caucus of his party likes and respects him.  His biggest flaw was that he thought he could corral the stupidest wing of his party because he is literally smarter than they are.  But when people have absolutely nothing to lose, they are hard to control.  And he just found that out the hardest way possible.

There is no way the official Speaker role is left vacant or filled with a Pro Tem placeholder for 15 more months under a Democratic President.  No way in the world they let that happen.  Only two questions are

-How bloody does this replacement/re-election fight get?

-Is the litmus test set by Trump and his Capitol Hill minions become "Whoever gets a floor vote passed in order to begin Biden Impeachment hearings with teeth, not this performative committee JV display from last month...gets Trump approval and thus more than enough votes to get another speaker installed who'll go through the hearings at least until Convention season."???????  That's where this goes.

Chat GPT just told me this

The absence of a Speaker of the House is a significant disruption to the legislative process. It means that the House cannot pass any bills, and it also means that the House cannot investigate or impeach the president.

I'll be curious to see if their big money donors start pressuring some "moderate" Republicans to cut a deal with Democrats.  Obviously there's plenty of real lunatic billionaire money that supports GOP efforts to destroy the federal government that is going to be fine with this, but corporate America and businesses that aren't led by certifiable lunatics don't want to see another shutdown and sure as shit can't be too comfortable supporting the GOP going forward, now that it's clear the "adults" in the party have lost control.

Who the fuck would want this job. You are basically looking for someone to walk in the building and agree to be the terrorists new hostage and do your negotiating from the position of “gun to head.” There’s no moderate out there that can control the GOP caucus.

Bingo.  There are only two options when dealing with terrorists: 1) give in to their demands, and put them in charge, or 2) shoot them all.

Which option do you think the cowardly, craven, spineless GQP will pick?  Gosh, it's a mystery.

The GQP long ago put all their chips on the table on the MAGA bet.  There's no backing out now.   It's the old bit about allowing a drop of poison into the punch bowl.  Now it's no longer punch, it's just a big bowl of poison.  They invited the poison in.  Now, that's all they are.  They'll own it, and soon enough, fully embrace it.  This only gets worse for now, not any better.

That was my smart ass post in response to Mccarthy’s “bring it!”

Pro tip on ubet posts: always assume unfunny and smart-ass - and work from there.
