Judge fines Trump $10,000 for violating gag order

From CNN's Jeremy Herb and Lauren del Valle

Donald Trump has been fined $10,000 by a New York judge after appearing to reference a court clerk, in violation of a gag order.

"As the trier of fact, I find that the witness is not credible," Judge Arthur Engoron said after hearing from the former president under oath.

Engoron held a surprise hearing over comments Trump made outside the courtroom earlier Wednesday that could have been referring to a court clerk and therefore violating a gag order.

"I’m going to hold a hearing right now about that," the judge said.

Engoron asked Trump who he was referring to when he talked about the "partisan person" next to the judge.

"You and Cohen," Trump responded, referring to his former attorney and fixer Michael Cohen, who has been testifying Wednesday.

"Are you sure you didn’t meant the person on the other side?" Engoron asked, referring to his clerk.

"Yes I’m sure," Trump responded.

Engoron excused Trump after attorneys from both sides declined to ask him any questions. "The witness is excused," Engoron said.

"Thank you your honor," Trump responded as he returned to his seat at the defense table.

lulz.  I hope every judge uses this exact line going forward whenever he is on the stand for anything.

Or if you dont want to read an article, here's a video:

I do not confuse him saying he's going to do things with him actually doing things. Historically, he does a lot of check writing, but not a lot of check cashing.

You asked what he "wanted to do." He's telling you what he WANTS to do. Whether he accomplishes it is entirely differerent. I'm sure he wanted to make money owning a Casino too, but he manged to fuck that up.

The Casino went broke. He made money.

While you may be correct, this is a dangerous game to play.

Even if he doesn't give a fuck about these things personally, the people he would put into positions of power absolutely would try to do these things.

Well, if he had said "I was talking about your clerk" then that would have been quite a bit different, no?  Trump is just stupid enough to do that.

And you kinda actually do have to hear what he says to evaluate his credibility.

Now this... this I can fear. Other people suck, too.

Bet the Secret Service never thought they'd have to come up with a protocol for a president to be in a jail cell.

I guess they'd be posted just outside the cell.

Let's find out!

They can leave him there, he'll be as safe as Jeffery Epstein

Was he through testifying?  ETA:  Ohhh, dummy.  I thought he was actually taking the stand in the case itself.

Also, I see that the ACLU has entered an apperance as amicus curiae on the DC gag order appeal.  Fascists.  https://www.npr.org/2023/10/25/1208409526/trump-gag-order-first-amendment

Trump is rarely called a liar to his face other than in the political arena, much less face immediate consequences.  Arthur Engoron is a national treasure.

I call bullshit.  Even if completely unexpected, I find it absolutely impossible that Trump's "stormed" occurred at a speed that required multiple agents to have to be "chasing after him."  Those guys have honed lightning fast reactions for several years.  There is no physical universe in which they'd have to catch up to Trump.

If the sketch artist got any of Donald "Orange Lightnin'!" Trump's jailbreak sprint, I'd pay museum-level money for the piece.

Kutti's knowledge of our financial and tax systems is precisely what I've come to expect from MAGA "buncha freeloaders in this country, wanting handouts" Nation.

You can't just unethically fundraise $231,000.  Not use it for the stated purpose.  Then transfer it, tax-free to another person for yet another unstated purpose.  You can gift somebody $231k for medical expense reimbursement (no, not elective breast augmentation Boebert!) or certified educational expenses (no, not Trump University you fucking morons).  But you can't just say, I need that $231k for my lawyerin' shit 'cause I tried to overturn the Republic.  But that's how these people think.  None of it's a surprise anymore.

Donald obviously has some assets.  Watching his children and Melania fight over them after he's dead is going to be the greatest reality TV show of all time.
