This nil bs needs to come to its ultimate conclusion where athletic departments pay players directly and there are salary caps and shit.

You do know that the only people who benefit from salary caps are the owners right?

Not sure exactly why you're endorsing making college even more like the NFL particularly when it actually removes an advantage for Texas.

That's always been the disadvantage of having a DC who wasn't a good secondary coach first.   He doesn't seem to be able to correct this sort of thing.  We just wander along blaming it on lack of pass rush, youth at DB, and eventually DB coach.

Wow, I had typed up something earlier comparing you to a more informed/likable version of @6th Street after reading this pessimistic comment, but I deleted it thinking it was an unfair characterization and too insulting to you. Now I see that it was a rather prescient inclination, as he decided to chime in on the same subject, perfectly illustrating my point.

I don't understand how salary caps would even work. Who enforces it? The NCAA sends a letter to Lamborghini of Austin that they can't sign a guy up as a brand ambassador because he's already made too much money from his other sponsorships? The player is disqualified once his reported income from outside business deals hits a certain level?

Should the NFL be doing that with Mahomes's State Farm contract?

IMO Salary caps only work for what the school could pay...not the actual NIL deals.

Yes, the idea would be to eliminate collectives in some vein. Of course, our collective was designed specifically to work on the same model as typical NIL endorsement deals, so then how do they restrict us? Good luck.

Since the 1950s, there have been D-1 salary caps and barriers to movement of players(NCAA regulations). Now there aren’t.

The old rules allowed smaller programs to punch above their weight, while restricting larger ones (and gave room for cheaters). Most ofFBS wants to go back to the old ways. It suited them better. Change is stressful.

I’m hopeful that we won’t have salary caps, revenue sharing and barriers to movement again.

Side note- the Sooner ON3 board is less optimistic about Williams now.

I’ve heard the 9.95ers comment before that Venable really pushes for the commit, on visits. It probably works better on HSers than transfers. I will feel more optimistic if Williams makes it to Austin as planned. We want him at Texas. We really, really, don’t want him at OU.

Damonic Williams, DL, Mission Hills (Calif.) Bishop Alemany - *TCU transfer

The former TCU standout made a visit to Oklahoma for the Sooners spring game over the weekend. While there is positivity coming out of Norman following the visit, OTF isn't so sure Oklahoma will be the pick. Williams, 6-2 and 320, remains scheduled to visit Texas Tuesday and Wednesday, and the Longhorns are a true threat in this recruitment. There is a feeling on The Forty Acres that Williams would be a on field and culture fit. He has a lot of the same qualities and chip on the shoulder that helped lead Byron Murphy to tremendous success as a college player. Visits to Colorado and LSU are scheduled after Texas, and Oregon is trying.

OTF percentage: 51%

Cornerback

The Texas Longhorns could very well take a cornerback in the portal. But it would be a long speed need/fit to go against X wide receivers in the SEC plus a culture fit. OTF does not expect Texas to go after a questionable culture fit.

Not exactly subtle about the Cormani McClain knock there

Guys talking about salary caps and such, whatever happens with collective bargaining will still have zero impact on NIL. Outside parties can do whatever they want with players with the NCAA being put to sleep, whether these are corporate deals or boosters still doing work, players will get paid outside of any salaries. Not saying collectives wouldn't diminish in value, because they would. Just saying that the days of someone else paying guys while we idiots as Texas fans look at with our noses up are long gone. Moving forward, Texas is one of the big boys in all of this irrespective of how involved or uninvolved the schools get.

Do you feel knowing how the old money is with regards to player compensation that if teams are able to pay players and have their own budget through the university that it would affect donations to our NIL efforts?

I just said as much, and it will be true everywhere. Collectives will still exist and be a tool that a HC will lean on, same as corporate.

Walk-on RB Ky Woods has gone portaling.

Maybe Fritz offers Ky again???

Woods was ranked as a three star prospect out of League City’s Clear Springs High School. Even with offers from Air Force, Dartmouth, and Tulane, Woods walked on at Texas to be a Longhorn with the 2022 season being his first at UT.

Gerry/Vogel comments on recruiting (from a couple of streams over the last two days):

- Three silent commits; one may go public soon, others 2 - 3 weeks

- Bill Norton great visit (sounds like he's the silent?); (in another stream, he said he would be very surprised if Norton didn't join Texas;  was referring to "when Texas will announce ...")

- Jay Toia really really good visit;  his bro was offered, too

- Domanic Williams coming in Tue/Wed, from OU visit

- If Texas lands Norton and Toia, we are a Domanic Williams away from "really shoring up the d-line"

- If Swanson leaves, we're evidently 1 under the limit

- Kelshaun Johnson great visit as well (came with Mom, family members); favorite; great Sark meeting

- Riley Pettijohn - great spot (similar to the above)

- James Simon - good visit

- John Turntine ('26 5*) - best upside soph prospect in Texas; Texas in a good spot;  sis transferring to Texas

- Nick Brooks (OT from Iowa) - GA #1, Texas moved up to #2; left with wide eyes;  will see if GA locks him down, else Texas visit in June

- Jaime Ffrench, see if GA closes out, else visiting USC ...

Also, really liked Savea's play

On a separate note, saw this on the Ohio State site (from April 11), re: Lockett.  May be a function of their chances with ph-ph-ph.

I guess the weekend was a disaster. I see no "really rolled out the red carpet," "blown away," or "hit it out of the park."

Evidently, we didn't even give anyone something to thing about.

Honestly, that's awesome. Dude has been a stand-out in the 2023 and 2024 spring games. If he can get an FBS scholarship, then that says a lot about the health of our program.

Was he the guy that was ivy league and academy worthy?

Nevermind... saw the blurb above that George Costanza couldn't see.

No shit. Then Texas boosters go back to playing by the rules and all the other fuckheads start cheating again.

why would you bemoan when we now have a competitive advantage?

KPW's probably a regular r/CFB reader on Reddit, where NIL is a sign of the end times, has made CFB less fun, and will lead to the death of all sport.

buncha pansies there
